Grand Union Hotel - Saratoga Springs

We rented a parlor suite with kitchen microwave etc. One room had 2 beds and no tv the second room had a bed no head board and a tv. There was no kitchen no microwave. The room was on the back side of the motel almost alley like. Would not stay there again!

You get what you pay for. Motel, not hotel, is clean, fairly convenient and pretty outdaed although the bed was fantastic.

I arrived at the hotel to find everything dark, and no apparent office. I drove around the place for 15 minutes trying to figure out if I had the right address. But the sign said the hotel name....I called my husband at home, got a phone number, called it...rolled over to voice mail. Drove into the parking lot again and saw a sign on a window that said […] "If you need help call Mark at 518-XXX-XXXX." The hotel name was not on the sign nor was it on the window. I had prepaid the room so I called the number....Mark answered and told me where he had hidden my room key. I was the only person in the place, guest or employee. The room was fine, but I guess when they say "off season" they mean it! I almost gave up and only didn't because it was 9:30 and I was really tired! Give this one a pass and stay somewhere where real human beings are there to check you in! Devamı

I grew up in Saratoga and this motel was owned by a classmate's family. Did not know it had been sold. Beds were fine, but the small fridge had half empty soda bottles from previous customers; desk had receipts from 3 weeks ago;the lamps beside the beds did not work and there was no housekeeping on Thanksgiving Day. I would have overlooked the unmade […] beds that day if we had been told ahead of time. At checkout, I brought these things up to the owner and desk clerk; the replies: I guess they missed some cleaning and I couldn't get anyone to work on Thursday. If there was no help, it seems to me the owner should have pitched in. We had 2 rooms and the one my sons stayed in smelled terrible from stale smoke. Great place, very friendly staff.

First of all it is a Motel not a hotel! We were treated very disrespectfully by the staff because a neighbor said we were being loud, which we were not. We were actually scared for our safety because of the treatment we received. Breakfast was never ready in the morning when we came in and the service from the owner was not friendly at all. The evening […] gentleman was very friendly. I don't understand when there were only three rooms rented they didn't give us a one room buffer between the rooms. instead they had all three rooms right in a row. Thin walls, and tiny rooms make for noises from rooms. Will not stay here again. Devamı

The photo is misleading. This is not a motel up-town, but on the outskirts. It is very dated and the room smelled like an old motel (masked residual smoke odor with bad cleaner).

The hotel was very basic. Water didn't drain. Pillow was not comfortable. It is obvious that the owner of the hotel has not invested on the property for long time. Compared with the current condition, it was definitely over-rated. We will not use it again.

Very nice location. Can walk to track and downtown scene. Hotel older motel style but very well maintained. Owners obviously take pride in their business and value their customers.

Kind of what I expected, room musky, shower did not drain. You get what you pay for, I guess.

We have spent 17 years traveling to Saratoga Springs, NY, for at least one week of the racing season during August. This year, we were late making reservations; therefore, our favorite place to stay was booked. We had to take what was left. Now we know what a 2-star motel is like and we won't be staying there again. We were put in a back room facing […] a forest, literally 8 to 10 feet from our door. Good location, Clean room. Satisfying breakfast included. Spring water high in iron content; try a different spring if "water" is your reason for visiting Saratoga Springs.

if just looking for a basic, no frills hotel. this is the place, very good location to both the track and casino. im talking 3 or 5 minutes to both. located very close to restaurants and bars in nice area. hotel does have pool also. rate wasnt bad for a sunday in summer during racing either. overall would stay again and recommend.

I would never stay at this property again, even for free! Horribly outdated decor aside, the rooom had an overwhelmingly musty smell, dirty shower, and a visibly unlaundered duvet. When we asked in the lobby for an in-room refrigerator, we were told that we couldn't have one because we were only staying one night. "But we have refrigeration and an ice […] bucket right here in the lobby," was the subsequent comment. Totally awful! The only positive would be the location near the performing arts center. It was as I expected. It's a motel that is conveniently located. It is a place to crash after a day at the races and night on the town.

This was the cheapest hotel and only one left on opening day weekend. It was dingy with a musty smell to the room. It is what I expected. Good location and it does have a dirty pool.

The people at the counter didnt really understand much english, so when I complained about the "Free Internet in all rooms" not working they were unable to respond effectively. This was a key factor for me, I needed the internet and as such was pretty frustrated with the hotel. They promised a $10 credit to compensate me but I have not seen that yet […] and really, it doesn't begin to make up for the fact that I wanted and needed internet. For me that was not negotiable. The room was clean, and there was nothing bad about it. The TV worked, the AC as well. All in all a perfectly adequate place to stay. Devamı

The room was fine, though a bit small. Ask for the refrigerator or microwave. They are not in the room unless you ask for them. Convienent location.

It fulfilled my needs. Reasonable rate, near my destination for the day; neat and clean. The only thing would be the shower stall; too small but workable. All hotels/motels when they upgrade should be rquired to put in handicap toilets.

This is a biker motel with pastic chairs in front of every room. If that is what you are looking for, then you found a nice place. If on the other hand you are looking for a Grand Hotel, this is not it. The name and pictures are very misleading. The hotel is well situated and clean. Service was prompt and polite.

Clean room with oldish furnishings, reasonably well kept up. Modern TV with cable, WiFi worked reasonably well. Did not use spa.

In selecting this hotel the picture accompaning the description was a major factor in my selection. When we arrived we could not find the multi-story brownstone downtown Hotel in the picture but a run down Motel out of town. We had to walk thru a dirty hall to get to our room which was tiny and dark. To top it off they tried to get us to pay an extra […] $10.00 to get a key. The last draw was a toilet that over flowed. The rooms are a bit dated and gloomy (wood panelling), but quite comfortable, nice shower, small fridge in room. They have cereal, bagels, tea and coffee laid out in the reception area if you want to grab a quick and easy breakfast. Hotel has free wireless. If you want a roadside hotel , it is adequate It does not compare to Motel 6 or EconoLodge. It is not what expected.

it was perfectly pleasant for the money

I was in town for a wedding and I waited too long to make my reservation at the hotel where most people were staying, so I stayed across the street at the Grand Union. I arrived at 12:30 and was told that check in was at 1, and that normally they'd have to charge a full day's stay to check in early, but that they'd let this one go. I had a hard time […] believing that. The room itself was fine -- nothing spectacular. I turned on the heat because the window had been left open, and it did heat up fast, but then it alternately blew hot and cold air. I was gone most of the day and into the evening, but when I returned, I could hear the people on the other side of the wall where the beds were, and all night I could hear someone snoring. It was muted, but I could hear it nonetheless. Location is great and it's an easy walk to downtown. The front desk staff when I left were really nice. Devamı

While the location -- about 1/4 mile from downtown Saratoga Springs -- and price of this motel were great, this motel was everything a motel is often reputed to be: a little dumpy, less-than-professional front desk staff, a mix of clientele. However, it served my purpose well and I would consider staying there again in the future.

People are very nice and the rooms were very clean

We stayed here for just a night, and thankfully, that was all. While the hotel was convenient (right on Broadway), it wasn't within walking distance to anything. The rooms were not large, but they were adequate if you were just there to sleep. The room was relatively clean - though when I turned down one of the beds I did find a scrap of an envelope, […] which made me question the cleanliness. The biggest disappointment for us was the basic comfort of the beds - the mattresses were rock solid, the pillows had no support, and the sheets all felt like sandpaper. We all had a rather lousy night sleep because of this. Thankfully we brought out own pillows, but it was a marginal help for the abysmal mattress and sheets. While we will be returning to Saratoga every year, we will not be staying at the Grand Union again. Though all the hotels are expensive during the meet, I would be willing to pay more for a much more comfortable stay!! Devamı

Good place to stay when visiting Saratoga for the racing, not a fancy place but friendly and they have a nice outdoor pool you can lounge around while reading your Daily Racing Form. Downtown is walkable maybe 20 minutes or so.

Great location and very clean room. More impressed than I expected.

Hotel room was dark, damp... and had NO frills: no fridge, no iron, few lights- took minimal to a new level. Bathroom door got stuck against closet door. Pool was being filled by a garden hose- not open during a hot Memorial Day Weekend, disappointing. Staff was rude, aloof and scatter brained. "Breakfast" and "gym" were literally some bagels and 2 […] nautilus machines in the outdated lobby. Booked this room due to lack of other availability (some Rowing event that weekend) and the price was MUCH lower than anything we could find, but you really REALLY pay for what you get. Very dated, OK if you just need a place to crash, but not enough for much else. Devamı

Booked the room last minute, very close to both Skidmore and SPAC (my destinations). Exactly what I expected for a 2-star motel. Clean enough and easy check-in and out.
