Shi Jia House - Pekin

We have just returned from 3 weeks travelling around China and I feel compelled to write a review to say how FANTASTIC this hotel is! We stayed in a... standard double room for 2 nights at the end of our trip and chose it as we were looking for a courtyard style hotel with a bit of luxury and this fitted the bill exactly! The hotel has 8 rooms (i think!) and the service reflects this - v.personal, will do anything for you to make your stay in Beijing better and with good english. It Is just off one of the main streets only a 2 minute walk from the hotel to the subway - which means its easy to get around - although the location is pretty good in itself if you just want to walk to see things around the immediate area - even the forbidden city is within walking distance.As it is on it's own street and not the main road the hotel inside and within the courtyard area is very quiet - just what you need to get away from the hustle and bustle of this city. We had a standard room with the most comfortable bed of all the hotels we stayed in!! The room was big with a large LCD TV, good quality furniture and really nice lighting. The bathroom was also a really good size with a powerful shower. At the time we were visiting, Beijing was experiencing it's 1st cold spell of the autumn - the room was really toasty with heating that could be individually controlled room to room and lovely after a long day's sighseeing. The hotel also has free wi-fi which came in handy when checking our return flight. We opted to take breakfast one morning - which is taken as a buffet breakfast in the hotel opposite. It was expensive by Chinese standards but the selection and service was fantastic - both chinese style breakfast and western - and we eat so much that we managed a full day of sighseeing without having to stop for food until 8pm in the evening.
