We enjoyed our three-night stay very much. The staff and the owner were very friendly and helpful and and the breakfasts were good. The lodge was clean and comfortable in a beautiful setting on the edge of the forest. We were able to see a variety of birds and hear the howler monkeys. The staff was very accommodating and we had a nice breakfast. The room was rather small and very plain. There was no TV or phone service in the room. The shower had a tile floor which was slippery and no grab bar. The roads coming and going were extremely rough.

This is a very quiet and peaceful setting not too far from the conveniences of Santa Elena. Nothing real fancy but a solid value with a nice breakfast and friendly staff. DeLucia's restaurant less than 5 minutes away had outstanding food at very descent price.

Staff was very helpful and assisted with tours, where to eat, taxi ($4 to downtown area), and just being friendly was so nice. breakfast was amazing each day and choices of hot or cold! We fully enjoyed our stay here. The staff and owners were excellent, the breakfast was perfect and the room was very comfortable. We stayed 2 nights in September 2012. Everyone was so friendly and helpful, even providing us with a flashlight and directions to the many near buy restaurants. The view was beautiful from the porch. We really enjoyed our stay. The room was clean and the breakfast was great. We were able to enjoy wildlife without leaving the lodge. There was a nice garden and short walking trails. We got to see white faced monkeys and a quetzal right there!

The lodge is great, only con is that the staff is only available until 8pm. This is not necessaarily a problem unless you plan on late activities.

First of all, the hotel is very comfortable, with nice soft beds and rooms with a fantastic view of the cloud forest. Breakfast is yummy and filling, and the common area is a good place to unwind, read, play games, or talk with other travelers. The hotel was really good about setting up excursions. My one issue is that the room had a lot of windows […] and doors, which could get pretty chilly, and that every night the wind howled and I thought the windows would blow out! This lodge is ok for a short stay and a visit to Monteverde Cloud Forest. Its a good walk out of Santa Elena town and a little difficult to find. Its set in its own grounds at the top of a hill and when we were there it was very windy, which was quite noisy through the night.

The hotel is on the "rustic" side of things. The overall feel and colour-scheme was like visiting my parent's 1970s rec room. However, the rooms were clean and comfortable. We were very pleased with our stay at the Cala Lodge! We were upgraded to a suite on arrival at no additional cost and found the room quite comfortalble. The main lodge and the rooms have great views of the surrounding park, and we were able to spot several birds and some other wildlife roaming around nearby. Cala lodge is a nice hotel. The staff is very friendly and the rooms are nice. The rooms look somewhat like apartment complexes from the outside and aren't too small, and the bathroom shower is large. If given the chance I would stay here again. (:

For the money this was a great place to stay. Charming room with a great view of the forest, some people might consider it too small. . . but again it is great for the price.. . . pay more and get a bigger room. I really enjoyed my stay at Cala Lodge, its a wonderful getaway if you are looking for a quiet place to read and take in the beautiful surroundings. Rooms are on the small side but have very high ceilings to give it that open feeling. There is no TV or phone in the room, there is an alarm clock and a safe. They provide basic amenities: clean bathroom […] and bottles of shampoo/conditioner/lotion, comfortable beds and linens, and free wifi. On a side note, the hotel is located a bit off from town, so you will need to get a taxi for the trip to and from which costs around $3/trip. This is a small family run place, the owners and staff are all very accommodating to book you tours or transportation and all speak very good English. If you are looking for a getaway from hectic city life to relax and take in nature this is the place for you! Devamı

I love this lodge! Me and my friend stayed in Monteverde for 2 days and we stayed here for a night, which was a great choice. The lodge is a little off from the town center and it's located right next to a forest. Driving to Moneteverde is about 15 minutes from the hotel so it was not bad at all. I really like the individual balcony attached to the […] upstair rooms so take advantage and ask for a room upstairs if available. The staffs here were very friendly. The owner's wife gave me a map of the interesting things to place and places to go. She even offered to make phone calls for anything that I like to reserve. The hotel room smelled very musty. No Shampoo - just conditioner and body lotion? Almost stepped on a scorpion that was wondering around in the middle of the night our first night.... Other than that it was a good location and quiet. It was a place to stay but if I ever end up back in this town again I will stay elsewhere.

This place is great! It is off the beaten track and surrounded by the forest. There is a trail with lots of flora and fauna. The hospitality is great with delicious breakfasts and friendly owners. DEFINITELY WORTH THE STAY!

The Cala Lodge is not the easiest place to get to but it is worth the trip. Staying in the Smithsonian room we had a spectacular view of the volcano and surrounding forrest. This was a wonderful place to stay. The restaraunt was okay. Nothing spectacular but a decent offering of traditional and western foods.

The staff here was very helpful and bent over backwards to help us find the answers we needed. The hotel was itself was well kept and in a beautiful location, although it was kind of out of the way from everything. The room we stayed in was very tidy but very minimalistic- a bed, a bathroom, a desk and a bookshelf, and that's about it. I loved my stay at Cala Lodge, it was peacefull and i was one with nature. I saw monkeys, toucans, hummingbirds amongst many other without leaving my lodge. :) a great location with a great view over the cloud forest. Clean and ice room. A truly recomend it!

The location is beautiful if you are looking for a quiet, out-of-the-way, location with the forest right next door. We had a car, so were able to drive to the places we wanted to go. But we did walk to town once (better downhill than uphill), and taxis are very affordable. For those who like outdoorsy lifestyle: This is probably the best place to stay in the MonteVerde area, definitely excellent quality to price ratio. Very nice recently built. We stayed there for 2 nights while traveling in CR by car, on the way from Arenal (about 3 h. by car) to Samara beaches. Cala Lodge is beautiful. Amenities are great (though the wifi is a little spotty in the rooms) and the setting is fantastic. The hotel is extremely hard to find & after finding it we had to go down a rocky dirt road. The hotel appeared to be fairly new, but not built well at all with gaps through the doors where you could see day light. The shower had a trickle of water, but no hot water. At night, the walls seemed to be nothing but a plastic sheet separating the two rooms […] as you could hear every word as well as their bed squeaking.
