Before I begin, this wasn’t a bad hotel but it definitely does not project the 4* rating it holds.
The two biggest factors that we loved was the central location (5*) and good air-conditioning (5*) - especially in 40 degrees heat.
The hotel is down a side street from All’Antico Vinaio but not the best signage. Our stay included breakfast which was basic, but enjoyable - especially the “fill your own croissants” station.
The rooms were also pretty basic with not much storage space, but the refurb does look good. The room could have been better equipped as our safe didn’t work, our suitcases didn’t fit in the wardrobe and the bathroom was always soaking as the floor seemed to slope towards the door. However, they did replace the towels more often than they said, so slight “win”.
We were told that the tourist tax had to be paid by cash (which is very odd) and was 7€ per person per night (98€ for a 7 night stay for 2 of us) - very steep for this accommodation.
Staff were friendly enough and the lady who works at the desk at night always wished us a good evening with a smile. One big criticism would be that a gentleman (who I presume is the owner) didn’t ask us once about our stay or make sure our “small issue” was fixed to our satisfaction.
I can say we overall enjoyed our stay at the Aurum Uffizi but after exploring Florence and now knowing what else is available for a similar price, we would pay the small difference for an all round better experience next time.
