Mercure Stafford South Hatherton House Hotel - Stafford

Very friendly staff and lovely clean room, pool was great for taking our baby in as it was warm and steam room and changing rooms were clean and well maintained. Great price and ideal location just off the motorway.

I stayed for 3 nights as I was working in the area. I was pleased with my room. Free WiFi was good news. They had parking spaces near the entrance that were reserved for female guests. I arrived very late and was met by the night porter.The first thing i noticed was the lobby smelt really bad of stale air.The room was Ok, but I had two beds pushed together instead of a double I booked. The corridors lacked any air flow so the same stale air lingered through the whole hotel. My room was freezing on the first night as the heating was […] not on, but came on in the second night. Prior to going I began to feel a bit worried after reading other reviews left, but I wish I hadn't the hotel was perfect. We were using this hotel to take the family to Alton Towers for the day and I couldn't believe how cheap it was £900 less than Towers Resort hotel!, I had booked 3 rooms, and we used Tesco vouchers for the park. The staff were very […] very pleasant and so helpful, from getting RAC map to the park to a small jug of fresh milk for my room. We ate in the first nite and throughly enjoyed the meal, and service. The rooms I think were the cleanist I have stayed in they were spotless and what a fab size I would definately use again and recommend to anyone, this was the same price as staying at the days inn and much much nicer. The only drawback was it is not 20 miles from Alton Towers more like double that but we had given ourselves extra travel time so it didn't really matter. Work to upgrade rooms was going on when we arrived so they know there are areas to improve, which showed in a corner our room by the window where the wallpaper was starting to show mould. Rear facing so view onto a back yard. However, we were only staying one night and if more than that the view to the front is lovely and I would have insisted on a […] move. Reception staff were fab - provided an iron and ironing board within minutes, info on how to get wi-fi for our son and codes to get us into the health spa/gym. The staff in the gym were just as friendly and helpful and the facilities - apart from the pool which was small, were good. The room was comfortable and acceptable for a 3* hotel. On the last night of my stay, the sports centre near the back fields were having a party and I could not get to bed until 1am as the noise was intolerable! Many people complained about this. I also found out on check out morning that someone had charged drinks to MY room! Overall, wasnt really […] that impressed, and most of the machines in the gym were out of order. very basic rooms with gloomy decor from the 80's. Can't complain too much because you get what you pay for and the rate was cheap, but I would prefer to pay a little more and stay in nearby hotels that offer a more cheerful environment.

Not an unpleasent hotel just a little bit tired and in need of some TLC and a bit of money spent on it. Excellent value at the rate i got from Hotel.com but wont rush back.

cold reception and check in, training staff to smile should be scheduled in managers diary, stairs up to the room were dirty, no help with baggage was offered, room was little cleaner than stairs but no fewer than 4 moths were visible immediately, and the odd one or two would fly about till almost all of them had been beaten to death by the off-white […] (supposed to be white) towel from the bathroom. The Hotel is very competitivly priced, the location was ideal for what I was looking for. The food in the Resturant waswell prepared and well presented again at a reasonable price. The room was ok, I couldnt get comfy in the bed that sqeeked hen you moved and there was a hole in the in the bottom sheet.this seemed to just add to the overall package […] that needed a little refurbishment and improving. All of the things are minor, my only real issues was the banging of doors which was excessive and the noise made by fellow guests in the corridors, I was happy to return home and get some sleep after the few days there, but for the money and more important for me the location it served a purpose. Would I stay there again? maybe I was just unlucky that some guests being a little noisy in the corridor at 3am stayed the nights I did, the door banging was as bad as it gets, but the staff were friendly in the main, but would I go back? maybe but I wouldnt rush back and look forward to returning to the hotel.
