Lake San Marcos Resort - San Marcos

We loved the view of the lake out our back door and the room was very quiet. We had understood that we would have internet access in the room and it did not happen except for one 2 hour period with an otherwise useless cable.. No Wi-Fi in the rooms and it was very weak in the lobby - we could not get on it. The 3 computers in the "Business Center" were […] fairly new and internet access was great and fast in that room; however, that was the only business equipment there. We needed scanning and printing capability and had to go to Fed-EX-Kinkos. Devamı

Our experience was very good. We arrived late - had a pleasant nights sleep, enjoyable breakfast. I would stay there again. The staff was very pleasant. The hotel is quite old - but in good condition. We had a lake side room and it was lovely. No complaints. I would stay there again.

Plus: Comfy room and lovely view of the lake and birds. Nice people at the desk. Minus: Given key to a dirty room at first, cracking walkways, sceen door off the track. I love staying at San Marcos Lake Resort enough to overlook a few warts.

I really disappointed this hotel, how do get it three star. I don't recommend it. it also have wrong information for fitness facility on Hotel.com

The next time I stay here I would request the upper lake front room I could hear the noise from up stairs guest. That is the only negative. Other than that all was great!!!

A beautiful and relaxing setting...an incredible value. I was disappointed in the lighting....no good location in the room to sit and read a book because of it.

Very dirty, does't look like it has been vacuumed in a while. Shower & sink dirty. Bathroom floor disgusting. Bathroom cabinets are old and falling apart, the least they could do is have it clean. The outside is less than wonderfull, but when I got in I was very surprised and impressed with all of the amenities and service.

We had a room with the balcony facing the lake - which was great for watching beautiful birds in the morning. Would have liked to have stayed for a few more days to enjoy the area. The beds were comfortable and the staff was friendly and helpful. The breakfast was great - with waffles and a variety of cereal and yogurt. This was like a roadside truck stop type hotel in a low budget horror film. The facility was dirty, outdated and smelly. I was attending an event or I would have checked out. Of the thousands of nights I have spent in hotel rooms around the world, it was probably the worst place I have ever stayed. DO NOT SPEND A DIME TO STAY HERE.

I would stay again and again and would recommend this hotel to my friends. I especially was grateful for the courtesy and friendliness of the hotel staff esdpecially the checking in staff. Sister Margaret

Our stay in the resort was ok. Room was not resort quality,it was more like bed &breakfast but without breakfast. Bathroom was very small. Hairdryer & coffemaker was not working,but they replaced them.customer service was good. But I think in this price you can get more comfortable hotel. Area was safe & quite. They asked for a credit card to charge incidentals not telling me they would charge $100 dollars on it when in fact they charged $163 to it instead. Four months ago I was checked in when they new that the whole building was without A/C! Stupid me for thinking this was just a mistake.

I travel quite a bit, and stay at hotels all over the country. Suffice to say I am a bit of a cynic when it comes to lodging. So no, this place wasnt the Taj Mahal. But you know, it was quite nice. Lake-front room, easy access to the pool, and not a bad free breakfast selection. On top of all that was the staff, who were quite attentive and very kind. […] I dont say this often, but I plan to stay here again... Rock on! Devamı

TV in bedroom did not work. Shut bathroom door - towel rack fell off the wall. No toilet paper when I arrived. Delivered later. Room had a great view and was perfect for our golf groups hospitality room.

I went to Carlsbad to participate in a Seminar at Carlsbad Airport,I reserved a room at Lake San Marcos Resort,and after I did it I read very bad reviews.I became worry,but I thought it was too late to change anything.The check in at 7:00 PM could not be better(I rate as 5 Stars),I even was asked what floor I prefered,and requested if I have any concern […] about the room to make a phone call to the front desk.The rest of my stay was uneventualy(I stayed 2 nights).Very quiet location,plenty of parking spots.Brekfast O.K.Just the room need some upgrades like new carpets & courtains. this hotel is very quiet, nice and clean, and yes you have to pay resort fee, i will stay there again...

We needed a room near Legoland that would not be too costly. The room was nice and clean. It was older but the hotel had posted a sign that they were under new ownership and they are doing renovations. We had a lakeview room which was very nice. The staff was very nice and courteous. I would stay there again.

For my family, this hotel is very convenient, and we have, in fact, stayed here in year's past. This hotel is now, or will soon, undergo renovations -- our room was very clean; but the condition of the bathroom was disconcerning. The bed was comfortable, but I suggest a better quality of pillows. The view is fantastic, and so is the sunrise. It's the […] employees who helped make our stay so enjoyable. Overall, we'll stay here again. Please reconsider the idea of breaking away from the idea of a "resort". Devamı

Upon arrival, we were told they did not have the type of room we reserved available (2 queen bed), instead we got a single king with pullout couch bed. The room we had smelled like nasty body odor. It was filthy! I will never stay here again!

There were stains on the carpet on the bedding and the shower was so gross I never took my flip flops off.

This property needs a huge renovation. The room was so old looking (60's) and smell badly. Not clean at all. Staff were good.

Nice view of lake from 2nd floor room. Comfortable king size bed. Good breakfast included-could have included some eggs at the breakfast. Rooms need updating, and so does the building.

It's in a quiet area so it's a great location if you just want to relax. The room was much larger than expected, which was nice. They have continental breakfast in the morning, but if you don't get there early enough you will miss it because it's first come, first served. Night desk manager was awesome and friendly. Room was acceptable for the price, but stain on the carpet made me wonder about the cleanliness of the room. Nice location.

As I expected,it was right by the lake,I had a lake view as requested.The hotel should have more lighting around the entrance sign,because as we arrived at night it was dark and hard to see.The quietness and comfort of the place was great.As we took my son also he enjoyed the pool so it is o.k. for children too.Inside the room some repairs needed attention […] so I brought them us to the front desk person as I checked out.Other than that it was resting getaway for the Labor Day weekend and I will be back in future. For little more than the price of a M**** 6, I had a nice room 5 feet from the lake w/ the sound of ducks and geese. That was the first night! Unfortunately for me, the next night was VERY different. The usually quiet neighborhood of seniors was invaded by 6 drunken, marauding military punks (& their disgusting gals) that did NOT do their country proud. […] I watched them break tiles off the roof of the building while climbing on it, steal items from 5 different boats - then steal a boat for a drunken cruise where they ran into several other boats. I may be spoiled by different hotels and their standards, but would not stay in this hotel again for sure. Hotel is very nice on the picture, but not in the real live: AC not working (big no-no during hot summer), stained carpet. Even "Do Not Disturb" sign was missing, and we got twice woke up by cleaning lady. Next time we would go with trusted name, […] not pretty picture. Devamı

Very nice atmosphere

This resort is aged and has many areas for improvement - dry rot in the beams, stained older carpets and cupboards BUT it is comfortable and a lake view room has a wonderful breeze, sounds of ducks and geese frolicking and a neat view. We were told it is under new ownership and I would think that means new life (and $$$) will be injected into the property. […] The front desk employees were nice as were housekeeping staff. It was very close to our family wedding location and that's why I chose it. Solid 3 star. Liked "free" internet (wired in room, wi-fi in lobby), did not care for breakfast (no fruit, yogurt, hot food), liked free parking. Did not use the pool or facilities. We had booked a 2-night stay but left after one night. The air conditioning in our room did not work; front desk statements "turn it off and back on, it might work" as well as "they are coming to work on it again this afternoon" did not offfer much hope. A traveler in a different room had the same A/C problem plus his TV did not work. We overheard yet […] another traveler tell the front desk that he saw cockroaches in his room. The property has not been kept up to date or maintained, and as a result everything is worn and just plain tired out. While I hate to write such a negative review, it's important to let others know. One positive item was the room rate; the hotel is affordable if you can live with what I've described above. Devamı

Our sliding closet door was broken, but otherwise, this is a nice place. The pool was lovely and the location pretty good. Staff was great and rooms were clean. What more do you need?

Hotel has a convenient location, but other than that they really need to update the property to be considered a 3 star resort. No room service. Doors to your room are exposed to the street. Has a lake view with very old looking boats. Breakfast is horrible, unless you like hard small bagels with fruit loops and warm milk. Had to change rooms (no air conditioning), handles off closet doors exposing screws. TV remote did not work, and had to ask after working all day to have my room cleaned. If I had not booked through Hotel.com I would have left and asked for my money back.

Some rooms are ok...some are in poor condition (mold, wallpaper coming off).

and everything else is dirty- the toilet was clogged, their were rat traps. I just wanted to get out of there.

We were very unsatisfied with our hotel stay. We requested a non-smoking room and it was not. Smelled like smoke. We moved to a different room, it was better. We also called to get towels in our room and it took well over an hour to get them. Had to call twice to get them to bring the towels to our room. There was supposed to be complimentary breakfast […] and they ran out of bagels by 7:00 a.m. Breakfast was to be offered until 10:00. They ran out of many things, never had coffee the second day. It was the worst stay we have ever had. I would not recommend or stay at this hotel ever! Devamı
