We loved this place! The staff was great, the food was wonderful and the location was ideal. We had to lug our bags to the third floor by ourselves but it was worth the effort.

Picked Le Lion d'Or by chance for a three-night stay in Normandy, and we were not disappointed. The room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was traditional continental, with local breads and pastries that hit the spot. Staff was the best. The reception team not only were very friendly, but they set up our day-trips to Mont St. Michel and the D-Day […] beaches as well as recommending great places in town for meals and drinks (bar in the hotel was fine, but very quiet). What we did not know is that the LDO has been a local favorite of famous people for decades. The sitting room walls are covered with autographed pictures of everyone from Ike and Bernard Montgomery (1944) to John Wayne and John Ford (Longest Day) to Hanks and Spielberg to Catherine Deneuve and Lauren Bacall. If you are staying in Bayeux, this is a great choice. The Tapestry is a five-minute walk; D-Day tour guides (we used Utah Beach Evasions, which the hotel arranged -- very good) pick you up at the front door. Mont St. Michel is a bit of a haul. We did a half-day by cab, which was pricey but I thought it gave us enough time to see the castle. If we get back to Bayeux, this is where we will stay. Devamı

Excellent!! The location was perfect for proximity to the D-day beaches, and located in a quiet, picturesque little town. Plenty of good places to eat within walking distance of the hotel. Hotel staff spoke excellent English, and were very helpful with recommendations, directions, etc. The hotel is very clean and with great character. It is not at all […] like the boring modern day type hotel room; very warm and charming place. Parking was available. The wi-fi worked only in the reception area; for whatever reason it was not working in the rooms at the time we stayed there. Be prepared to carry your luggage up the stairs as there is no elevator. This is an excellent place to stay and really feel like you're getting a good glimpse of life in small town France. We did not eat at the hotel restaurant so I cannot comment on that. If you plan to leave early the next morning, make sure you settle the bill the night before. I would highly recommend this hotel, and plan to come back again. Devamı

The hotel is a hotel like no other. the staff is the best. The food was especially great also.

We loved our 3 night stay at Le Lion d'Or. Sophie was very helpful in meeting all our needs. Our room was very comfortable although we felt the mattresses were old and saggy. We had a room with a newly remodeled bathroom which was nice. The restuarant was very nice with a broad selection of entrees. Le Lion d'Or is a quaint little hotel located on a main thoroughfare in Bayeaux. Although it was not a problem for us, the hotel does not possess an elevator, so guests with a lot of luggage or painful knees might have difficulty getting to their rooms. A wide variety of restaurants and charming shops are within walking distance. Very conveniently located within walking distance of the historic sights and plenty of alternative eating establishments. Attractive building and furnishings in quiet location. Parking avalable on-site but relatively expensive

It may have once hosted Eisenhower but that was a loooong time ago, and the hotel hasn't aged well. Our room was not much bigger than a large closet and the service was poor.

We did an overnight from Paris to Bayeux, in order to see the Tapestry and see Omaha Beach and the U.S. Military Cemetery. The Lion d'Or was the perfect place to stay. It was quiet, clean, and the staff were very helpful. In addition, it's in the downtown area but in a quiet courtyard--while we were there, a Medieval Festival was happening, which was […] fun to participate in, but also nice to leave the noise behind once we walked through the gate of the hotel's courtyard. Very Disappointing Hotel. Looks cute on the outside but the inside is very tired. The rooms look like they haven't been touched since the 1960's. The bathroom was especially bad. And, it was not very clean. There was dust caked on the top of the toilet and the hairdryer holder. Would never go back!

Advise to book parking as street costs money at certain times. Streets are narrow & tight

My husband and I stayed at the Lion D'Or for four nights. The hotel has a very 1940s feel--charming but slightly shabby. The room was comfortable, and had a very modern bathroom. Breakfast was a little pricey (13 euro per person per day), but convenient. The hotel is a 15 minute walk from the train station, and only a couple of blocks from the Bayeux […] Tapestry, the Cathedral, and Place du Quebec, the meeting point for tours to the D-Day sites. There are many restaurants and cafes in the area, and a market just down the street. The hotel staff was pleasant and professional. There is no elevator, so beware if that poses a problem for you. All good except stairs are tough for elderly.

This was a great hotel for seeing Normandy and particularly D-day beaches and the bayeux tapestry. There was parking and the rooms were very nice. The support staff was friendly but English was a bit of an issue. Restaurant was incredible. Definitely would eat at least one night in the restaurant-it was the best food in the town.

This is a very quaint, lovely hotel. The staff we exceedingly friendly, and the atmosphere of the hotel is both grand and comfortable. The restaurant was the best food I had in all of France, with no exaggeration. Absolutely fantastic food, and attentive staff, waiters, and even the chef came out with surprise appetizers between courses and that sort […] of thing. The lounge/bar area is a very cosy lounge with signed pictures of all the famous people who have stayed here, mostly from the 50s, and stocked with all kinds of local brandy and liquors they will let you sample. I can't say enough about how fantastic this hotel is. The room was very clean, if not huge, and the shower was heavenly which is always important when you are travelling. Our stay at the LeLion d'Or was outstanding. The staff in this small hotel went out of their way to make us feel welcomed. It is within walking distance of the train station, and right in the middle of Bayeux! I would stay here again in a minute! The restaurant was also great and the service was the best.

We were only able to stay one night. Recommend stayinglonger here. Great area to relax. Hotel staff was wonderful! Beautiful town and friendly people! No lift, but staff was helpful with luggage to our room. What great history here. We will definitely stay here again.

In addition to being historic and having artifacts from WW II displayed, this hotel had charm and was in a perfect location. It was quiet, the room was HUGE by European standards, and the desk staff were very helpful. The room was very quiet (although the walls are thin, like old buildings everywhere). No elevator ... bad knees? ask for a low floor. […] My sister struggled with the stairs. The lobby was large and comfortable. WiFi was great; a couple times I had to go to the lobby to get a strong signal, but old buildings don't allow for easy Wifi transmission - no big deal. We got a fabulous deal on hotels.com that was much below the posted rates. We had heard that this was a good hotel, but it turned out to be nothing less then a GREAT hotel! It's located in an awesome area, has had some very impressive guests over the years, and is a perfect place from which to visit the Normandy beaches. Friendly , knowledgeable, English speaking staff who went beyond their job description to ensure we got we most out of our stay in Normandy. This hotel is located in the center of town only a block from the famous tapestry and easy walking distance to the rail station . Tours of the D Day landing beaches and other Normandy attractions The hotel restaurant […] is excellent and charming. We enjoyed wandering around the immediate neighborhood of the hotel by both day and night. This hotel is a refreshing change from the standard U.S. style inn found along all interstate highways . This hotel is in an excellect location in the town. The breakfast was good and served in a very cheerful room. I really liked the fresh yogart and homemade breads. The reception staff was very nice and gave us road information warnings, along with directions. It was very cold when we were in France and the rooms were warm and cozy.

What a charming, lovely place! My only regret was that we could only stay one night. We have already added this hotel to our list of "must stay here next time we visit" and will recommend to all our friends as well. Staff was extremely helpful with all aspects of our stay. The courtyard was a perfect place to sit and enjoy a coffee and croissant. Everything in town was within walking distance--cafes, patisseries, restaurants, the Bayeux Tapestry, the Cathedral. In the center of Bayeux with a very friendly staff. Restaurant was very nice but a bit pricey. I liked it enough to recommend it to my friends.

Probably as nice as any hotel in Bayeux. Very close - 3 minute walk to the meeting place for many of the D-Day tours of the American sector. Nothing too fancy and older, but good for the area.

The staff were friendly and helpful. Some areas of the hotel are ready for refurbishment but the hotel was clean and full of character. The standard double room allocated through this website was (according to floor plan) the smallest and although large enough for our needs of a two night stay, more space would be preferable if staying for a longer […] period and wanting to relax more in room. The breakfast offered an extensive continental choice but if you prefer bacon, eggs (other than boiled) and sausages then you may be disappointed. The varied selection kept us going all day and included what I imagine are some regional sweet dishes. The hotel is very convenient for quality restaurants in the area, and we dined very happily in La Fringale Restaurant 1 minute's walk away from hotel. Devamı

Charming hotel, located in a beautiful and historic old town

Great location with a very nice French feel. Wished we could have stayed longer.

Petit hôtel bien tenu et paisible. Le stationnement est un peu difficile parce que petit. Vous devez réserver votre stationnement directement avec l'hôtel parce que vous n'en n'aurez pas.
