Pension Residenz

First impressions are 'what a dump' and it doesn't get any better. The lift isn't much bigger than a dumb waiter and has to serve 5 floors! Old woodwork everywhere as crying out for a lick of paint. Reception is a little serving hatch on the second floor. The breakfast is presented in a shoe box of a room and doubles as an exit corridor for rooms on the mezzanine level which means doors opening all the time. The person serving breakfast keeps the buffet topped up from an adjoining room with an open door so you can watch the dishwasher wash the dishes. The only hot food was boiled eggs which went cold very quickly. Coffee was also lukewarm. Bedroom furniture all looked like it had come from a charity shop. Pillows, mattresses and duvets all looked dodgy. The only good thing about this place is its location.

Great location, lovely old fashioned decor. Bed ok, could definitely improved, and I would have appreciated a double bed option. very very poor breakfast, not even the basics.. so disappointing actually. Being in a city with such a strong coffee culture, being offered hot water and Nescafe on the side felt totally wrong.. despite it was included in the stay we had breakfast there only first day, then went for a better one in one of the cafes around. Shame.

Super friendly and helpful staff. Breakfast is nice. Hotel is spread around various rooms in the building so it can be a little confusing, rooms and decor are a little old, great if you want to get into the atmosphere of the historic city center. Warning: the shower temperature varies widely very quickly, so you could get a cold shock, or worse, burned.

Charming old building, kept very nice and clean. Very friendly staff. Nice breakfast. Great location, near a busy tram & subway stop, so one could go anywhere in town.
