Thunderbird Beach Resort - Treasure Island

Hotel was on the beach, typical hotel room - nothing special, but nothing wrong, either. Make sure you go to John's Pass to see the quaintness of the area. Comfortable enough, clean enough - would recommend.

The location was outstanding for this resort. The rooms however were very dated, moldy, and could use some updating. We loved the ease of walking to the beach. It's too bad the hotel has not kept up inside the rooms because this could be a fabulous place to stay for all!

If there were higher scores I would give them. The hotel staff was accurate with their recommendations on what to do. Enjoyed our stay every day !

We really enjoyed our stay at the Thunderbird, but I would not recommend this hotel to anyone under 30. It definitely caters to the retired crowd, which is great if you are over 50. Also, it appears that everyone from the guests, housekeeping, front desk, etc. smokes cigarettes so there is a lot of smoke around. Liked that it wasnt a huge place, smaller and quaint Staff was wonderful. Walking distance to everything.

Older, but clean and friendly place. I would suggest getting one of the few gulf front rooms. If you get a pool/courtyard room the gulf view is minimal.

I have stayed here before as a teenager and college student the place is a classic.

We stayed at the Thunderbird for the 2012 Trasure Island Kite Festival. What a beautiful sight with all the kites on such a beautiful beach. Our room was nice and we had no complaints. We will definitely return next year.

We had a great stay at the Thunderbird. I was impressed with the quality of the rooms for the cost. We have already dediced we are returning next year.

We loved this place! The price was reasonable and everything we needed to relax was right there...beautiful beach, pool, hot tub, tiki bar, live music, coffee shop. The staff was hard working and very friendly...room was spotless and large enough for our family. Easy parking, easy to find...we definitely want to go back!

Great hotel with a fantastic beach. Get a room with a view of the gulf and enjoy watching the sun going down.

We stayed for a couple of nights on the way home from Disney. Very relaxing location on the beach, our 5 yr old loved it. Courtyard with pool and Tiki bar very cute, bathrooms could use updating but rooms very comfortable and clean. The front desk staff were very courteous. We go to the Thunderbird on a regular basis weather permitting. The staff is extremely accomodating, they go out of there way to make sure your stay is a wonderful time. I forgot my cell phone charger at home, the front desk found one similar that I could use that was left behind by another guest. From the front desk at check-in, the housekeepers, the […] restauraunt, and Icki-Woo-Woo's tiki bar; it is a very pleasurable experience. We have made several new friends and hope to make many more. I loved that this hotel was directly on the beach. I was steps away from the luscious sand and gulf waters. The room was affordably priced for the location and amenities. I stayed in a poolside room efficiency with a kitchenette. It was great having a fridge, microwave, oven, and a two burner stove. The room was a little outdated but nice. The bathroom […] was really small for me and my roommate. The blinds in the kitchen were dirty and the outlets needed to be replaced. None of them had a 3 prong outlet. One if them did come equipped with an adapter to hook up your laptop. The tv was old and didn't offer many channels. Other than that the room was adequate with good amenities especially the kitchen was a big plus for those that can't afford out to eat for breakfast lunch and dinner. The pool and hot tub were nice too. Overall I would recommend it. Devamı

My husband and I go to a Rays game every year and we have always tried a different hotel. This particular hotel is within walking distance to Publix, ABC Liquor, fast food and Sloppy Joe's (very yummy). We did take a cab to the game, which was a very economical and wise idea. We did eat at the cafe for breakfast, which was good. We also enjoyed drinks […] at the Tiki bar upon arrival. The hospitality of everyone was like we visited all the time - as if we were friends. This is an older hotel and we were quite surprised at the cleanliness, updated appliances/electronics, great pool and spa, and a beautiful courtyard! You can't go wrong with any of the rooms because there are either views of the pool, courtyard or ocean. The prices were so great for what we got! I am a very nit-picky person when it comes to cleanliness, price and value so it was a nice surprise. Also, I have recently been worried about bed bugs - no worries here! We purchased some groceries at Publix and ABC to save a little money on going out to eat for every meal, so the fridge and microwave were very beneficial! There was also live entertainment every day that we were there - another nice plus. As opposed to our tradition of staying at a different hotel for every visit, we will come back to this one. A couple of other notes for dinner dining - stay away from Friendly Fisherman in Madeira Beach/Johns Pass - the seafood tasted awful. Johns Pass is a nice little shopping district with other restaurants, ice cream shops and a great view to see on the boardwalk. A MUST dinner dining restaurant is Keegan's Seafood Grille located on Indian Rocks Beach! The drive to it is quite nice, too. I hope this interview helps you in your travel destination/choices! I have stayed at other hotels in the area before and the Thunderbird ranks very low in my list. The room was confortable and somewhat clean, but outdated (tv, bathroom fixtures, etc). It was very noisy at night with kids playing next door and outside past 1:00 AM. I only stayed one night so I cannot say that I enjoyed it.

No flatscrren TV and bathrooms are not remodled fully but room was very clean. Pool had lots of kids in it thus it was very cloudy and had lots of sand. Bring your own drinks because bar was very expensive for drinks and were weak on alchohol in them.

Even though this hotel is a little older, it was well kept. The grounds were pretty. Carpet was a little worn but the room was clean. We loved being right on the beach. It was fun to have a tiki bar & live music in the evening as we watched the sun set. The cafe was convenient for breakfast since we were in a hurry the next morning, but it's within […] walking distance to lots of restaurants. I would go back again for a longer stay. Devamı

The location of the Thunderbird in is what makes it so attractive. It's right on the beach and within walking distance to several restaurants and shops. The staff was very great including the front desk, security, maintanence and housekeeping. The rooms were comfortable even with the tiny bathrooms. The TV was small and could use an upgrade. The live […] music and Tiki bar was nice and the grounds were well kept. Parking was a bit of a pain over the busy holiday weekend but the staff did what they could to help us find spots and keep trespassers away. Overall we had a great stay and would recommend the Thunderbird Resort to anyone looking for a nice beach resort on T.I. Devamı

Friendly staff. Parking is limited during spring break.

We are not smokers, but it seemed that all the guests smoked at the pool here. You couldn't go swimming without filling your lungs with second hand smoke. There were a ton of smokers here more than normal. The beach was great. The hotel room was gross and I am not going back to this hotel. It was rather expensive for the quality of the room.

We arrived to the hotel after a 22 hr car ride in from NY and our room wasn't ready 30 mins after listed check in time. Front desk clerk apologized and got us into another room instead right away. Within the first 15 mins of being here, my GF and I decided it was soo nice we wanted to stay a second night. Once again the front desk was very accommodating […] with us. We did have to switch rooms again ( no biggie) since we got moved closer to the pool and into a room with a kitchen. Lots to do within a short distance, if you don't mind a 1.5 mile walk to Maderia Island there is a ton more ( Parasailing, jetskiing, shopping). I did read some complaints on here about the distance to the ocean before booking, but honestly it isn't too far ( 250-300yrds). I have nothing negative to say at all and wish we could have stayed longer. Everyone including the room service staff was extremely friendly and honestly I feel this was a GREAT deal. The Thunderbird is an old-fashioned open-concept Florida beach resort (which is a type of hotel I prefer) that's obviously been renovated several times. It's a small, cozy hotel -- very basic, not fancy, but the location is fabulous -- within easy walking distance of everything one needs on Treasure Island. We only stayed for one night in the kitchenette/2 queen room. We truly enjoyed our short stay. We had a view of the pool & beach. Very close to a grocery store, restaurants, convenience/ drug stores & souvenier shops .Nice, clean accomodations. We noticed the kitchen had an adjoining door for the next room & plan on booking a trip with my brother & […] his wife. We'll make the next trip a longer one & will utilize the kitchen for a more inexpensive stay with home cooked meals. By the way, don't pass up the breakfast in the restaurant which is next to the front desk area. It was small, quiet & not busy, so we were a bit unsure of wether we should try it. The waitress was very polite, the service was super speedy & the food was fantastic. Perfectly cooked bacon, hot toast & eggs w/ a side of homecooked oatmeal for a super cheap price. Devamı

This review is overall a good-to-great with a couple exceptions. It's an older hotel so i wasn't sure what kind of condition it would be in. The rooms have been refurbed and they are nice. The beds are actually VERY comfortable. The bathrooms have some new features and some older features. They're pretty much like a bathroom you'd find in an older home, […] but were clean. There was a nice size compact fridge for your use which was handy. Here's the exception... We stayed on a thur-fri night and on Friday there was a party crowd at the hotel and it was loud right outside our door up until 2:00am. We were able to sleep through some of it but also some of it woke us up. Drunks screaming and hooting & hollering in the middle of the night is a little annoying for a family of 3 with a 5 year old. It would have been nice if the staff stepped in and told them to bring the volume down. But again, the hotel was nice and small and the beach is beautiful. Devamı

Was in the St Pete area for a week on family business, and having driven past the Thunderbird so many times, I finally booked a room there. I had an efficiency, a room with a good sized closet, a home-style bathroom and a kitchenette with stove, microwave and fridge; the bath and kitchen were small, but clean and functional. Overall cleanliness was […] very good throughout my stay. In the kitchenette there is a connecting door to the next room; this may be very handy for families or groups, but tends to let a lot of noise through as well. In fact noise is probably the only real negative, and it may only be an issue with the poolside rooms versus the beachfront ones. Other minor peeves: the TV is small, and there were few choices for grounded outlets to plug my laptop into (the wireless net worked very well). The hotel is located on a broad section of the beach, and there's a uniquely shaped Tbird pool too. A Tiki bar is open during daylight hours, and a small cafe is there as well. There's no comp breakfast, for those who care about such things; there are many places to eat up and down the beach if the cafe doesn't serve what you want. The staff is friendly and helpful. Next time I'm down there and have the time to kick back and do more beach stuff, I'll definitely go back to the TBird again. Devamı

Everything about the hotel, the staff, the service, my stay was fabulous. I am looking forward to staying again & bringing friends! The pool/tiki bar/band was a touch loud if you aren't expecting it. I personally was ok with it, but it may be described a little more on the advertising just to warn anyone that may not be interested in such a thing.

I would go back in a heartbeat, very good customer service, friendly atmosphere.

Great small hotel-convientent to lots of restuarants and shopping. Beach is huge with easy chair and cabana rentals. great little bar at pool with live music some days. would do it again...really fun and child friendly.

Although it is an old hotel, that is part of its charm. We had a great time here with our two kids. Beach access and the pool with tiki bar was a great combination. We plan to come back again.

... which was unexpectedly unexploited! Hotel was however in need of renovation especially kitchen and bathroom. Nice but small pool with tempered salt water and toys / floating devices for free use. Most rooms with "pool view" which meant that the one window was facing the outdoor isle where all guests passed by on their way to rooms/reception and/or […] pool/beach. No balcony.
