Best Western Premier Hotel Katajanokka - Helsinki

hotel is superb , little bit outside of downtown though. But there is a tram route passing through right cross of the hotel so it wont be problem for you. i think very classy and interesting hotel.

Very comfortable, close to city center, short trip on the tram or a 10-15 min walk. Calm environment. Good breakfast. Former jail which gave it a special athmosphere.

This former prison has been cleverly converted into a nice hotel, in a quiet part of Helsinki. It is easy to get to, right next to the number 4 tram stop. The reception was welcoming and friendly. The rooms are of a good size and the shower is excellent. The Jailbird Restaurant in the basement is also really nice. How often are you in a hotel that really sets itself apart by being something very... spectacularly different! Katajanokka hotel is unique; you are in an old jail that used to be in that use still few years ago. Everything looks and feels like a 1900 Century jail; the aisles, the doors, the cellar, you name it. And then you enter your cell (room) and […] it is very modern, stylish and comfortable. Wow! Stayed for two nights in October, 2011. Hotel is in the old town, great location and looks amazing from the outside. Only down side was the very small double room we had and the bathroom being basically a shower, WC and tiny sink in the same wet room. The beds were very small too. Everything was great except that out room was not in the 'jail' area - it was was more ordinary tan I expected. Be sure to ask for a jail room if that is important for you.

Very nice property, comfortable, great bathroom. Interesting concept - converted prison. Restaurant and bar were good. Breakfast excellent. Good location, easy to catch tram just in front, very close to walk to central downtown. Only downside - not many restaurants in immediate neighborhood. Highly recommend this property.

Nice job of converting a prison into a hotel...standard room was equivalent of two cells with nicely done bAthroom facilities added. Jailhouse restaurant was very good. We usually search outside the hotel for a restaurant but reviews were good so we tried it and were not at all disappointed. breakfast had lots of choices including a chef waiting to […] make your egg order if you so chose. One of the best boutique hotel i have stayed in. Cant believe its Best Western. I am not a fan of BW chain. Its modern, comfy, friendly & way above my expectation. Not much of a Jail feel since its been completely remodeled but no disapptment at all. Not much atmosphere at the bar but convenient location.. tram stop right infront of the hotel. The fact that this was a prison until 2003 was the attraction for me. The room had free internet and the hotel provided a very long ethernet cord so you could use your lap top anywhere in the room. The bathroom was large. You also had an in room safe to use at no charge. The free hot breakfast was great. I can't say enough about how helpful and cheerful the staff was during our stay. The hotel was often very busy yet the staff maintained their cool as they helped visitor after visitor with problems, inquiries, restaurant recommendations, etc. We had several situations that they were particularly helpful with, and always asked the next day how things […] had gone. The hotel was very good and only about 3 years old. It is a converted county jail that they use to thier advantage keeping the halls and stairs in prison style. Some doorways have bars on both sides for image. They have the jailhouse newletter, the Jailbreak bar and resturant, and the Jailyard terrace. The rooms are bright and new with modern lighting […] and a nice wall to wall shower. They have a desk with free internet cable hookup. They are located 3 blocks and 10 minutes from the Viking line ferry to Tallin and Stockholm I think. The number 4 tram line will get you to the center of the city in about 5 minutes. A truly wonderful hotel; unusual but great setting, large rooms and bathrooms, relaxed but still efficient service, easy enough distance from centre of city. Great value for a 4 star hotel.

It was fun to be in hotel that was previously a prison. Teh hotel is well renovated / refurnished. It was very clean an dcomfortable. We were super happy with the first room (310), but a little disappointed with the second one as the second bathroom was much smaller and the door kept getting stucked (313). So it really depends on what room you get. […] That said, they were both impeccably clean and comfortable. Rooms were also of reasonable size. Breakfast has a good selection. Great hotel.....not only a former jail with lots of history and character but outstanding rooms, great staff and good breakfast. Very handy for No4 tram which stops right outside the hotel and saves blowing all your Euros on taxis!...Not much to do around the hotel but great value for money.

WOW... This was something different Allegedly Somone spent Euro 40,000,000 converting the old city prison into this great hotel. Comfortable, clean, good value and excellent cuisine. A tram stop right ouside the door (sorry.... the prison walls !) and quick access into the centre of Helsinki. I was attending a 5 day conference nearby and managed to lure 16 people over to eat at the JAILBIRD from the nearby Scandic - they loved the atmosphere and had a great night. Had a good stay in the prison! Clean comfortable and quiet. Great breakfast in the bowels of the jail. Easy walk to ferry and town and had a good walk around the neighborhood. Would stay here again.

The old prison that is now the Hotel Katajanokka is an excellent choice for Helsinki. Set amid the art nouveau district of Katajanokka a short walk from the city centre, and an even shorter one to the ferry for Tallinn, the hotel is a delight. The rooms are actually 2 cells or more that have been knocked into one, refurbished and well equipped. The […] hotel keep the prison theme running throughout all the ameneties (Jailbird restaurant for example) and even give you tin plates and cups to eat from (if you want). The food in the restaurant was excellent if a little pricey, even by Helsinkis standards and the staff were friendly. I would stay there again if I returned to Helsinki. Devamı

Great location, the best breakfast buffet we ever had in Europe. Clean comfortable rooms.

We stayed at this hotel on our July 2009 trip through Scandinavia. I selected this hotel due to some of the reviews and the "cool" factor of staying in an old prison. Positives: The hotel was very clean, staff was very friendly, and was pretty "cool" as you were in an old prison complete with walls on the outside. The room had wireless Internet, and […] a great flat screen TV with quite a few channels. There is also a tram stop right outside the front door basically, so that is convenient if taking public transport. Negatives: Like an old prison, the room was pretty tiny and the breakfast while pretty good seemed to be empty of food even within 30 minutes of ending. It seemed they stopped stocking food the last hour, and with a 6 month old baby we seemed to always be getting there right before closing time. That all being said, this is a pretty "cool" hotel for a chain as long as you don't want a huge room...but than again what else did you expect booking in an old prison? Devamı

We stayed for 3 nights with a 22 month-old and it was really super. The room was a good size and the beds were very comfortable. The buffet breakfast was a good mix of food, both hot and cold, which you could eat at your own pace. After spending almost two weeks traveling in Eastern Europe, I was delighted the comfortable accommodations and the really comfortable mattress at this hotel. Being close to the ferry and local merchants was a plus.

Besides an excellent room, the front desk was extremely helpful with our questions. Additionally, the breakfast spread was very well presented and had great choices. Definitely a choice for easy excursions with the tram 100 feet from the front door.

If you are looking for a unique high quality stay in Helsinki, this is it. They have done an amazing job turning this until recent prison into a Hotel. Only the restaurant could use maybe a tiny bit more light - although the dungeon look is intended. It brightens up for breakfast. The Hotel is located on a penisula a short walk away from the Ferry Terminals. […] Tram line 4 stops right next to the hotel to give you a ride, 8 Mins to city center - if you don't just walk there (25min) taking in Helsinki's flair - or connect to bus line 615 which takes you to the airport in 45mins. Hotellissa kaikki tuntuu olevan kaikki kohdallaan. Henkilökunta iloista, rakennus itsessään varsin kiehtova. Mutta mutta, pysäköinti on tolkuttoman kallista verrattuna mihin tahansa.

Kjempefint hotell med veldig hyggelig personell, en spesiell atmosfære ettersom det er et ombygd fengsel. Høyt under taket, og veldig pene og koselige rom. Generelt sett meget høy standard, og ingen ting å utsette på noe. Trikkestopp rett utenfor hotellet(kjekt i -20C), som går tvers igjennom sentrum, og til andre siden av byen.

Jättefint hotell, trevlig personal och kul att bo i ett gammalt fängelse. Rummen var fina och generöst tilltagna; som småbarnsfamilj med två barn kände vi ändå att vi hade gott om plats. Både barnvagn och pulka kunde ställas utan att de störde och båda barnen kunde sova i bäddsoffa. Bra beläget vid spårvagnshållplatsen (nr 4) men man kan också gå till […] centrum på 15 min. Enda minuset var städningen: efter 3 nätter såg vi bara att sängarna bäddades, men märkte inte av någon dammsugning, inget nytt toalettpapper eller byte av engångsartiklar. Fick själv gå och byta en smutsig handduk i receptionen. Synd på en så fin vistelse i övrigt; kan ändå rekommendera hotellet om man får det till ett bra pris. Devamı

とても良い。ビジネスホテル+アルファな快適かつ、ちょっと面白味のある滞在が出来ます。朝食の充実ぶりも素晴らしい。 連泊して歩いてみましたが、周りにはあまり何もありません。近くのスーパー、レストランはともにトラムで１駅かかります。場所がカタヤノッカとセンターではないので、そこは注意が必要です。（日本で市内からこの距離に刑務所があれば驚きですが） 諸々含めてもとても良い滞在になりました。お薦めです。

Из минусов только отсутствие бесплатной парковки, платная реально дорогая. Остальное все супер. Ближайшая бесплатная длительная парковка в 15 минутах пешком.

Hôtel très original, bon buffet petit déjeuner, pas loin du centre ville. Seuls poinst négatifs, on ne peut pas aérer les chambres car les fenêtres sont verrouillés et le sauna qui n'est gratuit que le weekend (il serait bon que ce point soit ajouté sur l'annonce)

Tämä hotelli hurmasi ainutlaatuisuudellaan. Huoneet on remontuitu tyylikkäästi säilyttäen ajan henki. Aamupala oli hyvin järjestetty ja maukas. Kävely Katajanokan tuulisella rannalla oli myös kokemus. Yhteydet hotellilta keskustaan ovat myös loistavat, ratikka 4 tai kymmenen minuutin kävely vie Kauppatorille. Hotellet ligger relativt centralt och personalen var vänligt. Endast de varma rätter på frukostbuffet var kalla. I övrigt kan man bara rekommendera hotellet.
