This was our 3rd stay at Surfer Beach Hotel in the last five (5) years. While the closeness to the beach is awesome as well as the ocean views from the balconies, this time I was disappointed. The World's Famous Restaurant which is a part of the Hotel's Property, has significantly increased their outdoor patio area, where they sit larger parties. Because of this, our room (214) felt like it was right over that area, so it was hard to really enjoy sitting on the balcony in the evening because of the noise from the diners. The swimming pool patio area, though separated by a fence, was right up against that area, also.
As far as the room goes, however, other than the very tiny shower, was comfortable. We ate at the World Famous Restaurant our first night there and breakfast the next two mornings. The food and service was excellent. Prices a little above average, but because the food was so good, it didn't really matter.
All in all my husband and I enjoyed celebrating our 48th wedding anniversary along the beach area and staying at the Surfer Beach Hotel.
Access from the hotel to various San Diego attractions was fairly easy. The little shops and small outdoor eating areas along Pacific Beach were really nice and fully accessible from Surfer Beach Hotel.
