Madonna Inn Resort & Spa - San Luis Obispo

Wonderful. Room was such an adventure. All personal very nice.

The heater in the suite woke me up with a loud noise and my neighbors partied half the night. The theme of my "suite" used unshyaved cowhides. I did not enjoy having uncleanable cowhide on my headboard. It was gross, not cute or thematic. The Madonna Inn and it's over the top decor has always been a place our family loves to stop for lunch. But this was the first time we actually stayed there. It's close to Cal Poly which was our reason for staying there. The room was well maintained and the pool was absolutely beautiful. But It was terrifically noisy. We could hear everything in the […] corridor and were serenaded by very noisy frogs every 10 minutes all night long. I have always wanted to stay at the Madonna Inn. Check. We stayed in the Margerite room. You know all the nick knacks you see in a thrift store and wonder who buys the stuff? Well you can find it all here! About the room. The bed was the most UNCOMFORTABLE bed I've ever slept in. And trust me my bed growing up was uncomfortable. The bed at the Madonna […] Inn was WORSE than my childhood bed! The room was spacious, clean, double sinks, the shower was huge and the highlight? A heated toilet seat! The hotel grounds are beautiful. The pool area was amazing! The food in the restaurant was fabulous! We stayed during the week and the cafe was packed! Seems the locals enjoy the food too! I will definitely go back the the restaurant. The avacado salad itself would be worth the drive from LA to SLO! The service was really friendly. I would go back for the food but don't foresee another night's stay at the Inn. It has officially been checked off the bucket list! Devamı

Great place to check off your bucket list of odd places to stay. Super ridiculous decor that makes for a fun atmosphere. Couple of other highlights. - Great service - Great live music on Fri-Sat. If you've been taking dance lessons, this is the place to show off your skills with your lady. - Surprisingly nice pool area - Really close to all grocery, […] Starbucks, and restaurants. hotel is okay.. just rooms seemed old and outdated. Wasnt what I was expecting..

Room was very clean. Nice pool area. Enjoyed sitting at the big fire place by the restaurants. The Christmas decorations were wonderful. Enjoyed watching the horses. Good food at the coffee shop.

we left with some unwelcome guests from this hotel recently-biting and scratching all the way ....

This hotel is very charming. I love that each room has a different theme. We stayed in room Cloud 9 and it was heavenly. The room was very clean and cozy, but since the walls are paper thin. We could hear whenever somene was walking up and down the stairs or when the guest next to us opened their door. Our room didn't have a bath tub, but the shower […] looked like it have been renovated and was pretty spacious. Also the Madonna Inn isn't direcetly off Downtown so it is a walk away. We were told about the Madonna in by several different people who all insisted that its a must when traveling the Big Sur coastal road and we were so happy that we followed their advice. A completely unique hotel with a character all of its own, its completely over the top and so much fun to stay in. Strangers entered our room and there was not any record of them registering nor did staff ignite a search for these people. We left immediately and filed a police report. We spent our anniversary driving back home. The follow up phone call from the General Manager was no different than the non-reactive front desk staff the evening of our time at the […] Madonna. The San Luis Obispo police did share this is the beginning of people stealing from hotel rooms as the Holiday Season approaches, but with zero surveillance cameras to monitor human movement allows for a less safe stay. We do not suggest staying here until security and surveillance are improved immensely. Devamı

Traveling as a couple, we thought it would be fun to stay at a "theme" facility. The on-line photos and information gave the impression the resort's accommodations would be more that we actually found them to be. Our "pioneer room" was nothing more than a cabin with 1950's-style pinewood furniture, no view, and not much in terms of amenities. Overall, […] it was a disappointment and, when I asked to change our room, there was nothing else available. We did not eat there...again an unattractive restaurant and little help from staff. Had a better time downtown at a local pub. If anyone asks, I doubt I would recommend this resort. Devamı

The Madonna is all glitzed of from the early 60's , way over done and if your not in love with the color Pink , your in trouble. It is vary close to town but not walking distance.

Spent our 25th wedding anniversary... Was absolutely wonderful! Had dinner at the restaurant and was excellent, ordered champagne cake and it could not have been any better! We can really say we had the whole Madonna experience!

This place is AWESOME!!!!! We only spent on night, stayed in the "Starlite" room (which has a patio) and thoroughly enjoyed it. Had a nice early dinner at the bar and went to the spa for a massage the next morning - if you're staying anywhere near SLO, this is the place!

Great hotel for families. Cool room themes. Also fun for all ages! Unique experience - a must stay!

Good location and fun rooms with most amenitites. Could use a bit of updating...but confortable and fun stay! Worth the stay! Resturant is good!

This hotel is a wonderful, unique, well maintained gem. I wouldn't miss it! The heated pool and spa were exceptional. Truly a treasure!!!

I grew up in San Luis Obispo and the Madonna Inn was always considered to be the best of the best, as I recall. I never thought I would ever stay there, but I needed a hotel for a business trip and the Madonna Inn was one of the only hotels with a vacancy. I was pleasantly surprised to find the cost was in line with other hotels in the area. The room […] was lovely with unique little touches that made it special. I didn't have one of the "exotic" rooms, but my room still had a theme and it was charming! There didn't seem to be an elevator that I could find. My room was on the 3rd floor. But, my luggage wasn't extensive, so it worked ok. I was pleased to see that the hotel has been kept up and is in good repair. Devamı

This hotel is really really cool. I enjoyed the decor and the bar/restaurant. The service was good and the rooms were nice. I had a really good time buuut... My complaint is that the walls were paper thin, the pillow sucked, and there were no black out curtains. The blinds just did not cut it, they let in too much light. I could hear every word the […] people next door said. The pillows were hard. It was fun once but I would not stay again. I was able to get a good night's sleep but if you are sensative to these things you may want to reconsider. Devamı

I have heard of the Madonna Inn for years. I have even driven past it a few times on business travel. On a whim I recently stayed while traveling on a mixed business/holiday trip. I thought the hotel would be sort of a fun gimmick at best. Photo's of my room #181 were very curious but I was unconvinced. It exceeded my expectations in all ways. The […] room was vibrant but in real life the decoration "worked". The room was very clean with fresh and comfortable carpet, a fancy toilette, and nice shower. The details make the Inn NOT a novelty. The furniture comprised unique pieces of crafted wood. The paint and the numerous trims were in fine shape. The gardening was well maintained. The building construction was special. There are solid beams and columns of ornate wood. Rooms that have "boulders" are actually due to wall portions being made from boulders. It is not "Faux". A simple added touch that was appreciated....I was given a nice postcard depicting my room on checkout. If you like daring-different-fun stay here. I intend to return in the future for another stay and get one of the more premium rooms. My thanks to the Inn, staff, caretakers, and creators for a memorable stay. Devamı

Pros: Madonna Inn is unique and charming as expected. Exploring the hotel was fun and a tour in itself. The room was perfect for two adults and 2 not so young children, separated in two sleeping areas, roomy with a large sofa. It was generally clean except for the carpet which looked worn and had an old smell when we walked in the room. Cons: Scared […] by Hotel Security knocking on our door at 11:15 p.m. about a "noise" complaint in our room. We had checked in earlier that afternoon and the front desk staff was pleasant and efficient. After unpacking, we went out to San Luis and returned to our room around 10:45 p.m. from a Friday night dinner. Half of us were already in bed watching T.V. at a fairly low volume, talking in a normal tone as we were winding down. The room next door apparently complained about our "noise". When we called the front desk to ask why the guard had to disturb us when it was apparent just standing outside our non-soundproof door that there was not too much noise, the clerk told us to leave immediately if we weren't happy with the hotel policy. Fortunately, the front desk in the morning apologized for the night clerk's fatal customer service response and compensated us for breakfast. We've been to many hotels all over the country and never have the walls been so poorly insulated, even in much less pricier hotels. The "noise" problem was due to the paper thin walls which meant we heard every word our next door neighbor spoke. We had one of those rooms with an adjoining door to one side and even though the doors on both our sides were closed, we could still hear everything. Even in the bathroom, I heard a whole conversation in the next unit which is a little disgusting. If we were to stay there again, it would probably be in another type of room with no adjoining doors because we really liked the size and setup of the room. Devamı

The room TV was not working properly even after having a maintence man come look at it.

The Madonna inn has to be seen to be believed. It is crazy and totally over the top in decor but in general looks a bit tired. We stayed just one night as a stopover. The food in the restaurant is very good and the staff are very friendly. We stayed in the love birds room. It was very comfortable .

Everything was fabulous - from the heated toilet seats to the incredible hospitality, not to mention the "Chestnut Foal" horse themed room complete with carousel horse hanging fromt the ceiling! It was our anniversary and they gave us a complimentary bottle of champagne! We want to go back every year!

while the rooms are fun, the rest of the hotel is just a little bit too tacky and low budget. the cocktails at the bar were unacceptable - yet priced as if they were a high end lounge. we left after one drink. the cafe was equally as mediocre - and you can't really walk to anywhere else since it's a remote location. i would stay somewhere else. the […] rooms aren't that cool. We stayed at the Madonna Inn en-route to Yosemite national park. we had read about this place on a number of sites and just had to go. Glad we did. Set in a lovely location, plenty of space all around. All rooms are decorated differently, for example one room is called the african room and is decked out in tiger skins and all things african whilst another […] room has rocks as walls. the guest areas tend to be coloured pink or red with loads of nik naks everywhere to look out. It sounds gaudy but it works. The bar and restaurants can be expensive but if you are in the SLO area, pop in and take in the view Devamı

The property and room are very different. The shower was a cave and the room theme was "love birds." A very nice LARGE room. The bed was comfortable and the location was perfect for our needs. On the down side - very pricey room. We were put next to the vending/ice machines. There were two windows; one looked out to the side of the hill - just dirt, […] and the other looked to the stairs going upstairs and the vending machines. The machines were turned off during the dead of night, but if you wanted to go to bed early or sleep in your'e out of luck. We checked in early, around 3:30 PM and called the front desk immediately to ask for a quieter room but was told they were sold out and nothing else was available. We had a "standard" room, not one of the off-the-chart rooms. It was nice but ... dark. For us the bed was uncomfortably stiff but that's a personal choice. There was a rowdy bunch a few rooms down that made a racket into the wee hours of the morning--we think for a hotel in this price range that there'd be peace and quiet. We needed a weekend away from all the demands and stress of our lives and we got it! We thoroughly enjoyed a couples massage upon our arrival. All staff at the Hotel and the Spa were gracious and accommadating. We had a relaxing weekend away from the stresses of life. Just what we wanted.

We had the China Flower Room. The room was decorated nicely, and was very clean. We had people on each side of us, and could not hear any noise. The pool is awesome. Had a cocktail while enjoying a beautiful view of SLO. The food is excellent, and the pastries are fantastic. The ambiance is mysterious, and you find yourself asking about the history. […] The only minor issue was a noise in the attic above the bed that seemed to come from a possibly bad water pipe, and the bedspread had many stains with what appeared to be a red liquid. This Hotel is simply surreal. Until you visit you will never experience such an experience as some of the pictures do not do juctice. The rooms are very clean, tidy and fantastically designed. The pool and hot-tub was lovely and relaxing and the steak bar was wonderful, fab food and wonderful decor. This is a must for anyone on their way from San Fran/Carmel […] to LA. As a frequent traveler, especially for business, I am usually not fond of going off to another hotel during my down time. But the Madonna Inn is the exception to the rule, this is truly a great getaway. Forget the mundate hotel experience ... this is a trip into the realm of leaving it all behind. The service staff exceeded every 5 Star experience I've […] had. The rooms are unique to say the least ... but not at all "tired" as some of the reviews might have you believe. The upkeep seems to be spot on ... while leaving the original charm from the 50's and 60's intact. What really knocked me out was the steakhouse ... at first impression you are thinking cheesy kitsch. But all that goes away when you experience a terrific wine list, top notch service, and some of the best food on the planet. (Try the Stilton cheese on endive appetizer!). The steaks put all but the most prized restaurants to shame. They are that good. With the new conference facility on their attached ranch, I am seriously looking into booking an upcoming business conference there. The Madonna Inn gets my highest recommendation.
