Reservation Canceled Despite Advance Notice
I made my hotel reservation months in advance for a four-night stay to attend a concert in Virginia Beach. Although my travel plans later changed and I needed to arrive Friday instead of Thursday, I kept the original four-night reservation after consulting Hotels.com because it was less expensive than canceling and rebooking.
Through the Hotels.com app, I notified the hotel in advance that I would be checking in on Friday, not Thursday. On the day of travel (Friday), I even called the hotel to confirm a late check-in due to my flight arriving around midnight. That’s when I was informed that my entire reservation had been canceled due to a no-show, and the hotel had no remaining rooms. Despite my clear communication, I was left stranded in a fully booked city during a major event.
I had to spend hours scrambling to find a replacement hotel — eventually booking one 35 minutes away in an unsafe location, which ruined the entire experience. I later moved to a hotel closer to the venue, but it was still 20 blocks away from my original hotel, which had been just one block from the venue.
Hotels.com declined to assist in any way. This was one of the worst travel experiences I’ve ever had, and it could have been completely avoided if the hotel had honored the reservation I paid for and communicated about. I am extremely disappointed in both the hotel and Hotels.com for their failure to uphold a confirmed booking with proper notice.
