Excellent locationfor central oxford. Impressive boutique hotel Cell rooms a nice change from the ordinary. Loved the courtyard setting, good selection of restaurants on your doorstep. Just one complaint I would have: the lighting in the room and indeed throughout the hotel was too low and found it extremely difficult to read anything in room with ease. […] Brighter lighting would be a huge benefit! We only had one night stay but could have spent three days just exploring this amazingly clever hotel. Located in an historic buiding the hotel was converted from a prison. I stayed in the main building where the room was comfortable and made up from previous cells, and although the high windows allow light in, they could be better illuminated. Great shower. Iron and board and tea/coffee service in room. I particularly like the "gallery" which harked […] back to the original buiding. Checkin and checkout were efficient and courteous. Will repeat stay. Iloved the hotel.Th e staff were friendly but not stuffy and helpful. They took on board my reporting of a shower malfunction gratefully. My one suggestion would be, a more generous supply of tea/coffee/milk and perhaps 2 biscuits in what was a double room.

Very central hotel clean quirky but front of house staff need some serious training. Our first impression of the hotel was impressive with the wonderful frontage until we met one of the worst receptions to a hotel we have ever experienced. The reception consists of a number of desks with a receptionist behind each. We may have just been unlucky however […] she was totally disinterested, never invited us to sit down and rarely made eye contact. She spoke in clipped sentences when we asked questions as if we were not good enough to be staying at the hotel due to our late booking and gave us the impression it was beneath her to even be on the desk. The receptionist then without a smile handed over the keys whilst still making us stand, sent us to the wrong floor and as we found out later placed the wrong number of days on the card so our door would not open on the last day. The latter would not normally be a problem is it was not for our first experience. I mentioned our dissatisfaction to another receptionist at the time of leaving. To the hotels credit she looked surprised and with conviction said she would find out who was on reception the day we arrived and the manager would be informed. This may well be a one off, we all have members of our teams who require further training or be invited to look elsewhere for a new vocation. I don’t feel this should deter you from experiencing this quirky hotel however unlike us may be if you too experience a similar arrival take it up with the manager straight away. Customers should also be aware that the beds are like boards. If you use an orthopaedic mattress this is the hotel for you. If you don’t you might need one after your stay. I was assured that the hotel are aware of this and trialling mattress toppers. I would recommend that you insist on being part of the trial if you don’t wish to experience this aspect of prison life! The Malmaison is a spectacular hotel transformed from an old prison with some of the original features remaining. Very unique. We loved it and the restaurant was wonderful.

The location is very convenient for the city centre. We didn't have a "cell" in the main block (would book one next time) but the room was a good size, had a large bathroom and was very comfortable and quiet. The best bit was that it was such an interesting and different place to stay in Oxford compared to the other rather boring, and over priced hotels […] in the city. Very interesting building beautifully adapted. A comfortable hotel with accommodating staff an excellent cocktail bar and restaurant in the centre of Oxford. And it has parking. We enjoyed our stay but would like to have been in the main building. We will return and recommend to others.

This beautifully converted prison building is in a wonderful location with easy access to many of Oxford's beautiful attractions. However Malmaison is an extrememly well hidden hotel, and it took 3 circuits of Oxford to eventually find its location - even with maps, a navigational system and seeking directions from numerous locals! Once in Malmaison, […] our bedroom had a stunning view out onto the prison courtyard. But we found the size of the room to be just as compact as a prison cell. And as the evening progressed, we began to feel like real prisoners suffering in a sauna hot and stuffy room (broken thermostat?) with a rock hard bed and pillows which should have been thrown out years ago. Our final punishment was a meagre allowance of 30 minutes of free WIFI access, which we found worse than an execution! So after our imprisonment for a day and a night - my husband and I thought that our sentence was too long, and were very glad to escape Malmaison as soon as possible. Devamı

Very nice hotel, great location in the centre of Oxford. Parking charges were a little steep at £20. Food in the restraunt was ok, but pricy, but there were many choices available within walking distance.

The hotel design is very interesting (renovated prison) it was clean and in a great location (5 minutes to train station). It was a little expensive and the room was smallish although it is the same all over Oxford. But since it was an old prison the windows didn't open and it got quite hot. The bathroom was modern and clean, heated floor was nice in […] that situation. The staff were polite but not exactly friendly (although I heard them speaking to each other so I knew they were capable of being friendly, just not particularly to the guests.) The drinks in the bar were very expensive, I had one 9 gbp glass of wine and that was it for eating or drinking there. I think I will try another hotel next time, but will likely miss the proximity to the station. But for an open window I will have to try. Devamı

Usual Malmaison style which is very pleasing on the eye. And the conversion from old prison is beautifully done. Areas of building seemed pretty cold (very thick walls) and the water pressure was poor in the shower but this is still a pretty good hotel and I will return here each time I'm in Oxford without doubt.

Just as expected; great location, lovely staff & comfortable, 'different' surroundings. Really cool place to stay - very recommended.

unique experience, good decor ,good parking, overall good experience

The hotel is modern and reasonably attractive (though a bit dark - lighting seems to be an issue in many modern hotels. The rooms are pleasant and comfortable. The price is extortionate when one discovers that breakfast is not included. We felt that some guests could find getting around the hotel a little confusing and it didn't help that one needed […] the keycard to run the room electrics since it was also needed to access parts of the hotel - it was a case of both being together all the time! A unique hotel, in a great location in the heart of oxford. The service was excellent and the brasserie and roof top bar were perfect areas to enjoy a relaxing drink. Having opted for a slightly more expensive room we were slightly disappointed by the size of the bedroom and especially the bathroom in which you could barely swing a cat, and could not […] really enjoy a shower as water pressure was too low. Oxford is a beautiful town and this hotel is no exception. We came for a concert by the Hollies, which was great as expected. The hotel standard was high, good service and a modern room. The temperature in the room was too high for us vikings, and we found no way to open the windows. We enjoyed the wireless internet service.
