TradeWinds Island Grand - St. Petersburg

We had a great time and may visit again!

We absolutely loved staying at the Trade Winds Island Grand. The staff are extremely professional and courteous. The resort is world class! We will definitely visit again!

The location directly on the beach is perfect. I did not like the pools or the lack of staff around the pools. The KONK Club which was the kids club was not impressive at all All the nickel and diming made the stay less relaxing but it was still all about the beach. The kids had a good time and thats all that matters.

Great spring break destination for the entire family - including teens! Loved sitting in a cabana out of the sun on the beach!

Nice, clean and great service!! Very family friendly. Will stay there again.

Checked in for 3 day weekend with my sweetheart for a couples get away. Staff accommodating. Very clever room arrangements. Our king size bed room could join a larger room which also joined another one. So a family could enjoy togetherness yet be able to close door for privacy. Very large facility with plenty of beach, pools (one for adults only) and […] kid oriented activities. Adult outdoor bars at night. With all this activity, we did not hear much noise in our room. Amazing beaches, amazing staff!!!! No lines for anything. Standard rooms are a little small but you don't spend much time there anyway! Parasailing on beach and all of the kids activities are great! Snappers restaurant was fantastic and the short drive to Clearwater takes an hour!!! Also don't waste your time or money on The Clearwater marine boat tour. We were told we would have a gulf view with a Balcony didn't get it ,it took 3calls and about An hour to get the right room and a lot of extra Walking ,on my foot with 4 fractured bones. Thanks a lot !

We stayed at the TradeWinds Resort last week and had a great great time. It was conveniently located along Gulf Blvd and close to I-275. It was an easy drive in from Tampa Airport. The hotel was great with many nice pools and activities. Our small suite had just been renovated and was very nice (we were likely the first people to stay in this room). […] Staff was VERY friendly and helpful. There were a lot of good dining options in the hotel and many good restaurants nearby, all the way up to John's Pass. The beach was very wide and clean. The cabanas were clean and in great shape. We didn't experience any of the negative things we read about in reviews we read prior to our trip. It was a neat mix of families or couples of all ages. Lots of happy faces at the resort so people were clearly having fun and no one was bored. Our family was Mom, Dad and two college age kids. There were a few corporate events too. Everyone seemed to mix just fine. We highly recommend this property and would like to visit again. Devamı

The facilities were wonderful and all staff helpful. I'd have given it all 5s, but a couple of days there was a problem with the hot water and water pressure was low. Also, the TV reception was bad. There were high winds when we got there, so I can understand bad dish reception then, but even when the wind quieted down, reception didn't improve much. […] A small thing when you have the Gulf right off your balcony, but a distraction for the limited times we watched. Large resort style hotel. Very friendly service. Had nice ground floor room that opened out to a patio and the beach. Comfortable room. Forget the breakfast buffet. very expensive and not very good. Didn't eat any other meals at the hotel. Beach is very nice. This is a convention hotel so there are a lot of people around. Sill. it was quiet enough.

Stayed for a romantic long weekend and had a wonderful stay. The Bartenders at Beef O'Brady's were fantastic. John and Will, a great entertaining combination. The pools were clean and comfortable. Nice resort in good location, but very family oriented with lots of kids. Good for a family. Not much to do at night and not a place for a couple who wants to be romantic. The bed mattress was uncomfortable. Hotel employees were very nice and accommodating.

Several Holiday Corporate Events were scheduled during my stay. The activities planned were noisy, drunken events. Other guests were disruptive and rude. The hotel staff asked us to leave the pool area so that the corporate event could have exclusive use of one of the pools

The beach there is beautiful but the hotel is a little dated. Everything closed very early. We wanted to stay on the beach longer but the staff took down our umbrella and chair cushions right at 5pm. Needs an update at the restaurants and the rooms but it was clean.

very nice place and friendly people. i would definately stay again. it is a family place with lots of kids and activiites for the kids but not much for the adults to do after bedtime. food and restaurants were great and close by on the grounds. the rooms were small but clean and remodeled with new bedding and such.

Activities for children way to expensive. Anything extra cost so much money. Will never go back again.

The hotel was under construction, so there was loud noise during breakfast each day. Also, the only option they seemed to offer was 2 double beds...no queen or king... Other than that, the stay was very relaxing, location was perfect, and we had a great time!

Where to start. The island grand resort isn't worth half the money you spend while your there. To start w our room was a ajoining room where the kids screamed all day and night. And no security didn't do much. And did I mention that our floor was under maintaince. So all day we got to listen to concrete being mixed and the smell of paint,did they mention […] that on there nice website? No. Oh and the fire alarms went off and being a firemen I wasn't worried but when people were asking hotel staff where to go and they didn't know,come on. And don't expect to get all the basic cable channels to watch tv at night,bc you won't. And don't expect a nice fresh made bed when you get back from the gym at noon,to make it clear I called three times for service and didn't get fresh sheets till 6pm. It did have its positives,like a bunch of pools and plenty of on site activties for kids and adults. I guess I just got a bad stay. Oh and don't go to the comedy club,its not worth the money. Devamı

Although I did not take my four legged baby, (“Cassie the Dog”) I was traveling with my adult children and husband. I would come back and bring her (“Cassie the Dog”) along, one of the best things about the hotel is the dog area. I booked a suite that is said to sleep 6, we were lucky to get 4 into this so called suite. Not what was expected based on the photos and reviews on line from the website. This is our second time staying at the Tradewinds Island Grand resort and we thoroughly enjoyed both. The beach is one of the best in the country so that makes for an awesome time for the family. Since it is also on the gulf coast of Florida - sunsets are fantastic. I would recommend going during the school year as some of the employees are summer employees […] and not very attentive. All of the career personnel are outstanding and promote the highest in customer service. The only complaint that I had during this past visit is that the resort was doing some room renovations so at least 1/4 to 1/3 of the rooms overlook a huge pile of construction/reno materials. This area is filled with a lot of motels and mom and pop type places so it's a bit difficult to find a good place to stay. This place is fine and I would recommend it (barely) to others that are traveling as a family with children. The good: 1) The hotel is right on the beach, and as a guest you are entitled to a few amenities that are included in […] the price of the room. 2) There are activities for kids (and adults) like a big water slide on the beach and an ocean obstacle course. 3) The staff was pretty friendly. 4) Basically everything you need is right at the resort - gifts shops, several restaurants at various price points. You could stay for days and not need to leave unless you want to do some sight seeing. The bad: 1) Our check-in was a nightmare. The lines to check in are very, very long (like a 20-30 minute wait) and the entire process is very disorganized. 2) The staff, while friendly, were way overworked. There were clearly not enough people working to handle the volume of guests. This is a HUGE resort but it was staffed like a regular hotel. 3) The room we had was pretty bad. It was clean, but the old fashioned AC wall unit was loud, making it very hard to get to sleep. The TV was an old 20 something inch CRT that barely worked. Mind you, we didn't watch TV all that much, but if you wanted to catch the news or weather at night - forget it, the TV was nearly unwatchable it was so fuzzy with squiggly lines throughout the picture. 4) The restaurants are extremely crowded. Again, this is a HUGE resort and they simply don't have enough eateries to manage the number of people. 5) A lot of the advertised amenities, like the mini-golf and the big chess board, are bunk. Yes, they exist but we saw no one using them and we certainly didn't - definitely not what they're cracked up to be. Pros: Sits right on top of the beach. Several pools. Various activities for kids/family (if the weather is nice). Cons: Aging building and rooms. Just about everything costs extra, even though they add an 'Amenity' charge to the room automatically to cover a couple of niceties, like paddleboats and use of the tennis courts, but also items that few […] hotels charge for, like parking, wireless internet. Fair-weather operations. We had the unfortunate timing of arriving during a couple of days of thunderstorms. The hotel doesn't understand that people have taken time off of work for a vacation, regardless of the weather. The rain had stopped, and plenty of people were at the pools and beach, but the towel hut was closed. The large inflatable waterslide was also down, as well as the paddleboats and the bungee trampolines. Basically if it is raining, you're on your own in the pool or on the beach. The pools are fairly small, but there are 5, including one just for adults. The only one under cover (not inside) is tiny. When the sun came out, most of these were operational and it was a lot closer to the advertisements. Except for the 'Splash Island' floating waterpark, which we never saw a hint of. The restaurants and bars are decent, but they are overpriced and really make you wish you were at an all-expenses-paid resort. Do NOT go for the breakfast buffet - it's the same stuff you get for free at other hotels, the buffet price doesn't include drinks, and it is naturally overpriced. Also, not sure how the restaurant near the pools/beach doesn't serve shrimp cocktail either... Watch the bill when you check out as well - they tried to charge us $120 for unreturned towels (3), which had been returned. The error was quickly corrected, but only because I noticed it. AVOID unless they fix these problems and/or lower the room charge significantly. I'll try another resort next time definitely. Devamı

The lobby is beautiful and the restaurants are very good. However, the hotel rooms need updating. In addition, each day from 9:30-5PM they were doing construction (loud drilling and banging all day) in our building. We found out the 2nd day we were there via a note in our room. If we had known they were going to be doing this, we would have stayed somewhere […] else. Requested early check-in. Got there at Noon and our room wasn't available. Got a call at 3:50PM that our room was ready - regular check-in is 4PM so it is clear they ignored our request. Devamı

Great concept, solid staff, but still working out the kinks such as: The long time lead hair dude has an attitude and changes the price depending on his mood. Resort fee doesn't include expensive beach activities for kids. non gulf view rooms overlook rusted roof The management made up for the issues but I wasn't happy with the hair salon staff

This hotel is a great place for families with small children. It has 4 pools, 3 of which have shallow access. Beach access is only a few steps away. The hotels has many fun activities throughout the day at the pools and centers. There is a wide variety of restaurants on site although they are as expensive as you would expect for a hotel on the beach. They […] also have a giant slide and a floating playground. Caution to readers that these require a very expensive additional payment. The hotel overall is old and needs to be upgraded. The rooms are simple and small and service is average at best. We still return each year and have a great time. If this hotel fits your budget and you have small children I would definitely recommend it. Devamı

The hotel offers a few pools which also includes a kiddy pool which is nice. A chair with cabana is included when you pay the resort fee. The hotel was nicely laid out however it was not cleaned very well. The floors were extremly dirty. The restaurants are mostly overpriced and just ok quality. Beach location is great. View from room wonderful. Staff not overly friendly, as a guest when you are walking the property they will expect you to go arround them. Room sliding glass door leaked, was told that during storms that is expected. No hot water first day, plenty therafter. Air conditioner did not keep room cool. Was told to call front desk […] and they would be right there, right at midnight, I need maintenance in our room. Stayed at the other property, Sandpiper, and found it better, same company, but less in price, and more in service. Devamı

Overall this is a very nice hotel with lots of things to do. With a variety of restaurants on the grounds we didn't even have to leave to go out to dinner, except to meet friends in Tampa one evening. The staff was profesional and responsive to our requests. The only problems encountered were that a couple of the towels in our bathroom were not clean, […] and the hallway in our hotel was very humid and poorly airconditioned, although the room itself was fine. The location and cleanliness is great. It's right on the beach and the rooms are comfortable and clean. From the moment we arrived and throughout our stay it was a rat race! It was packed and we had to wait a long time in the check in line and to top it all off, our room wasn't ready for one and half hours after we arrived. They told us we could drive […] around town or enjoy the resort. We had been on the road for 12 hours and just wanted to unpack and relax! We hauled our motorcycle with us on a small trailer and pulled it with our small truck (all of which would fit in two parking spots). They told us we couldn't keep the trailer and motorcycle there and gave us a map and directions to a place nearly 10 miles away where we had to pay a $10.00 parking fee. When we were ready to leave, we had to stand in line for nearly 10 minutes before we could check out. The whole place was extremely packed and not enjoyable because of the volume of people there. I had never been to a resort style hotel before and I probably wont try again. We definitely will not stay there again. Devamı

We had a great time--lots of activities for kids--the Splash Island was a real treat, and so was the big slide on the beach. Great for families--we noticed there were "adults only"areas, so I'm guessing it's great for singles, too!

Had a weekend getaway with my sister and we had a great stay at the Tradewinds. Room was beautiful and a the staff was very courteous. This hotel is run very well.

This is the most fantastic hotel on St. Pete's Beach. This was our first visit to SPB and I was nervous about picking a place to stay. Especially traveling with 2 teenagers and one of them had a birthday while we were staying here. This hotel has everything! Huge rooms. Fantastic beach. Tons of things for kids and teens to do. There is an inflatable […] waterpark in the ocean, a giant inflatable water slide on the beach. Paddle boats on a little stream that goes around the hotel. Putt putt golf. Multiple swimming pools. There are tons of great seating on the beach and around the pools. You won't have to bring your own chair or worry about getting a place to sit or lay out. They have good restaurants on the premiss including a Pizza Hut for those on the run. There was also a nice restaurant, a sports bar and something out on the beach. My kids went parasailing and jet ski riding right on the beach. The restaurants in the area were only so-so so just eat at the hotel. We did eat at an IHOP just down the road one morning. This is one of the best places we've ever stayed and will definitely come back. If I had to think of a negative it would be that parking can be a walk. No problem if you don't leave the hotel though. Also I didn't like their laundry facilities. Took forever and one dryer was broken. Just don't plan to do laundry and you are in for a fantastic vacation! Oh, the staff here was great! We stayed in the Brackenridge Building which was very nice. We were on the 6th floor and always got the elevator immediately...never had to wait for it! The beds were VERY comfortable and the rooms were very clean. My son wants to come back next year with all his siblings and their families. We had a great time and it was convenient to everything. We […] ate breakfast in our building @the restaurant everyday and the staff was wonderful. The were great with my granddaughter who is two years old. So much to do at the hotel for kids which is very nice. We enjoyed the movie one night at the pool...(The Bees). My neighbor and her relatives stayed here two years ago and still talk about it! The Tradewinds is not impressive as you pull into the drive, but beyond the lush landscaping is a beautiful resort with upscale amenities. We arrived prior to check-in time, so our room was not yet ready but we were given temporary passes to use the amenities. The resort is large and hosts an adult pool, a shaded pool 2 other pools and at least 3 hot […] tubs. Cabanas and beach towels are complimentary. There are at least 3 restaurants of varying levels of formality, a Tiki Bar and a pizza and ice cream kiosk. There are several complimentary activities and lots of activities available for additional charges. There was plenty of activities for children. The room was clean and updated, with a kitchen area of a sink, microwave and refrigerator. There is a spa onsite. The beach and resort are clean, and the staff was friendly, approachable and professional. There are restaurants, gas stations and a grocery store near the resort. Tradewinds offered a great experience for my family. The only warnings to offer are that there is a resort fee tacked onto the room rate that doesn't appear to offer much in the way of value; and, local residents can use the pools and resort amenities and some demonstrated drunken behavior and disregard for hotel guests.
