Deer Haven Inn - Pacific Grove

I wasn't sure about this place at first. When I walked in to check in, the guy at the front desk just looked at me. No smile, no hi until I said "hi." I thought that was a bit odd, but I got checked in and had low expectations for what the room would be like. I was very pleasantly surprised to be blasted with the smell of fresh paint and new carpet […] when I entered my room. It was wonderful! Everything in the bathroom was new, we had a fireplace and nice heater that both worked. The room had new carpet and paint and fireplace mantel. I think it had been finished that day or the day before because part of the mantel still needed to be touched up. But that was fine with me...I'd rather have a slightly unfinished fireplace than an old yucky room. The served a continental breakfast in the lobby the next morning. It was okay but, again, the person working the desk (different guy) was unfriendly. But that didn't matter. The room was nice and clean and that made me very happy. Devamı

This place is very unique, Deer Haven. It's like a hidden jewel, not an easy place to find unless you know where you are going; I think it's a perfect place for a romantic getaway; we were there for our honeymoon. The only little problem was we had problem with our key after the first night, and there were a couple of guests there having the same problem. […] The biggest upside is the hardwood floor, YES. Nice people, nice room, but they're trying so hard to provide everything guests would want that they crammed in furniture that doesn't fit in a way that it's functional...example a sofa that you can't sit on one end because the night table is too close in front of it. The full length coffee table has to go next to the couch on the same wall (what's […] the point of having one?) because it doesn't fit in front of it. Because fireplaces were installed the tv (dated and smallish) is on a stand off to one side of it making it hard to see from the window side of the bed. LESS IS MORE sometimes. Reduce the furniture. Just a comfy chair or two would work better. Flat screen tv could hang above fireplace and save a lot of space, make viewing better. Devamı

Loved the location -- easy access to all the sights. The pictures of the inn made it appear to be in more of a garden setting; it was motel-like. Minor complaint: the shampoo dispenser in the shower had the conditioner and bodywash switched. Breakfast was makeshift and standing room only. This was a very quaint Hotel, a little out dated but I did enjoy the Fireplace in the room. It was close to where we wanted to go convient in and out and close to all surrounding sight seeing areas.

Not a good stay the first room we had smelled very strongly of paint then the next room was below par... Bathroom light didn't work and the rest of the room was just a dirty look to it all

Check in at 4:30 P.M. Office clerk busy with a box of fired chicken all over the desk. "Here's two keys; room's ready for your." The small room was freshly decorated with a fireplace but the two queen size beds left too little space for a family of four. No towels in room. Found laundry room and helped ourselves to a pile of unfolded towels. For the […] next three days the maid left only two towels, one face cloth and one hand-towel and a bath mat. Free Breakfast: only the crumbs remain after 8:00 A.M. Deer Haven is a choice location, clean and up-to date but the operating personnel show no skill or knowledge of how to operate what could be a nice vacation get-away. Not a good choice for a family. Quaint, quiet hotel. We loved the fireplace. Rooms were a bit outdated, but very clean and tidy.

The rooms were very run down and outdated. There were not enough choices for breakfast. When we returned to our room at 3pm it still hadn't been cleaned.

We enjoyed our stay at this quiet and cozy inn located in Pacific Grove. The rooms had recently been remodeled so they were updated, fresh & clean. Loved having a fireplace in our room! Great pricing and a free light continental breakfast.

If you like stained carpeting, a shower that is fine if you are no taller than four and a half feet, threadbare towels that belong in a rag pile, and a heater that wakes you up everytime it turns on then you will really like this place. The staff is helpful and friendly. We enjoyed our stay. The rooms could use some updating.

Great location and great price, but the room was musty smelling and smelled like dog. They have an open pet policy for an additional $25, but the rooms need to be aired out or febreezed especially after pets stay there.

It was not as described. The linen were extremely worned with holes. The door lock was broken, my husband had to wedge the door with a chair. We didnt get the King size bed as detailed on reservation. The contental breakfast was extremely lacking....both morning.

We are frequent visitors to Monterey (5-6 times a year) due to diving & hiking trips and we’ve stayed in many many higher end and lower budget hotels in the area. We checked into the hotel during a lot of construction work going on. Looks like they are remodeling the whole front section of rooms, luckily after 5 it’s very quiet. The outside of the hotel […] was very charming and well kept. Inside of the rooms however, not that great. Everything was very outdated and kind of clean. The bed was a whole different story! We found TONS of hairs in the bed. My husband said they looked like dog hairs, but we definitely found other “types” of human hair on the cover & main blanket….meaning to me that it hadn’t been washed. The sheets seemed to be hair free, but the top blankets were awful!! It definitely needs a lot of updating and cleaning. We will not be staying here again. Absolutely incredible neighborhood, close to the ocean, restaurant, lighthouse, but saving a money on this Inn doenst worth it at all. There is no hot water, so no hot shower in cold December wheather. it takes a while to warm a room. Not enough light in the room, one of two lamps did not work. Facility very old and in poor repair. View out our window was of a stack of a dozen toilets from the part of the facility being updated. Room not ready after mgr. had walked down to confirm it was ready, room key de-activated when we went for a morning walk.. Quiet hotel very close to beach and great walks and close enough but not too close to busy Monteray. There really are deer wandering the locatility. Suited us well for a few days on our family holiday.

I was there on a girls night to clear my head out as my son just left for basic training. The man in the office was very polite..My room on the other hand was gross. Window locks were all broken, beds were filthy and pillows were Ceres in someone's hair..long hair. Hair in shower....dirty walls...fingerprints everywhere. The carpet needed vacuuming […] and shampooing. This hotel was no better than the $49 Howard Johnson.I would only stay there if the room was cheaper than $40 a night. Location doesn't make up for an unclean room. My reserved room wasn't ready. So they gave me a room next to construction and loud Mariachi music playing. Very disappointed as the pictures show a clean room. Really...had stains on sheets..glad I brought my own...I was afraid to take my shoes off. Only thing great was the view and the fireplace that worked. Room smelled too! Toilet had not had a brush taken to it...had mold in it. I'm not a snob...but for same price I coulda stayed at Borgs or something cleaner. I give this peace 2outta 6 stars...below average. Maybe had I been given a clean room...I could have overlooked the broken locks on every window...which is a safety hazard. Didn't sleep well as I didn't feel safe in my room. Devamı

We were very pleased with the hotel except for the breakfast. It was very sparse and there was no place to sit down. We went out for breakfast after one attempt to eat breakfast there.

this motel is 1 bk from Asilomar state beach. Bring your bikes for a great ride over to cannery row.

Reasonably nice hotel in PG. Nothing fancy but reasonable price for a basic hotel. Next door to Asilomar, so convenient for good coffee and walks on the beach. Close to Fishwife restaurant too!

we spent one night here, but found a quite and peaceful location Just a short walk to the beach,which is great. It's a short drive to all the sights in Monterey. The start of the 17 mile is just around the corner.

This inn was really cute and not too far from Asilomar State Beach, which is a must see. Wifi and breakfast are complimentary and the rooms are a decent size. The fireplace in the room was fantastic and the neighborhood around is residential mostly so it was pretty quiet- one morning we saw deer across the street which was cool and definitely explains […] the inn's name. The service was personal and the beds were comfortably firm. The internet access through WiFi was too slow to be able to successfully fetch email on my iTouch device.

I visit Pacific Grove every year on a quarterly basis because I find that as a business woman, mother, wife, grandmother, etc, I need time to myself to recharge my battery. I like to stay somewhere quiet that is a close distance from the ocean because I love to take long walks during this time and be close to the sea shore. Deer Haven fits that criteria […] perfectly. I can have my privacy and seclusion as the surroundings are generally peaceful, and I also feel safe being that I'm staying by myself. Devamı

This is a very quaint motel with gas fireplaces in each room. It is situated in an upscale neighborhood, and the beach is very near with great views.

Upon arriving late in the evening, when handing over my credit card the desk clerk made some off-color remarks about my husband's alma mater. Upon entering room, it was extremely cold with poor heating in the bathroom and changing area. When my husband pulled down a towel to get out of the shower, a LARGE chunk of hair came out of it. Long and dark, […] while my husband is bald and I have short blonde hair. The sink would not plug and there was no facial tissue. The only redeeming quality was the fireplace was nice. Not a bad place, decent location depending on your activities and needs. Rooms are a little outdated and in need of new bedding materails; comforter outdated, rooms had a slight smell.. Fireplace a nice addition. Walls a little thin as we got to hear our neighbors fun at 2:00 in the morning. Breakfast needs a little sprucing.

this is a motel that is a bit above average. the rooms have a fireplace and are big. it is on a quiet street very close to the ocean. the bathroom is average, the bed somewhat saggy. i stay here a lot because i like the area and for the price i think this a good place..

The hotel was located 5 minutes from all the places we visited and the service was good. The room was clean but they we doing some remodling while we were there. Over all I would recommend this hotel

We just had very noisy neighbors the second and last night we stayed. The first night the electricity went out and people were yelling and the people on one side of us left. No one ever said what had happened but it wasn't the motels fault.

We had a power outage while we were there. It would have been nice to have a flashlight in the room.

Staff were very helpful.

Well, there is no doubt why this motel was named Deer Haven. The first thing we saw as we approached the property was a lone deer walking the neighborhood without a fear! The deer walk freely in the envoronment and it is quite lovely to see. The hotell room was perfect for a little stay. It is very close to the beach, downtown and the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Not worth the price. Poor room layout. Can't view TV. Must be directly in front of it. Bathroom needs work. Toilet rocks. Poor grade of towels. Bed is very comfortable. Pillows need replacement. Price should have been half of what we paid. It is a good location.. next visit we stay at a different place.
