The Blue Lagoon (Blå Lagunen) is a charming artificial lake on the island of Munsön in Ekerö Municipality whose clear turquoise waters are the reason for its tropical-sounding name. The lake was formerly a quarry but has since been filled with water and transformed into a popular bathing spot. A narrow ridge runs between the pit and Lake Mälaren and there is a larger sand dune towards the north.
Due to unsustainable traffic congestion, parking is periodically banned at the Blue Lagoon so be sure to check out current restrictions before clambering into your rental car. When parking is banned, it is naturally still okay to head down by foot or bike and enjoy all that the lake has to offer.
