Del Mar City Beach features soft, white sands, superb swimming and sunbathing, surfing, and access to both Powerhouse and Seagrove Parks. The area of beach along the coast between The River Mouth and 15th Street is considered by many to be one of the best beaches in San Diego because of the protected swimming area and gentle waves for beginner to intermediate surfers.

To the south of this, you'll find picturesque bluffs, a sand volleyball court, and a bike and jogging path. Many visitors stay later in the day to relax and enjoy the magnificent sunset views.

Highlights of Del Mar City Beach

Just north of Del Mar City Beach, you'll find Del Mar North Beach, also known as Dog Beach, a popular spot for locals and tourists to allow their 4-legged friends a place to wander and play in the waves.

Powerhouse Park is located at the south end and is the perfect spot to picnic or grab some food from a restaurant or snack cart. Found a little farther south, South Beach showcases colourful bluffs. South of 15th Street along the bluffs, there is a long dirt path great for jogging and biking.

Good to know about Del Mar City Beach

Del Mar City Beach parking does fill up fast, so be sure to arrive early or utilise public transport to avoid a long walk. If you're enjoying the beach with kids, the best place is near 17th Street by the main lifeguard tower.

You can walk south to Torrey Pines State Reserve, which features miles of trails following the coast. You may even spy a dolphin splashing in the waves or a bobcat wandering the forested areas. If you're looking for more hiking in the area, you may also enjoy a stop at Carmel Mountain Preserve, PQ Falls Trail, or Manchester Preserve Hiking Trails.
