L Auberge Carmel - Carmel

We loved our stay here -in the middle of Carmel and great service. The extra touches are so worth the few extra $ to stay here. I particularly loved how they take care of your car and then when you leave, there is bath tea left as a gift in the car. Nice touch.

You will not appreciate this hotel unless you stay for several days. Great location and attentive service will be more apreciated with each night.

Although the weather in Carmel was not up to "vacation standards," (i.e. raining and cold), we loved the Auberge enough to ignore it. Lovely courtyard, cosy room, kind and attentive service (George at front desk even offered to mail a package for us!) and delicious breakfasts all combined to make our stay memorable. Can't wait to go back!

First visit to Carmel and wanted a first rate hotel within walking distance of restaurants and the ocean. The L Auberge was in a perfect location and exceeded our expectation in every way. We wished we would have stayed longer and will be back.

I loved this hotel. It had to be one of the most welcoming hotels ever. The entire staff went out of their way to make sure that everything was just right for us. When we checked in they gave us a "home-made" lemonade drink. We had caramels, nuts, and bottled water in our room. Every night, when the bed was turned down, we found a plate of fresh, home-made […] cookies for our enjoyment (each day was different). Any request was cheerfully dealt with from a dinner reservation to tee times for the Pebble Beach golf tournament. It is within a short walking distance to most of the shops and restaurants that Carmel has to offer, as well as to the water. If you ever find yourself in this neck of the woods, do yourself a favor and stay at the L'Auberge Carmel. We even found a little gift when the valet brought our car the day we left. Devamı

the hotel reflects it's price. everything was perfect from the warm apple cider upon check in to the attentive staff. the restaurant is pricey, but worth every penny for a special occasion.

One bad thing: the shower nozzle, overhead. That said, the staff was wonderful and knowledgeable, the location was great - two blocks from the main drag (Ocean) and a short walk to the beach. The bldg. is from 1929, with thick walls and wood beams. Free valet parking and a daily charge for tips, instead of individual tips. There's a beautiful courtyard, […] with heaters yet and the whole place is welcoming and well-designed. There are stairs to climb - no elevators. Cookies left in the rooms while you're out (or in) eating dinner. Linen mats and slippers by the bed. Very, very nice. Devamı

What an awesome place! Like being in Europe with its brick courtyard and beautiful building.

Very good service but the room was not very good especially taking into consideration the fact that this hotel is part of "Relais Chateaux"...

I can't say enough positive things about this hotel and our experience there. My husband and I stayed for three nights (wish we had planned to stay longer!) and every staff member was literally at our service our entire stay. I've stayed at Westins, Marriotts, Hiltons, Ritz Carltons, Kimpton Hotels, etc., and this by far was a step WAY above the rest […] in the quality of service we received. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful - when we checked in, the woman at the concierge/reception area called for a valet to retrieve our bags. He brought all of our bags up to our room and showed us the different features of the room (we had really heavy bags, and several of them, as this was just one stop we made on our CA vacation). The woman who checked us in also suggested we purchase a bottle of wine to bring down to the beach (walking distance) and drink as we watched the sunset. We took her advice and it was just stunning. When we got in that evening, we were tired, and started looking at their book of local restaurant menus. The staff member who was there offered to order take-out for us and bring it up to the room. We loved the idea. We just expected to get the bags of takeout (which would have been fine!), but they took it another step further and paid for the food in cash when it arrived (and charged the amount to our room), and then plated each of the dishes and presented it to us beautifully in our room. They offered to set up a table in our room to eat at, but we opted for the food on trays on our bed. The next afternoon, we took a bottle of wine out to the patio area. Another staff member was walking by and noticed our wine, and brought over an ice bucket so it would stay cold. I could go on and on about the service - all great things. But on top of that, this is easily one of the most beautiful inns around (certainly the most beautiful I've stayed at). It is French Country style, very peaceful and intimate, and a must-see. Beautiful small hotel and great service. The courtyard is as wonderful and cozy as described by other travelers. We were surprised to learn that there is no air conditioning in the rooms. The front desk quickly provided a fan and temperatures cooled off in the evening, so the heat was only an issue for a couple hours. At checkout we were asked if we […] would like a drink, so my wife got a glass of wine and I had a beer. Before we left the hotel, we were asked to sign a bill for $40 for the one beer and one wine. This is an upscale hotel, but I thought that was ridiculous. Overall, I would return to the L Auberge Carmel again but would be aware of the no air conditioning and the prices of food/drink. Enough said. Couldn't be more pleased and would recommend this In to anyone. This was an alternative to the Lodge at Pebble (full) where I had meetings to attend and offers the same comfort at half the price. Perfect

We had an absolutely fabulous stay at our weekend at L'Auberge Carmel! Our room was beautiful, the food was delicious - very romantic. We will definitely stay there again...as often as we can!

L'Auberge Carmel is nothing short of a fantastic experience. The service was spectacular without feeling hovered over. From the moment we checked in, we felt welcomed, comfortable, and pampered. The building itself was put up in the late 1920's, and the rooms still have some of the character of the time (plaster walls, woodwork, etc.) with some modern […] updates (heated bathroom floor, garden tub. If you are expecting the opulence of something like a Four Seasons, well that is not what this hotel is about. This place just oozes CHARM at every turn. The courtyard is a fantastic place to enjoy a late breakfast or have a bottle of wine. If you didn't know any better, you'd swear you were somewhere in Europe. Each day after we went out the staff would greet us by name and immediately ask if they could bring us anything to the room. They really have a way of making you feel that it gives them great pleasure to service you - not an experience that I have usually, and I believe it is authentic. The hotel restaurant, Aubergine, is one of the finest in the U.S. We had an amazing dining experience there and would highly, highly recommend it for a special dinner. Hotel is conveniently located 1 block off the main shopping area, and 4 blocks from the beach. All-in-all, just can't say enough positive things about L'Auberge Carmel - go and enjoy! Devamı

Could very well be the finest, most accommodating hotel stay we've ever experienced. Ever. Regardless of price. Staff was tremendous. Every little detail covered. This place is not cheap, but it is worth every penny. Should be on the "Top" list of every discriminating traveler who knows quality and appreciates the finer things in life.

This hotel and staff went above and beyond during our stay. We would strongly recommend this hotel if you are looking for a 5 star experience in Carmel.

There were no Bellman and Valet on duty during our stay. HAd to carry luggage up 2 flights of stairs.

this was an absolute piece of heaven. the only place we've ever stayed that compared was the ritz carlton - and this is so much smaller, so the attention you receive is just impecable. gorgeous rooms, excellent baths, breakfast in the courtyard, walk to the beach and endless shopping/dining opportunities. even better in real life than the pictures. […] aubergine was also excellent. the village of carmel-by-the-sea is heaven on earth. we stayed at one other "high end" resort in carmel and it paled in comparison. go for l'augerge. you won't be disappointed! My husband and I stayed at L'Auberge Carmel for the July 4th holiday weekend. Everything about the hotel was excellent. Its location was ideal; just 1 block from Ocean Avenue and several blocks from the beach. The service was outstanding and very personal. The food was incredible. This is now among my favorite places to stay anywhere in the U.S.
