Hotel Elegant - Montreal

Horrible! I was unaware when I was booking that it was the same weekend for the F1 car racing event so I understand why I was having such a hard time finding a place. The upcharge for Sat. night was understandable but excessive and I checked around after the Sat. and there were lots of other hotel vacancies for MUCH less and WAY nicer! If you had dropped […] your charge after the Sat. night I would have been happier but you didn't and I was unaware of how terrible the place was until we got there and we had prepaid so were loathe to move. Our room was on the first floor with the window sill at alley level where we were treated to crack smokers on a regular basis. It was freezing so the front desk gave us a plug in heater - helped a little. The smoke alarm hung from the ceiling and the door banged into it each time you opened it and the smoke alarm went off when you had a shower from the steam heat - annoying to us and I'm sure everyone else, although no one came to check out what the problem may be even though the alarm was screeching. The bed was hard as a rock and I'm sure the comforter hadn't ever been washed. The "breakfast" that was included was bad coffee in a tiny styrofoam cup and a muffin from Costco that was disgusting. Our key card for our room hardly ever worked and when we tried to get it re-keyed at the desk they said "Oh yeah, 107, that one doesn't work too well". This hotel was clean and quiet, despite being one of a dozen or so in a row along the street. There were no issues with the bus terminal being adjacent. Lots of water pressure in the shower, and the staff were friendly - contrary to some other visitors' experience. Parking in the vicinity is cheaper than in other areas of town - best to go round the […] block and park under the library, as you can move your vehicle in and out. Good so far, the room next door were very loud untill 4 am. Service was great young guys at the front desk were very friendly.

The people at the front desk were very pleasant. The hallways were clean, and our room was small but tidy. The bed was very hard and I was a little nervous about the bedding as there was some unknown hair on it, but the tv was nice and large. It had a jet tub which I did not try but thought was pretty cool. Basically it was a good place to crash after […] seeing an amazing show at the Bell Centre, for a cheap rate I couldn't ask for much. Location is perfect, walking distance to everything, metro station is a block away. Parking garage is across a street, looks secure, reasonable charge per day. Staff is very helpful, just do not be shy to ask. Would definitely stay again.

This was a great place for the price. Its right next everything. There is also a very secure parking garage directly in front of the hotel it cost 12 dollars to park your car for 24 hours. We left are car their for the weekend and it cost 24 dollars which really is not bad for downtown and I new our car was safe. The room was very clean, but had a strong chemical smell that i could not identify and would not go away. similar to moth balls. other than that, the room was clean and comfortable and everything else was in order. Great location if you are not familiar with the area and reasonable rates.

When they say it is in the heart of the city, what part of the city? For first timers that was very deceiving. The hotel does need work - basing this on our room. Good little hotel pour a night stay. The room was clean and comfortable. The surrounding area was noisy and there's a lack of isolation on the windows.

Having selected an economical hotel for our stay, we were pleasantly surprised with what we got. The hotel location cannot be better, right next to the bus station and the metro station and a 10 minute walk to old montreal. The room was nice and clean. More impressive was the bathroom with the bathtub and aqua massager. The front desk staff was very nice and helpful. I asked the shower curtain to be changed due to mold and it was done right away. The walls are paper thin. The balcony is nice and the fridge was an asset.

Hotel was located in an area where cars are broken into and was not safe to park. While vacationing in Canada , my husband and I realized that parking in general in Montreal is not safe . Be aware that your car can be vandalized in broad daylight just as it happened to us. It was a very traumatic experience. Lesson learned the hard way -it is best that […] you park your car in an underground parking lot or in an attended lot for your own safety -also the police and the legal system seemed ineffective to these types of matters ! We looked for an inexpensive place close to the Old Port area to stay for one night and Elegant appeared to be what we were looking for. The bathroom could have been better cleaned, grout in tiles look like they were never deep cleaned. Bed was super hard. Asked for another blanket and it had burns marks and was ripped. Breakfast was just one kind of muffin and crossiants. Extremely close to the coach terminal if you take the bus to Montreal, like we did. The hotel was also close the subway, which could ALS be accessed from the bus terminal. A fairly close walk to Rue St. Denis, where you find a nice selection of restaurants. The only thing I was disappointed about was the quality of some of the towels and not having […] a mini-fridge as promised. The towels were clean, but they seem to have permanent, subtle stains that won't go away. My girlfriend and I shared one towel and requested more the next day. Some of the news ones received were in similar condition. The mini-fridge we were promised on the web description wasn't in our room. For whatever reason, we didn't have one. We had a peek into some of the other rooms each day we went out and realized the other rooms DID in fact have a fridge. It wasn't really a big deal not having a fridge because we ate out all four days we were there. If you're concerned about not having a fridge, just make sure inquire before checking in. We were disappointed with the room because we could smell smoke and also we could hear conversations through the walls with the people who were staying there. Also the continental breakfast was so minimal. There were a few croisants and some frozen/stale muffins, not even butter for the croisants. There was a toaster but no bread.

The hotel is your basic inexpensive, barebones hotel. The location was the best thing about it. Breakfast room was the worst. Four small tables, 8 x 8. I think they expected us to take our stuff to our rooms. The bed was always made even after I got up at 2:00 pm. The Berri-UQAM metro station was only a block from the hotel. OK for the price.

The Hotel was nice enough,they stated it was non-smoking,smelled of smoke! We were on second floor and people above us were noisy.Music from a couple blocks over went on until wee hours of morning.Parking was next to impossible.

No room controls for air conditioning. Extremely cold. Bed was very hard and uncomfortable. The back parking lot of the building sounded like a construction zone. There were multiple people using very loud language through all hours of the night. The last night there there were a number of vehicles parking very late with headlights shining in throgh […] the window. Would not stay there again. I spoke to the desk about the cold air conditioning and the manager told me he could do nothing about it and that maybe I could open the window. Due to all of the noise/activity in the back I was afraid to open the window. Can't beat the convenience of the location but would look for a much quieter place next time. Thank you for your time. My room was large, comfortable and quiet. I parked my car for free on the street in front for five days. The location allows an easy walk to the subway, the bistros on R St Denis, the stores on Ste Catherine, and the attractions in the old port.

We arrived at 1:30 and were given a room that was being made up when others were available. There was a plumbing problem in the wall with the sound of water gushing, at first we thought this was someone upstairs having a shower, upon our return later that evening it was so loud we could not sleep and reported it to the front desk, he switched us rooms […] at 2am in the morning. Needless to say we did not sleep much. Breakfast, none left when we arrived and we did arrive before cut off time. Upon check out we advised the desk manager, he was not willing to listen but finally went upstairs to check, said it was someone having a shower but know one was above us and the problem was constant. After much protesting he decided to refund us 25.00 which was not adequate for what we went through. Not a very good first experience. Stayed at the Hotel Elegant during the 2011 F1 Grand Prix. Prices were jacked up as they were everywhere else. If you're not into to making a fashion statement, this hotel was clean, had a comfortable bed, free WiFi, free continental breakfast, a grocery store half a block away, and close proximity to downtown and the Metro. I stayed in the hotel for 3 days and I didn't have major problems. It is located 5 mins from the Subway station and Gay village. So you don't really need a car to reach almost all of the city attractions. But parking is not for free and you have to pay $12 for each day. Don't count on breakfast, it is only coffee and sweet bread:) They don't have an […] air conditioner in the room but instead there is something up in the ceiling and you have to be smart enough to use it:))) And I didn't like pillows at all because they are not comfortable at all! Bare-bones budget hotel close to where we needed to be. Dated decor, TV up on top of a closet where it was almost unwatchable, bathroom looked like it had be redone somewhat recently. Plastic bag over the smoke detector and washcloth over one of the fire sprinklers would probably be an indication of a fire hazard or other tampering with safety devices, […] something the Fire Marshall should probably look into. The room was horrible. It was the size of a matchbox as was the whole hotel itself. It resembled alot of the motel that I visited while I was in Toronto, maybe they should consider renaming their business. It was clean, that was possibly the only plus point, and the fact that there was a washroom and fridge in the room.

Exactly what we expected - a bare bones hotel that was clean, nice and a good place to sleep as we spent the weekend in Montreal. The mattress was very firm in the room we stayed, but other than that we had no complaints. Nice staff, easy parking down the street for about $10 per day and overall a good experience.

Super location. 3 minutes to central bus/metro station. By metro just minutes to Old Town and restaurants. Hotel and room in good order. Seemed safe. A/C worked fine - just have to know that the vents are opened by rotating center baffle. Would definitely do it again.
