Overall we were pleased about the place but couple of issues was not up to our satisfaction. The postcode which sent it to us on our booking took us nearby village! Not exactly to place. The room we requested at booking was double bed but when we arrived to room there was one double and one single bed! And there was no much space left at the room! The room was smelling humidity heavily and the central heating was not working. Luckily we got small radiator from very helpful In-charge lady. Another surprising thing was on sunday morning we woke up with fire alarm which was strongly sounding at whole mansion around 8.30am! So we ran out the building with all other guests and stayed for 10mins. It wasn`t really pleasant to wake up on sunday morning. By the way, the mansion is perfect location for quiet, peaceful weekend. Outdoor jacuzzi at garden and walking distance forest make more attractive also. The food served at breakfast was quiet tasty and many options. We recommend to everyone.

(takes 1.20 £) , otherwise with taxi 6 or 7 £ far away. great breakfast, you get exactly what you expect from an english breakfast..

Do not think it is far a way from the city central, it's just a 10 min bus ride and the last stop is just 100 meters from the hotel. Plus, there is a 24-hour-open supermarket that you can find everything you wish just very near the hotel. Everything was wonderful there, and I will definitely stay there again if I visit Edinburgh for the second time.

We stayed at the Thistle Hotel from 03/03/12 to 05/03/12. The hotel itself is a beautiful Georgian building in the West End of Edinburgh's New Town. It's only a few minutes walk from Haymarket Station so I would recommend that you use this station if travelling by train. The room was large & spacious with a generous sized bed and small bathroom but […] the lack of bath was no problem as we would not have used it. There was also a large flat screen tv. Continental breakfast was included in our room rate and was also very generous. There is a choice of juices, tea or coffee, choice of cereals, toast, pain au chocolate, fresh fruit, yogurts and warm croissants! The staff were all very friendly & helpful and when we checked out they kindly offered to have our bags while we finished off our visit. Edinburgh is a beautiful city which we really enjoyed visiting. Whether you want to go sightseeing or shop there is something for everyone. I would recommend this hotel to everyone as it is well placed for everything Edinburgh has to offer and has the added bonus of the character of the building as well as being in a quiet street which ensures a good night sleep! Wonderfully located for transport, site seeing and restaurants, this hotel comes highly recommended for those fed up with bland chain hotels and want comfort and a warm family feel. Service is friendly, personal, prompt and everything is provided with a smile. I would definitely return and recommend it highly to others. The only thing I should warn […] you about are the stairs! A very nice Georgian building, but with a huge central staircase to match which can be tiring if you're on the top floor as there's no lift. The steps are shallow though and shouldn't cause too much of an issue. I should also mention that they went above and beyond in opening the kitchens early on a Sunday after my friend and I had finished a 26 mile Moonwalk and were in need of a full cooked breakfast. This isn't part of the large chain of Thistle hotels, it is a small hotel in the west end of Edinburgh. It is a fair walk (took us 40mins with luggage) from the city centre but buses run very close by and you can get the train from Waverley to Haymarket if you wish. It was extremely quiet whillst we were there and would be my preference to the buzz […] of the city centre any time. The room was clean and the staff were really friendly, helpful and polite. They went out of their way to help us sort out the buses, as the usual routes were altered due to mains work in the city centre. A continental breakfast was included in the price of the room and it was substantial with pastries, toast, fruit salad, cereal and yoghurt to pick from. The real plus for us about this hotel was the location. It was in the west end village (imposing Georgian architecture) which has great pubs and a restaurant we were so impressed with we went twice! (A Room in the West end in the basement of Teuchters Pub) The only slight negative for me was that some of the furniture was a little tatty. It is worth noting that there are 4 floors (ground floor plus 3) to the hotel and no lift, so you need to be fit enough to walk the stairs or mention on booking if you can't manage more than a few stairs.
