Ocean Spray Hotel - Miami Beach

All the carpets in the hotel, including the ones in the romm, were extremely dirty. The walls were so thin that you could here everything. The doors closed so hard that all the room shaked every time someone arrived or left. You could also hear anyone walking in the room above you (the advantage of this is that if you stay in the first floor you can […] recieve free wifi from the lobby! jajaj). hotel lobby reeeeeks from the subway that's in the lobby. the lobby itself is tiny; i wouldn't even call it a lobby. rooms are small, but beds were comfortable and it was very clean. staff were all really sweet and accomodating. this hotel is really nothing fancy at all. it's just plain and simply a place to sleep and nothing more than that.

The price was right and the location close to the Fontaine Bleu and Eden Roc was good, but the hotel was shabby, the restaurant in the lobby is a Subway, the maid service was always late and incomplete and the front desk staff was unaccomodating. All of the above is tolerable for the price, but what was the most difficult was the lack of flexibility […] when I needed to check out a day early. Zero accomodation for the paying guest. Unfortunate location of a Subway outlet in the entrance foyer is not the best first impression one gets of the hotel. Not many restaurants in the area other than hotels. Parking can be a problem on local streets. Staff polite and obliging.

Fine - good low cost hotel in Miami Beach - location not central but rack of bikes for easy hire just around the corner - good place to stay

The lady on phone booking was rushing a lot as if it was the last best thing to happen. I was told about the water front room reservation and there was no intimation to the hotel, They were surprised when I asked them and I was dumped in a shady room. I was told about the high quality of the room and given a different picture of the image, It was nothing […] more than an ordinary motel. This is a great place to see Miami for a reasonable price. It's about 2 miles from South Beach, either a short cab ride or a beautiful walk. The hotel is clean. There is nothing luxury about it, but you can be on the beach in 2 minutes. The only problem is the lobby smells like Subway. Get a room on the top floor.

They took too long to have my room available, however service was good and the location was great.

I spent the night with a friend and gotta say it was very comfortable, no noises at all, everything clean and convenient.

Hotel was older and funky, but because our room was very clean and free of mold, I had no problem staying there. The mattress was very lumpy and my husband and I were sure that we'd have a miserable nights sleep but we were surprise and had a comfortable night. The only things we didn't care for: the smell of the Subway restaurant that's in the lobby […] is uninviting and the hallway to our room on the second floor was freezing! We've stayed in S Miami Beach many times before and didn't mind trying someplace different and further away. The beach is just across the street. Great boardwalk. Walked along until we reached the Four Points Hotel (about 1 block away) and had a nice buffet breakfast there. If you arrive before 5 pm you'll find metered parking on the same block as the hotel, which costs the same as the Parking Garage if it's overnight. Staff was friendly. We felt safe in this area. If you're looking for luxury, I wouldn't recommend the OceanSpray. If you're looking for basic comfort and a place to sleep and shower at a bargain price, this may suit you just fine. Devamı

Aside from the smell of Subway in the lobby and the elevator, the freezing temperature of the hallways, the bad quality of their WiFi internet connection, I think this hotel is worthwhile if you are looking for a decent accommodation in Miami Beach for a reasonable price. Okay, if you're the type that wants the best of everything and a large, spacious room, look elsewhere. But if you appreciate good value, a building with character and history, and a friendly staff (Becky and Mark really stood out in making me feel welcome), then put Ocean Spray on your list. Yes, the rooms are on the smallish size by today's standards. […] But I found my room to be entirely adequate for my needs, and my room at Ocean Spray included some items I very much appreciate that are actually not included in some nearby, very expensive, luxury hotels that cost 2-3 times as much: in-room coffee maker, ironing board and iron, tons of drawer space, refridgerator, etc. Other reviewers have complained about the smell of the Subway restaurant just off the main lobby. But I don't find that odour offensive and the prices, while slightly higher than other Subways, are VERY much a bargain for Miami Beach. I also appreciate some things that may not show up on most people's lists: a clean, nicely painted, well-lit stairwell which I made regular use of to stay in shape (and I was on the 7th floor). I also got lucky with a room which looked over the Miami skyline and provided some beautiful sunset views. There is no parking, but forget the rental car and arrive by MiamiDade Transit's Airport Flyer (Bus #150), which costs only $2.35 (have correct change, as the machine on the bus doesn't dispense change and you may not find the ticket machine handy in the airport bus centre). The bus stops a short block & a half away and returns to the airport from an equally close stop at Collins & 43rd. The trip only takes about 20 minutes and is another bargain. If I were rating Ocean Spray on value alone, I'd give it 5 stars. But using the traditional hotel-rating standards, it rates a solid 3. So come enjoy this character building and friendly staff and save your money! Devamı

Parking was terrible, they have no garage or parking lot. We drove around and around and with our patience and waiting we were able to get parking within a few steps from the hotel. We specifically chose an "ocean view". When we opened the room curtains all we saw was a palm tree and the very large buildings across the street that were blocking the […] ocean view. The staff was very friendly, the hotel art deco was cute. The best part was there was a Subway right in the hotel lobby! Devamı

This is the lowest cost hotel we could find along this Miami Beach strip, so we weren't expecting luxury. The room was very small and the building has some wear and tear. But in general, it was just fine. The hot water was hot, cold water cold, the TV and AC worked and the room was clean. The staff was very nice and even folded one my shirts while cleaning […] one day. What more could we ask for? The Subway in the front lobby was convenient for low cost healthy fast food. My only beef - the mattress was too firm for my wife, but any hotel anywhere could have this problem. Devamı

I really enjoyed my 3 night stay at the Ocean Spray. The room was updated and comfortable, modern style. The Subway adjacent to the lobby was convenient for a quick bite. Good value for the price I paid. The location was excellent, close to the boardwalk, the airport express bus and walking distance from many interesting places.

The hotel was very clean and comfortable, it was in a good location. We will stay there again.

The staff worked hard to overcome the inevitable obstacles that always seem to arise. Everyone from the room cleaners, the maintenance, and the front desk people were responsive to my needs and definitely enhanced my 8 day stay.

service staff were nice. hotel lobby and elevator smelled like subway because in fact there is a subway in the lobby. beding and chair in my were ripped, and there was a lot of constructions going on outside (banging, drilling, etc.) Luckily I was only there for 2 days, or else i think i would have got crazy. good thing is room was big and its within […] walking dictance of fountaine bleau and eden roc. My son had to be rescued from the lobby elevator (very old and slow) took 30 minutes for someone to show up. Cockroachs in lobby...

The hotel was nice. But it was far from everything.. We spent the night before on another hotel that was on washington ave and that was a good location. But the beach was few minutes away but there were no shops or restaurants there. All the places are like 2miles from there.

The only thing I recommend is getting microwaves in the rooms.....other then that everything was good and I would go there again and again.

It is a good hotel for this price but they don't have parking lot and the city is working on the street

Bed in Rm #504 was sunk in. Then we were moved to Rm #709 which bed was a little better not much different. I believe that the hotel should expend some money and replace their beds. Also rooms did not have microwave.

We'll I would say that this hotel is strategically located to the center part of Collins Ave. It is walking distance to the beach as well as many of the more expensive hotels. I will say that the Subway in the lobby for some reason had an average 1$ higher for just about everything which is unusual for a franchise. Overall a good stay

If I were twenty-something, with my buddies and just in Miami to party, this place would be fantastic. However, I'm a middle aged, single dad who came to Miami with his 3 year old daughter just to play in the sunshine and surf. Room was just above "hostel" level. Carpet looked like it hadn't been vacuumed in a year but the location was fantastic! No […] nice places to find food either...Plenty of places to find a six-pack though! Devamı

We booked just a run of the mill room for the weekend, nothing special. I would definitely stay here again. The only issue was the elevator. There was clearly a big orange sticker inside the elevator stating it was not up the code and should not be used until its certificate (or whatever it is called) was reissued. The staff seemed surprised when we […] asked about it as they said they had no knowledge of it, and clearly the elevator was still in use. We did not get stuck on it or anything, but it was still worrisome. Other than that, the staff was friendly and knowledgeable about the surrounding areas (places to go, things to do, cheapest ways to get around, etc), the room was clean, and somewhat small, but I did not expect a large room in such an old hotel. The hotel is a registered historical landmark in the city, and is very cute if you like older buildings. Devamı

I didn't realize how far the hotel was located from the "strip" on South Beach. Yes you have access to the beach across the street but its definitely the quieter section and again far from the bars, restaurants. Its about a $11 cab ride to the strip. The rooms are extremely small and so is the bathroom. The subway was convenient in the hotel lobby area […] but that whole area and elevator also smelled like the subway! I won't be eating there for a while now. Lastly, they only have one front office person there all day everyday! So if you need something its a hassel getting it done. The first night our toilet get clogged and the maintanence guy leaves at 5 so we had to pack up all our things again and switch rooms. Overall I would def not recommend the hotel. Its just not worth it. By the time you spend money on cabs you might as well stay somewhere off Ocean and be close by to everything! Devamı

Management messed up my reservation. Booked it the day that I reserved it, not the day I reserved it for. Took them an hour to find a room let alone check in time wasn't until 3 p.m. After giving me a room, their CC machine went down and proceeded to ask me for a cash deposit on the room. When I walked into the room it was tiny including the bathroom. […] Elevator had a big sign that says DID NOT PASS INSPECTION, DO NOT USE. only good thing was the location but even that was bad cause their was construction all around and getting their was a pain. Overall we really enjoyed the business trip to the Ocean Spray Hotel it's a unique art deco hotel right at Collins and 41st St. almost at the famous South Beach area. We fully enjoyed our stay there. As we were checking out I tried to tip one of the young bell hops and he wouldn’t take the tip which was very nice. 99% of the staff was very pleasant […] and accommodating. The only person that seemed out of place was the night clerk. She always seemed to be frowning and upset with the world which compared to all of the other staff seemed quite out of place. The only negative I can state is they should provide a few smoking rooms. There were quite a few guests, including us, smoking from time to time on the front patio of the hotel. I would think with so many of their guests being smokers they would provide accommodations for us. But again I will say the Ocean Spray Hotel is a very nice hotel. Devamı

No amenities, 1 slow elevator

Ok, so I booked this hotel, knowing exactly what to expect. The location is not bad and the hotel itself is not bad either. BUT I met 2 girls during the day and we decided to go back to the room for a couple hours. The girls left and I said goodbye. I came back to my hotel later that night to find my keys did not work. Then the 2 girls opened my hotel […] door and were in my hotel room at 6 a.m. When I asked how they got in the room, they told me that the front desk gave them 2 new keys without even knowing my name. All they gave the front desk was my hotel room #, that I know of. This obviously did not upset me at first until I checked out. The girls were smoking Hot but also smoking cigarettes, so when I checked out the hotel kept my deposit for a smoking cleaning fee! After I explained to them the situation they told me there is nothing they can do. I will never stay at this hotel again. If you decide to stay here please use your safe because anyone can get into your room. Devamı

When we checked in the front desk attendant made us put a $100 security deposit on our credit card. There was no notice of this ahead of time. The only elevator was slow and old. The room was tiny and had attempts of remodeling. The room was freezing when we arrived. Our attempt to heat the room was unsuccessful and a waste of time. Finally we notified […] the front desk about the temperature and they told us to come get a space heater. Seemed like no one except the front desk person spoke English. Housekeeping tried to kick us out our our room before check out time. We had to try to explain that we are not checking out yet. It was like 2 hours early. However, she did not understand much. Overall the location is too far north and I would stay closer to South Beach, more restaurants and things to do. Devamı

$30 parking and it's 2 blocks away. Nasty, It was so dirty I didn't even stay the whole visit. It smelt very bad also. I left the hotel early. I booked it for 2 nights and only stayed one. 1 elevator = took forever to get up and down. Lobby is open to the public since there is a subway in there .... and you get alot of odd people walking around […] there. BAD BAD service Charged extra for checking out early.
