Property could have been cleaner especially the kitchen floor. Musty smell throughout our visit. Great location, made it worth it.

I don’t remember seeing anything about having to park a distance from the lodge and therefore having to carry luggage in the rain up a hill. Also I had presumed electric was included but we had to put £1 coins in the meter. All the cutlery, some of the plates and pans were dirty

I read some not so good reviews about the lodge so was a bit nervous. I can now say with absolute certainty that I will go back yearly or more if I can! The comments about the smell were totally off base/exaggerated. It is a lodge in the woods, surrounded by water in Scotland! It's going to rain! There was a dehumidifier running when I arrived plus I opened a window to circulate the air for about 15 - 20 minutes while I unloaded the car so had no issues with damp or a musty smell. Lisa met me in the car park and showed me where everything was and how they worked. She is an absolute gem of a person. Yes it's true that you can't park outside of the lodge and have to carry your things up the small hill, so if you have mobility issues, this lodge might not be for you but they do have ones closer to the car park with no hill to walk up. If you are expecting 5 star, white glove accommodation at this price, you've got unrealistic expectations! If you want a cozy, comfortable lodge in a beautiful setting, this is for you.

I don’t normally leave reviews however, as I struggled to find reviews for these cottages, I hope my account will be useful for others to make more informed choices. We stayed in Birch. The cottage is in beautiful setting in the woods. It is specious and well equipped with kitchen utensils. There is good WiFi. The cottages are scattered upwards on the hill, it would have been useful to have a map of these, some are closer to the car park than the others, which may be important consideration. Ours was at the top. There is a pre-paid electricity meter. We used up the credit the first night and so effectively had to pay for electricity for the rest of our stay. This was not made clear at the stage of booking. The cottage was not perfectly clean, eg there were cobwebs in the bathroom and grease on the cooker. The wood in the cottage was also sticky at times, however, this may be because of the old varnish. Hot water is supplied in various ways and there wasn’t any supply for the bathroom sink which only had cold water. The cottage had a strong smell, which I now think might be dump. This soaked into our skin and hair and in everything we had with us. Saying all this, the above seems to be reflected in the price, I just wish we would have known more to be able to make a more informed choice.
