Brown Hotel

I have to give this place a bad review. I stayed two nights, and after the first night, the staff came in to tidy my room while I was away. I had left some snacks I had purchased from the grocery store lying around unopened. But when I returned, one of the snack packages had been sliced open. There was massive surgery that had been done on that snack package. No, I didn't buy the package like that from the store (the snacks would have all fallen out on the way to the hotel). No, I didn't open it myself (I had intentionally bought more than one of that type of snack so that I would have some saved for later). And no, this is not a situation where you accidentally touch something and it breaks -- I'm talking about major surgery on the packaging. On one level, this is trivial (it was an inexpensive snack). But on another level, this represents a violation (however small) of the fundamental basis of the relationship between hotel staff and guests. As guests, we are at somewhat of a disadvantage staying in your place, but you make us feel welcome, as if the disadvantage might not be there. Could I have locked up my snack? Sure, but I do I really have to lock up a cheap snack? And why should I feel like I was taken advantage of because of such a cheap snack? Why not? After all, I did pay money for the snack, and that snack was unmistakably violated.

Overall the hotel is pretty much as described on the website. The hotel is much more like a love hotel than we were expecting, but we were ready for something a bit out of our comfort zone with our last minute booking due to other accommodation cancelling on us. Not really suitable for families/children (we were once awoken by our neighbours having much more fun than we were at the time, and we were provided condoms in our hotel gift bag on check in), but suitably acceptable cheap accommodation for a couple/solo just looking for a good base. The room was great, spacious and with all mod cons (fan and air conditioning), and the hotel even provided cold water bottles at reception to take for free whenever you wanted. The only problem worth mentioning was, although you have 2 doors between you and the hallway in your room, you can still hear people walking/talking and closing doors to other rooms which did wake us up once or twice. Can't hear anything through the walls though so no worries there!
