Asilomar Conference Grounds - Pacific Grove

This place, with it's history and wonderful beach, was like spending time at a friend's home. The new Phoebe's was a great way to start the day with coffee in hand and sitting at a fire in the hearth. The employees were friendly. We would stay here again.

The location is beautiful, and the ocean view from our room was fantastic.

The hotel was OK but we did not get the handicapped room that we requested. The hotel brought in a handicapped frame to place over the toilet but the glass shower enclosure was difficult for me to use and there were no safety bars in the shower.

It was a lovely experience, and we would and have recommended it to anyone.The staff were very helpful and welcoming. Great breakfast !Lovely grounds, what else can I say.

Asilomar Conference Center has many attractive features: hotel & meeting rooms close to the ocean, well-maintained and beautiful grounds, etc. Our room was decent and did have free WiFi. But the refrigerator advertised simply as an amenity is not free. The quality of the food was ok but far below the prices charged.

I thought I reserved a room with two beds. But found ourselves in a room with one bed. We had to switch to another room- all the change caused us to have to cancel our dinner date with friends. Once we accepted the dinner on our own situation, we settled in and enjoyed our surroundings. The room was great, breakfast was more than anticipated. We have stayed at Asilomar many times. It is pretty bare bones and some rooms are a little too rustic, even for me who likes that sort of thing. No TV, nothing fancy, but comfortable and clean and beautiful architecture and grounds. One glitch this time was that we reserved through hotels(dot)com for two King rooms with fireplace. Asilomar has no king […] rooms with fireplaces and so we learned that what is promised by hotels(dot)com may not always be what you get. They had nothing at the price we were guaranteed except rooms with two single beds. We were able to negotiate with the manager to at least get two rooms with king beds at the same price since it was not our fault hotels(dot)com provided incorrect information. I have had good like with them in the past, so will still continue to use them for reservations. This was the first glitch and I would just suggest calling the hotel to confirm expectaitons prior to you stay. Otherwise, we had a wonderful stay. There is a great restaurant in walking distance that we discovered this time for the first time, Fishwife, and one about a mile up and around the corner on Forest, Vito's, that we've enjoyed in the past that is still excellent. Asilomar is a conference center owned by the state of California. It is absolutely gorgeous in every way--right on the beach, historic architecture, acres of forest, and a wonderful breakfast buffet included with your room. It is very close to Monterey and a wonderful base for the Monterey area. They did make a mistake on my room (one bed instead of […] two) and I was upgraded without charge. Next time I would stay more than one night. There are no phones or TV. Each building has a small number of rooms and a living room with fireplace and piano--fantastic for a wedding or family reunion. If you're not lucky enough to attend a conference at Asilomar--do it! If you are looking for a wonderful place to stay in a quiet neighborhood, next to a great beach and delicious food nearby--then book a stay here. Lovely ground to wander--nice footpaths to the beach (handicap friendly) and good views from our room in the Longview section. Walked to […] excellent dinner at Fishwife. Breakfast is a fun way to get to know folks who choose this as their destination, year after year. The accomodations are dated; however, the service, location and value cannot be beat on the Monterey Pennisula. The staff takes great care of you and you are only a 5 minute nature walk to the beach and ocean.

We enjoyed our 3 days at Asilomar very much. We had the historic rooms and they were very nice. It was peaceful and quiet. The breakfasts were magnificent!. The hotel staff was friendly and helpful. We took the free trolley into Monterey to see the Aquarium and were amazed that you could find that kind of travel for free. We ate at nearby resturants […] and walked to most things. Has 1930's camp atmosphere - lots of families - nice grounds walk to beach - 10 mins from Pacific Grove and 15 from Carmel. Rooms are large - but not modern and not well decorated - no TV (maybe that is a plus - and internet only at main lodge) - great weekend beach getaway if you are not expecting luxury - you cannot beat the location ...

A change to experience a unique lodging experience. HOWEVER, be aware that the walls are extremely thin and more than one of us guests were annoyed by the loud partying of the people next door. We just spent our first night at Asilomar and did not realize what we were getting into. We did not read the reviews carefully enough to realize that this is a series of cabins that have approximately 10 rooms with private baths. There are no TV's or frills to this place but the serenity of the park (this is a state park) is remarkable. The staff is […] very friendly, the food is above average for a continental breakfast. The pathway to the beach was wonderful. This would be a great place to host a reunion of any kind. There are also no telephones in each room. You get the feeling of Yosemite. There is plenty of free parking and quite accessible to your cabin. The drive to the Monterey Bay Aquarium is convenient and 10 minutes away. Devamı

The rate offered on hotels.com was very good, much less than the rate quoted by the management of the property on the phone. However, our room faced away from the ocean, and the breakfast was not at all as I remembered it from years past. Be sure to request the best room available because some of them are beautiful and others are only basic motel quality. This was very nice but don't expect luxury, it is a State Park. Spotlessly clean and well maintained no phones or TVs and WIFI is coming soon. Beautiful,natural grounds with a boardwalk through the dunes to the beach.

We just returned from a two night stay at the Asilomar Conference Grounds. Actually conference grounds doesn't really describe the property well. It is a series of historic buildings nestled in the confines of 107 acres of California State Park. Since it is a state owned and run property, rooms are no-frills, basic and could use some updating. Despite […] the lack of appeal to the rooms we did find them clean and would see attendants daily attending to rooms and keeping up the grounds. That said, if you chose to stay here based on the rooms (looking for luxurious accomodations) you will be very dissapointed. If you chose to stay here knowing you will spend very little time in your room because you are enjoying the splendor of the grounds you will see the magic and beauty in this resort and want to return again. In addition to the smaller lodges that dot the property there are also several "newer" buildings that offer more modern style rooms. Please keep in mind these are the rooms that in my opinion need some updating, but again are adequate and clean. The benefit of the newer units is the location and the fact that some face the ocean with a most incredible view if you leave your curtains open (it is a one story building with a walk way in front) or you can sit outside and enjoy the view from the front of the unit. My in-laws actually stayed in the historic lodge and again found the room older, but more charming since it was outfitted with period pieces, and an older style of furnishings. Be forewarned however if you are traveling as a couple and choose a single, double bed your room may be very tiny, as it was in their case. You may wish to opt for two doubles just to have a bit more elbow room. All beds are doubles so it is definately cozy, but some rooms will accomodate a roll away if needed. I think the best part of the grounds are in fact the grounds themselves. A beautiful wooden boardwalk paves the way to a short walk to the most remarkable beach. Deer, wildl Devamı

Asilomar Conference Center is run by the CA State Parks. It is a lovely area with lots of paved and boarded walkways. You can walk to the beach in 10 minutes from most buildings on the grounds. The meals at Crocker Hall are excellent. Lots of variety and the staff are friendly and helpful. We stayed in one of the "historic" buildings. They are old, […] rustic, and have a story about them; we find them charming. Asilomar will provide a bed for each person - twin or double. I'm not aware of queen or king beds being offered. If you are 2 people, be sure to ask for twin beds, your room will be slightly larger than if you got a double bed. Also, there are no phones or TVs in the rooms and the walls of the historic buildings are thin, so you can hear your neighbors, especially if they don't follow Asilormar's suggestion to be quiet after 10pm, If you want a modern, up-to-date, well maintained place to stay, do yourself a favor and book a room some place else. If you like historic, rustic and a location with incredible views and access to the beach, stay at Asilomar. This is our 4th stay at Asilomar and I can't image staying anywhere else. Devamı

When we booked the historic rooms at this hotel, we were under the impression that they would look like they are shown on the website; wood paneled walls, a nicely decorated room, and if we were lucky a fireplace. But instead we got a room that was white walls with scuffs all over them, some dinky furniture, and not much else. Granted, our room was […] one of the historic rooms from 1918 and was very large and had lots of windows looking out into a beautiful forested area with the ocean in the distance, but the decor of the room itself was just not inviting. Walking around the grounds is spectacular, and all of the buildings are beautiful though. A very short walk to a really nice section of beach too, plus lots of deer and other wildlife right outside your windows. Great location too (right at the entrance to the 17 mile drive and just a short drive to Cannery Row). Devamı

The location is absolutely beautiful! We loved the grounds too, This a very low-key place . The historic rooms are simple, yet comfortable. The only negative is there is no insulation, so we could hear everything in our 1st floor room ( people walking upstairs, running water, talking, etc.

Bathroom basin was almost fully clogged. Did not drain properly. Walls allow all noises/sounds to penetrate.

We really enjoyed being in nature, with the comfort of the conference center setting. Our room was very simple, but also spacious and very comfortable, with the most beautiful view of the nearby beach, trees and wildlife (birds, deer, raccoons were spotted from our window). A very relaxing place to rest and recharge. Pacific Grove is adjacent to Monterey, […] and shops and restaurants are just a few minutes away. I was surprised to see room availability at the Asilomar Conference Grounds, which I read is usually reserved for groups and corporate events. Our stay here was excellent - we had a room with an ocean view and stayed a five-minute walk from the beach. We stayed in one of the "Longviews" buildings, which was secluded without feeling out of the way. The […] best thing about our stay was that since the Conference Grounds are within the area of the State Park, it is a beautiful beach area without being crowded with large resorts and tourists, but still close enough to enjoy some of the amazing food in the downtown Pacific Grove area. The buildings are not resort-style luxurious, but shouldn't be considering the location. The architecture fits in with the surrounding environment beautifully - I would definitely recommend staying here. Devamı

I had never been to the Asilomar facilty. The acomodations were better than expected, staff friendly, and location superb so close to the beach. The registration desk needs upgrading--it took us too long to register. We would go there again and recommend it to people who love nature.

We liked it and enjoyed our one day stay.

Location, location, location - you can basically stop there. The "Standard" room comes withOUT: phone, coffee maker, coffee cups, tv (kids), color on walls (white - old), decent carpet (circa 1970's). I will never stay in this room option again. I thought my dorm room in college was better. Service and location are why to go.

No Tvs or radios in the rooms here (just in the central lodge) which makes one's stay very relaxing and a welcome change. All the staff are terrificly helpful and accommodating. The area in which the rooms are located is very pretty, and within walking distance to the beach. The place is more like a camping ground feeling, the rooms are old, no TV's or anything other then a bed, a toilet. We felt lucky to have had a blow dryer. The beds were not comfortable at all and the neighbor noise was bad. Parking is also very bad and […] you have to walk a distance to your room in the dark.
