Kirkhill Mansion - Gorebridge

My fiance and myself stayed for long weekend. Overall we were pleased about the place but couple of issues was not up to our satisfaction. The postcode which sent it to us on our booking took us nearby village! Not exactly to place. The room we requested at booking was double bed but when we arrived to room there was one double and one single bed! […] And there was no much space left at the room! The room was smelling humidity heavily and the central heating was not working. Luckily we got small radiator from very helpful In-charge lady. Another surprising thing was on sunday morning we woke up with fire alarm which was strongly sounding at whole mansion around 8.30am! So we ran out the building with all other guests and stayed for 10mins. It wasn`t really pleasant to wake up on sunday morning. By the way, the mansion is perfect location for quiet, peaceful weekend. Outdoor jacuzzi at garden and walking distance forest make more attractive also. The food served at breakfast was quiet tasty and many options. We recommend to everyone. Devamı

we stayued at this hotel to celbrate our 29th weddung anniversary its a romantic location compared to staying at a ordinary bed and breakfast recently stayed hotel very clean, staff very helpfull views around location stunning, when we had a problem staff sorted it out straught away only problem was drive down to hotel was a bit rough but managed ideal […] location for visiting edinburgh and plenty of stunning castles and big house to visit . would definately return. The hotel itself isn't in as good a condition as you would expect it to be. all of the public rooms need a lot of work to improve presentation and cleanliness. The room we had looked nothing like the photos on the website. There was promise of a spa bath in the description, which made it sound like it was part of the en-suite bathroom. in actual fact […] it was a hot tub outside at the rear of the hotel and it had been closed down for the winter. Other facilities in the room were lacking too - we had only one chair that we had to take turns on and a lot of electrical cables were coiled around a television with the kettle plugged in right next to it! oh - and there was a hole in the floorboards, under the carpet. the general feeling we got from our room was all very depressing; three of the four walls had a dark grey door on it (room door, bathroom and a cupboard), only one light bulb out of three was working and the door handle kept coming off in your hand whilst trying to pull the (grey) bathroom door closed. There were some plus points, however. The view out of the rear of the hotel was rather nice - sprawling coutryside - and we'd been there no more than five minutes when we witnessed a couple of deer just wandering along and the breakfasts were very nicely cooked, though the prices did change three times for the same meal... Without a car you are faced with good walk to the main road to catch a bus. while we were there, a lot of work was going on up on the main road and i'm appalled to say that some drains were overflowing into the road and all along the route we had to walk, was the smell and evidence of raw human sewage floating along the gutter. not a fault of the hotel at all, but is worth mentioning here. overall, then, i would definitely NOT recomend this place. Surrounded by lots of trees this Mansion offers a peaceful respite. The best way to describe it would be "shabby chic" maybe as the Mansion is old but has lots of character. The staff were very friendly and polite. Breakfast was in the fabulous Grand Hall/Dining Room and was very tasty. Our room was downstairs with no outlook but as we were only needing […] a bed for a few nights it didn't bother us. Amusing to see all the "pods" set in the surrounding garden. Don't know what they would be like to stay in as they look very small. The Mansion was easy to find and was very handy for Straiton & Sherffhall Park & Ride. Enjoyed our stay and would go back. Don't get there too late, doors will be locked!!!! And the people in the huts will get you....... :o!!!!! Overall a very enjoyable stay, the bed was massive and very comfortable and a big tv in room, big bathroom with a bath! Breakfast was really nice, the inside of the mansion is so lovely!!!! and the views from the windows are amazing, in the middle […] of no where! We arrived around 11 pm. Although we had just spoken with the owners 10 minutes before to ask directions once again (there is only 1 sign at the head of a dirt road leading to the house), there was no one there to greet us when we arrived. We were not the only people just arriving. No one could rouse any help. There was a phone number on the door, but […] our cell phones did not work in that location, and, when we tried to use the house phone, it was the same number we were trying to call. There was a sign that said to go to a certain room if there was a problem, but the room was empty. None of the other guests had any idea how to reach anyone. Finally our cell went through, and a woman came up from the floor below. The room we stayed in hard large brown stains on the carpet and paint falling off the ceiling in the bathroom. I wouldn't let my own home deteriorate like that. The breakfast was good and the other guests were fun to talk with, but they too had stories about getting lost en route, inability to reach anyone to help and dirty rooms. It was our only unpleasant experience on our 11 days trip to Scotland. Devamı

This place was a little more rustic than I was expecting, but I actually liked the less formal style of the house and grounds. Being a former mansion converted to a guest house, not all rooms are the same- our room was enormous, even by American standards, and the bathroom larger than most bedrooms I've seen in UK homes (however there was no shower, […] just a tub), but our friends' room was nothing like ours. Still, it was a really nice place to stay if you want peace and quiet and don't mind a short drive to and from the city. Devamı

Get good directions and be happy that you are staying in castle country, and you will love this B&B! The trip into Edinburgh for site-seeing was easy, and then we started looking around our neighborhood. The owner of the Mansion, Dave, is a medieval scholar, so when I asked where to go to look at castles in Scotland, he showed me 4 within a few miles […] of our doorstep! We had an enchanting time wandering through the winding country roads and coming upon these amazing structures right there in front of us. We also took in Rosslyn Chapel that is more famous. The most important thing about this review is that the hosts really cared about a problem we had and immediately owned it and solved it and gave us a better room without our asking for it! Staff was uniformly gracious and caring and made our stay so pleasant. The dining room set-up is so very impressive, and the cooked to order breakfasts were delicious and well presented. The black pudding was new to us, and the potato scones were great. They even browned my bacon and sausage and scones when I asked without a funny look! This Mansion is a work in process, and will probably be improved even more by the time you stay there, but it is delightful now! Devamı

This hotel is great. The room was large, bed comfortable and it was very peaceful and quiet. It was a little tricky to find, but completely worth the trip.

The staff at Kirkhill Mansion went out of their way to make our stay a very special one! They were very accomodating to the needs of our schedule and went above and beyond to help schedule a special occasion dinner. We could not have asked for a better place to stay. Our experience was delightful!

A lovely and charming hotel set in beautiful gardens with lots of character. The lady running the hotel was very friendly and helpful, she made us feel very welcome with a coffee and a slice of home made apple pie on the evening we arrived. We also had a delicious breakfast the next morning. The room, including the well finished en-suite was immaculate, […] and very comfortable. Very charming building and friendly staff. Nice path down to the mansion from the main road. Easy distance from Edinburgh. Recommended!

The whole stay was great. We was made very welcome and would return again.

Was unsure if at the right location to begin with as very long drive way to get to the Kirkhill Mansion. Only stayed one night but very handy as had to travel early in the morning and didn't have to worry about driving through the city traffic. The rooms were very clean and there was plenty of room.

This was a converted 19th century mansion in beautiful countryside. The access was unlear and the approach lane narrow with heavy shading from the trees. The "Mansion" was delightful, with a suit of armour in the hallway. The rooms were clean and the en-suite huge. I would have no hesitation using the place again and reccommend it.

Upon driving up to Kirkhill mansion down a lond tree lined driveway, you feel like you are suddenly in the middle of the Scottish country side. Our welcome was very warm and we were immediately asked what (free) refreshements we would like. The outside of the house is beautiful and thouroughly deserving of the title "mansion" and the interior didn't […] disappoint either! Rooms are very clean and furnished in keeping with the feel of the house. Breakfast was served to all guests round one large grand table and this was lovely with everyone getting to know each other and chatting about what they would do that day. The breakfast was full scottish breakfast and the chef would cook to your requirements. There was also yohursts, pastries and cakes on the table and lots of juices and tea/coffee. The staff were very friendly and helpful and we would definately recommend this hotel to everyone. It is a drive or bus journey outside of edinburgh, but we were glad not to be staying in Edinburgh centre at night during the festival. We could enjoy the sights of Edinburgh until the evening and retreat to the countryside at night! Devamı

Our room and ensuite were large, comfortable and clean. Breakfast in the very gracious dining room was a very pleasant and memorable experience. The location is approx 18km from Edinburgh city but the 10min drive to the 'park and ride' bus station and the £3 (return) bus trip right into the city centre took away the big city hassles. That place was amazing! We had a really great time! First, it's quite hard to find and not well sign posted, it's at the end of a small lane in the middle of nowhere.. but the house itself is impressive, it's huge!!! The lounge looks like Harry Potter's with this massive table, the heigh ceilings, the chandeliers... the rooms are newly furnished, very […] comfi and clean, as well as the bathroom. Once you are in the house you feel like at home, it's more of a share house really. There is a pool table and a dart board and ... a jacuzzi ouside. there are massive green spaces all around the house, you can go for a walk by the river... Devamı

The lady running the hotel was very friendly, helpful and made a delicious breakfast! Excellent value for money. Lovely setting near enough to get into the city of Edinburgh for the day while retreating to the calm of the countryside in the evening. Staff are friendly and there is a very relaxed atmosphere. We stayed 3 nights and it became a 'home from home'.

the area where the hotel was ,was very quite well away from the main road the room was better than what we was expecting and had plenty of space in it service for breakfast was ok even though there was only one person doing it all

I travel a lot on business round the UK and I always try to avoid the chain hotels. What I want is somewhere peaceful and clean to unwind after a long journey or a day in an office. I was working in Dalkeith so the location was ideal - only 5 miles away. I was gobsmacked when I got there and wondered if I had the right place. Claudia showed me to my […] room and prepared a pot of coffee for me in the lounge. I couldn't believe my luck. Scottish Apartments pride themselves on offering space, privacy and freedom and that's exactly what you get. The level of service offered showed a level of professionalism, lightness of touch and lack of intrusion that is hard to find. If you want to wake up fully refreshed somewhere where there are rabbits, squirrels and the occasional deer on the lawn outside your window and to have a huge breakfast with views of the gardens, forests, valleys and mountains then stay here. I finished work early one afternoon and took my camera for a walk in the extensive grounds. It's simply stunning. There are plenty more walks nearby too. It's not far from Edinburgh and the smaller towns of Galashiels and Hawick. It's on the scenic part of the A7 from Carlisle to Edinburgh. It's peaceful, relaxing, clean and well maintained. All the staff are wonderful. If I was being really picky I could have done with a desk in my room but using the free fast broadband at the large dining table in an 18th century dining room more than made up for that. Manoir très sympathique, plutôt perdu dans la nature, en pleine clairière mais le calme y est garanti, et la proximité avec Edimbourg y est très très intéressante. Nous avions demandé une chambre avec sanitaires privés, en arrivant ce n'est pas ce que l'on nous proposait. Mais après avoir formulé notre déception, le propriétaire a tout mis en oeuvre […] pour nous satisfaire et nous avons obtenu carrément une suite avec une salle de bain complètement rénovée. Seul hic : il y avait une baignoire mais sans douchette et sans mitigeur... et au robinet pas de mitigeur non plus. Le style se voulait à l'ancienne. Dommage car ce n'est pas très pratique pour se laver les cheveux !!... Sinon tout était très bien. Devamı

Prisvärt B&B men lite svårt att hitta. Där skylten står tror man det är infart till ett hus. Rummen var helt OK och Frukosten likaså. Lantligt läge och man får definitivt vad man betalar för. Vi bodde på flera B&B i Skottland som kosta mer utan att ge mer. Stånke

Nous avons eu une première chambre au sous sol très humide qui sentait très fort la moisissure alors nous avons demandé une autre chambre et nous avons eu une chambre au rez de chaussez dont l'aspirateur n'avait pas été passé, c'était vraiment sale. Personalen mycket hjälpsamma. Ett problem är att man måste ha bil, eller orka gå för att ta sig till bussen. Men jag gillar att promenera o titta på naturen, så för mig funkade det bra.

We arrived at 21:30 by car (public transport is not an option to get there). We were welcomed warmly with apple pie and tea. Our room was in upper floor, view to front yard. Room had all we wanted, cosy. warm and nice bed. Breakfast was served dowstairs at very nice dinner room. Staff was very helpful and the breakfast itself plentiful. Be aware that […] only continental breakfast is included (atleast in our case was) but upgrading to English breakfast was only 6£ / person / day. Hotel's surroundings in general are very beautiful but there are some small projects (pods for outside sleepers) under construction around the hotel. They didn't annoy us. So the hotel was personal and cosy and the staff was really nice. Only negative aspects are the small pod projects at yard and one have to have a car or motorbike to get there. If you want to sleep at beautiful and personal hotel we strongly recommend this. Devamı

Il règne une étrange ambiance dans cet hôtel ; le site est magnifique mais le service loin d'être à la hauteur : nous sommes restés 2 nuits (les 17 et 18 août) et notre lit n'a pas été fait ni la chambre nettoyée entre les 2 ; il y a une baignoire sans douche dans la salle de bains, aucune chaise ni table dans la chambre (hormis celle soutenant la TV […] que nous n'avons pas réussi à faire marcher) ; la chambre était située au sous-sol avec vue sur un pan de mur tapissé de mousse ; le breakfast écossais est en supplément, les serveuses semblent peu motivées ; le chemin d'accès est en terre, rempli de "nids de poule" et pas du tout entretenu. L'impression générale est celle d'un manque de professionnalisme ; j'ai d'ailleurs signalé tout cela à la personne à qui j'ai rendu la clef de la chambre et qui m'a indiqué être "evening manager" ; je lui ai dit que cela était vraiment dommage compte tenu de la qualité du site et que je le regrettais d'autant plus à titre personnel sachant que j'adore l'Ecosse et les écossais ; il m'a semblé réceptif à mes remarques... Un accueil formidable, chambre tres spacieuse et confortable. Par contre, veuillez prevoir un surplus pour le scottish breakfast car le prix du petit dej est pour un petit dej a la francaise. Prevoyez bien l itineraire a l avance car c est pas facile a trouver et les gps ne trouve pas l endroit... Le SPA se trouve en plein air à l'extérieur et quand vous avez 16° au mois d'août, pas évident.

Praticamente irraggiungibile, soprattutto di notte. Nessuna indicazione aiuta e gli stessi abitanti del posto si mettono le mani nei capelli nel tentativo di dare qualche suggerimento utile. Stanza molto capiente, minimamente arredata, adatta per una famiglia. Ridotta capacità di parcheggio, ma siamo riusciti comunque a sistemarla, vista l'ampiezza […] della zona. Ottima ambientazione naturalistica, adatta per chi vuole passare un periodo lontano dal caos, particolarmente tranquilla. Gentile la signora alla reception, particolarmente disponibile per richieste di viaggiatori stanchi e bisognosi di riposo. Devamı

situation tres au calme a la campagne avec edimbourg qui est proche l'acces peu faire peur petit chemin en terre mais le resultat a l'arrivée est tres agreable tres belle demeure tres bonne accueil et tres bon petit dejeuner a recommander

The B & B is a nice and cosy place. Old furniture. Old building. The bed was okay and the bathroom was reasonable new. The paint on the walls was starting to fall off. But the staff, the beakfast and the surroundings was very good.

Hotellet bærer præg af slidtage, men det bliver klart opvejet af værtsparret, som er utrolig imødekomne. Vores værelse var ikke som vi havde ventet idet der var toilet på gangen, som det eneste værelse på hotellet. Vi havde bestilt et værelse med bad, og toilet, så vores utilfredshed var stor. En løsning blev dog fundet. Det var det hyggeligste sted […] i hele Skotland, ikke mindst pga. af værterne som vartede gæsterne op som var vi kongelige. Om eftermiddagen var der gratis kaffe og kage, det blev serveret i en stor hyggelig stue/lounge med piano pejs og fladskærms tv, og ikke mindst store dejlige bløde møbler med højt til loftet. Morgenmaden var supergod, og der var nok af den. Helt klart et sted vi vil bruge igen. Devamı

Die Lage ist sehr schön, jedoch werden wir beim nächsten Mal eine andere Unterkunft wählen. Der Preis für das Zimmer war zu hoch. Wir bekamen ein Zimmer in der Untergeschoss und mussten das WC + Dusche teilen. Das Zimmer bestand aus 6 Betten + Schrank + 1 Spiegel.

Maison de maitre incroyable dans un très beau cadre. La décoration est surprenante et l'endroit est totalement dépaysant. Les gens qui nous ont reçu étaient très gentils et attentifs à nos besoins. Je recommande fortement ce B&B !
