Hotel Mela - New York

My trip to NYC was for business and I am so glad to have discovered Hotel Mela. Just off 6th Avenue (Avenue of the Americas) and also close to Times Square (but just far enough away to not be bothered by the noise and lights). I was in the city for a trade show at the Javitz. I had no problems getting a cab each morning (the fare was about $5-7 depending […] on traffic) and enjoyed walking back to the hotel each night. The Mela staff was very helpful and friendly—when working with them face-to-face. However, I gave them a "3" in my review because they were very slow or completely unresponsive when calling the hotel or when I asked for things via phone from my room (like, requesting extra towels, having my bags brought up to my room, receiving a package, etc.) The hotel itself is a gem. I've stayed in several others in this same area of town that were as budget friendly but were completely gross. The rooms are small but are comfortable and quiet. There are robes and slippers in the rooms—a nice touch, especially for a hotel in this price range. And, the street the hotel is on has a great selection of restaurants and there is a little deli/grocery next door as well. When I need a hotel in NYC again, I will definitely try to book a room at the Mela first! I highly recommend it. Devamı

We requested a 'Superior' room. I should have read the description of the room more carefully...incredibly tiny with a full bed! Like European hotel room small! Room also had a funny smell, but seemed clean. No view. Front desk staff was polite and efficient. Oversall, you can do better.

Very nice hotel in the heart of the theater district with 2 restaurants on either side. The room was nicely decorated but very small...no room for a chair or desk or any place to put your suitcase except on the floor or on the bed. Also, no ice machines.

Very efficient operation. Very comfortable rooms. Quiet location and because there is no lobby/bar etc people are in their rooms when they are at the hotel.Excellent French Bistro next door.

This hotel was very convienent for when we went to New York for the New Year's. The location was great! the service was great and the room was amazing. The only problem I had was with the t.v. in the room. Could not figure out why the t.v. did not work even though we were in the room for sleep and to relax. It is well situated for one to get around New York.A short walk or cab ride, to most places that you would want to see in the City. For the "urbanite" the subway is about a block away. Spent 4 nights with my wife in a deluxe room which was priced just a little above the standard room. A great location with a spacey room for a decent price. The room had some signs of wear here and there but overall was well maintained and comfortable. A lot of room for your luggage and a closet, minibar and a small safe. We got our room on the second […] floor right next to the elevator, business center and the gym, which brought some extra noise. The traffic didn't bother as our window wasn't facing the 44th street (which didn't seem too busy anyway). Didn't include breakfast but had a couple of breakfast rooms/bistros right next to it with delicious but pricey breakfast. The location is great with just a block to the Times Square and a few blocks from subway stations with decent connections to e.g. the airport. Would give it a 3-star rating on a global scale, but a good value for money in NYC if you're looking for a spacey room to rest your head in. Devamı

The staff was great. Room was extremely comfortable and roomy. Bed was comfortable and was very pleased over all with everything. Will stay at this fabulous place next time I decide to stay in NY again . Thanks again!

Hotel is located jut steps from Times Square, the subway, and plenty of dining and entertainment options. The staff is very friendly, helpful, and knowledgable about the area and attractions. The rooms, while small, are clean, comfortable, and well-decorated. We greatly enjoyed our stay and plan on coming back.

Pros: * Even though almost everyone before me has talked about it, I'm going to say again.. So i went up with my gf for a night in the city and we picked this location for same reason your reading this review. Cheap and highly rated. Its a boutique hotel, its nothing extravagent but perfect if all you want is a nice place to stay downtown. It was really a place to crash since we were out sightseeing all day. The neighborhood is nice and walking […] distance to times square and Rockefeller Center. We had an interior room, which is a view of a brick wall, but if you want a quiet nights sleep its perfect! My only complaint was that the mattresses were kinda cheap. The pillows and linens were excellent and size of room was adequate. Elevators are small, but work. Staff was nice and helpful, and garage next door is not bad overnight rate for $40! If i had to go again i would choose this hotel. Devamı

Very nice for anyone with a busy schedule in the city. I did not need a huge lobby or meeting place so it was perfect to get in and out. Would stay again.

So close to Times Square. Room was tiny though. I read other reviews before we went saying that and I thought it couldn't be too bad, but it's tiny! Good thing is the location is so close to everything that you're hardly in the room anyways! We loved our trip!

Hotel Mela is a great find! On a very nice block in Times Square, with plenty of restaurants, bars, etc. just down the block. Very comfortable room, nice & attentative staff. I'd highly recommend it!

I have stayed at Hotel Mela twice and have been delighted both times. Great location and service.

I have stayed at the Mela before and was disappointed in the condition of the room this trip. The carpet was filthy, with food in the corners by the bed where the vacuum obviously wouldn't fit because the bed was in such a tight space. While I love the area - convenient to Times Square - I'm not sure that I will choose the Mela again. There are other […] boutique hotels nearby with much nicer accommodations at a similar price. Great value but maid did not come back after we told her to and shower had a little more mold than my tastes care for.

Hotel Mela was a great place to stay. It is right off of Times Sqare and an easy walk to many good places. The staff was friendly, courteous and helpful, particularly the concierge staff. The room was clean and comfortable. I would recommend Hotel Mela without hesitation.

We had planned a trip to new York for our Christmas present to each other, since my boyfriend is in the marine corps and will be deployed next year, we knew it was going to be expensive to stay but the price we found was great! Couldn't beat it! We had a nice queen bed and the room itself was nice we couldn't even hear traffic going on outside our window!! […] Not a huge room but not small either was perfect for sleeping and staying almost in the heart of times square, would stay here again!! Hotel located right in the cente of everything which is just what you want really if u r interested in seeing the city. Clean and tidy, we had an executive suite so was a nice size room, wasn't much natural light due to the buildings being so close. Staff were very helpful, I would recommend this as good place to stay in NY

Mela was a wonderful hotel with friendly staff who did their best to take care of our needs. The only complaint would be about the pillows which were tooo soft. Otherwise it was a great experience.

First time to NYC and this hotel was in the heart of it all. Just a block to timesquare and radio city. Hotel was amazing for price and location, would definitely book again. Staff super amazing all around good hotel.

I've stayed at other 5 star hotels in NYC and I must say, they were not any better than the Mela (4 star). Although the room was a bit on the small side, it was cozy and comfortable. The bed was very comfortable and bathroom was adequate. I have recommended this hotel to friends and family already. Being close to Times Square, it may be a bit difficult to get to (the street is one way eastward) unless you approach 44th street from the east from 10th or 9th Ave,. However we were really happy with the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff and the quality of the furnshings. The location of this hotel is excellent. Everything was great apart from the view from our room - overlooking the back of another building with a very noisy air conditioning unit - the windows didn't close properly to drown out the sound, and let in a draft. Apart from that, we couldn't fault them! I would avoid room 405 for those reasons though.

when I arrived other guests were complaining about the room size being too small - yes the room was 'cosy' but not tiny and it was clean and i've had worse while in the states. The location was brilliant, the staff fantastic and my experience wonderful. Good place, small room, small bed, high price, worse service - you need to call for everything - slippers, bath cap, tee... sometimes noone answered for 10 minutes.

The location was PERFECT!! Close to theaters, Radio Music City Hall, Times Square and great restaurants. The hotel was very clean, and the staff was friendly and attentive to detail. Hotel Mela was a pleasant experience. The hotel stay was nice, clean and very comfortable. The staff was helpful and courteous. This hotel is right in time square, so it's very convenient for tourist. The room was a little small but modern and had every amenity. When we come back to New York we'll stay here again.

Hotel Mela is within walking distance of Times Square, Broadway theaters, Rockerfeller Plaza, and many nice restaurants. Location and a pleasant staff are its primary appeal. The hotel itself is an older buidling and the plumbing, heating, etc. are starting to show age. At least as to our rooms, the view out the windows was non-existent - brick wall […] of adjoining building. The rooms were of a reasonable size for NY but be prepared to live out of your suitcase as storage space is extremely limited. We were traveling with two preteens and had hoped for adjoining rooms- best we could get was the same floor. With the older heating system, maintaining a consistent room temperature was challenging. My husband and I stayed in Hotel Mela for 4 nights during our recent trip to New York. We were delighted with the location of the hotel. I expected it to be a little noisy at night because it is so close to Times Square but you couldnt hear a thing. Really enjoyed our stay. We usually stay at another hotel in NYC but was recommended to Hotel Mela. Nice hotel, had its quirks, no black out shades or dark drapes, TV remote very old but lovely & geographically ideal! Nice place to add to our list of places to stay in New York City with good prices.

As a tradition, every year my husband, myself, along with my sister in law and husband stay for two nights in NYC during the wonderful Holiday Season! Our stay and the Mela was wonderful. The hotel was clean and comfortable and the staff was pleasant and courteous to make our stay just perfect.

Great location; staff is friendly. Room and bed were small; if you need a queen size bed be sure to ask for it. I'd stay there again.

This hotel is in a prime location, capable staff, but rooms are unbelievably small. If you are a business traveler, solo, this is a fine option, but definitely not for vacation...no space.

The hotel is extremely well located for a short trip, I would say not more than a week or 10 days. It is located around 40 steps from Times Square and pretty much in walking distance of everything! We went with my parents and it was great as the old man could nip back to the hotel for a little sit down and relaxation when tired and then come back out […] for dinner. The rooms are well equipped and clean and nice. They are small though as others write too. We found it fine for a week but I think longer and one would start to need a little more space. There is a foyer and front desk, but not really a lobby - nowhere to have a drink at the hotel bar or relax around a table, which was a little bit of a shame - but nothing that was really a big deal. The gym or fitness room is very small and hence not very well equipped. Don't book this hotel if you need a well-equipped gym. Front desk staff were helpful. The excutive Room was very comfortabke, spacious and value for money by NYC standards. We stayed for two weeks and having coffee making machine in the room made it feel like coming home after a day out walking the streets of NYC. It's close to the broadway scene and any restaurant imaginable. Thus in the evening you didn't need to catch a taxi or subway […] to anywhere because it's all on your doorstep. The room we had was in a quite part of the hotel so there was no noise at night and the blackout curtains and an extremely comfortable bed ensured that we were well rested for another day of walking. The room it self was clean and quite modern in feel. We did not need to use service staff but on our first day we found a problem with the sink which was rectified straight away. There is no breakfast room attached to the hotel but the restaurant next door serves good breakfast and they also provide room service breakfast. If you don't like large 5 star hotel chains then Hotel Mela is a great boutique hotel with style. Devamı

Great Location, Clean rooms, somewhat noisy as right in the theater district, especially after all the bars close. Parking discount at garage next door just past the hotel entrance.

A nice enough hotel in a great location if you want to be in the Theater District. The room had enough space to walk on either side of the bed, no more. I would stay again but ask for a bigger room.
