Holua Resort at the Mauna Loa Village - Kailua-Kona

Very spacious, clean, great value - air conditioning lacking on the ground floor, beds a little soft for my liking.

this was a large condo with more then enough space for us and are 3 kids 8 pools with 1 close to every 4 condos the pool where we stayed at was just outside of are masterbedroom sliding doors.there is lots of parking at the parking garage they give you a ride on a golf cart and the staff was friendly enough to carry are bags inside.the kitchen has everything […] you need coffee maker microwave toaster dishwasher downstairs where the bedrooms are located there is a washer and dryer and they even include the laundry soap towels and pool towels. i would love to come back to this island with more family and we will be booking here again there is just to much to list we where very happy staying here Devamı

I was very pleased with our stay here. Really happy we found this option! I do think this is the best price to value ratio you can find in Kona. We were married couple with kid and parents, so got a two bedroom condo. It was perfect. The property does NOT have ocean access. We would not have stayed here more than two days.

I was surprised that this is a Shell Vacation resort. Grounds are well manicured. Lots of excellent tennis courts. Nice to have underground parking but it's a ways from parking to some units. I had to have a bell person help me with bags given the distance from parking to my second-floor unit. A better property if one is staying a few days rather than […] moving day-to-day. Almost dont want to tell anyone about this great find.Its a timeshare condo on the golfcourse a fair ways away from Kona itself. There is a grocery store nearby and restaurants so its not like your in the boonies. We stayed at Holua Resort for 5 nights. It was spacious and very comfortable. It does not have a private beach, but the surrounding neighborhood is quiet being away from busy Kona. You wake up and hear a lot of birds singing outside. Also, it is convenient with a supermarket and a couple nice restaurants at the shopping center close to the resort.

We booked a 1 bedroom and got upgradet to a 2 bedroom 2 1/2 bathroom. Spacious and clean and soo quiet! The price is right and the staff tries to help you out in every way possible. We enjoyed every minute and we'll return for sure!

We booked one bedroom on garden view but we were upgraded to two bedrooms with ocean view with no extra charge (off season). The location is some what away from the center of Kona but that's what we liked. No busy traffic. The room needs some plumbing fixing done, i.e. bathroom faucet dripping and toilet bowl tank not shutting off after flushing. Each […] time we flush the toilet we have to open the tank to close the valve. There is no direct access to beach, you have to drive, so this may be a problem with kids. They have 8 pools and hot tubs instead of beach access. Fully staffed kitchen was also great. We stocked up with food. The staff at the hotel were very friendly and cordial. The place was amazing, I am sad to say that we only could stay one night because of our plans we made to go camping with friends. When we go back to the Big Island of Hawaii we will stay for at least two nights. The hotel is very affordable and 1500sqft with a kitchen and amazing lanai to watch the birds play in the water and enjoy the fresh air. The […] hotel personel were extremely friendly and very generous. We arrived 6hrs early till check in time (which is 4pm) they offered us towels to enjoy 1 of the 8 pools they have until our room was ready which they had available at 1pm. The market and restaurants are fairly close to the hotel whichs makes it convent if you chose not to rent a car. We rate this place a must stay and give it 5*'s. One last thing, the service and friendliness of the staff is 100x's better than Oahu. Devamı

A very nice place to stay, clean, comfortable and the staff was very helpful. I will definitely go back and this is where I will stay.

The condos are very large and exceeded our expectations. They were fairly new and very clean. Our only complaint is that the check in was late (after 4pm) and their check out was early (10am) and they have very few late check out "spots" and limited flexability in that policy. I loved this place. The gardens are beautiful. The air is sweet with the scent of plumeria and ginger. There are fountains and manmade waterfalls and ponds. The landscape architect was a genius. It is so immaculate they don't even have fallen leaves on perfectly cut grass. There is tennis and swimming pools. Golf course is nex t door. A shopping center […] and grocery store are nearby. The employees and staff were friendly and helpful. The rooms were so pretty that I could easily live there, and you can cook and wash clothes. The only downside is there is no ocean access, but the Pacific was too cool and rough for me anyhow. I would definitely return.Great place at a great price. Devamı

The Holua Resort is a great deal for families who want to save a bit a money and have the convenience of a kitchen and washer/dryer. Beautiful grounds and staff was very friendly. Would definitely stay here again.

What a treasure! I booked this online never being to Hawaii. This was a wonderful resort and a perfect location to base from to explore the Big Island. Shopping is close, so filling the full sized frig was a snap. Local restaurants were terrific when eating in got tiresome. The resort had great pools, tennis courts and the staff was top notch. We got a very good rate compared to other hotels in the area and ended up being upgraded from the basic one bedroom unit to a two bedroom unit at no charge. The room was spacious. A full two-story condo with all the amenities of home and eight pools on the grounds. We were very happy with the quality of the facility at a very low price. We were pleasantly surprised by the quality furnishings and amenities. Huge living room plus bedroom, & kitchen. Loved the home theater sound system and the pool. Only downsides were the slightly loud air-conditioning (but quieter that what is in most hotels) and the parking being a good walk from the room. We only stayed one night; extending our 'Big Island' vacation. Our flight scheduled to leave at noon was delayed for 7 hours. The staff at the Holua couldn't have been more helpful. They allowed us to use the tennis courts and gave us towels to use the pool and the changing room. What ALOHA service!! Thanks again....

This hotel is used to be a condo so it offers bigger room than the usual hotels. We got a one bed room and it has a large living room. It also comes with a full kitchen and washer/dryer which are very convenient for travelers. I wish I had booked a longer stay here. I will next time if I go back to Big Island.

I can't say too many positive things about this place. The grounds that it lies on are beautifully maintained, the rooms are very clean, the decor is tasteful and pleasant, there are all the amenities you'd expect, the employees were all very polite and helpful.... I've stayed here twice now (5 years apart) and both times I was blown away by how awesome […] this place is. We had the chance to stay at all three Shell Vacation properties on the Big Island (not intentionally) -the Kona Coast Resort, the Paniolo Greens Resort & the Holua. In our opinion, it was by far the best property. The unit we stayed in was airy, clean and cheery. The kitchen was clean with new appliances and well stocked with essential tools, dishes, […] cookware, etc. The grounds were immacuate, and there were a great number of smaller pools and gas BBQs for guests to use. The staff were friendly & we attended their hosted welcome reception with appetizers, drinks and a cute hula show performed by local children. Be aware they will put a hold of $20/nt on your debit card - I stayed there a week ago and they still have not released the funds back to me. They offer a discount book for guests to enjoy at local restaurants, etc. If you are staying in Kona, this is the BEST property to stay at - AVOID the Kona Coast Resort. That property is old, run down, and had bizarre surcharges and rules, including an extra $5/nt air conditioning charge and they provided shampoo and lotion only if you call ahead to request it. The person who answered the phone said they only provided such items "since some guests aren't using the products and will just take them home." Wow - even the Motel 6 provides these basics, and who cares if the guests use them or take them home? We waited for nearly an hour for the toiletries to arrive - only to find the conditioner half empty (I'm fine with re-using the bottles for eco-friendly reasons, but can you at least fill them up all the way?!)and the lotion expired (watery with a strange smell). There was rust on the fridge and the carpet was damp. We regretted not booking our final night at Holua - it was unbelieveable that Shell Vacation could run both the Kona Coast Resort and Holua Resort with such a difference in upkeep and policies. Excellent place to stay - large, spacious units - VERY CLEAN - lots of privacy - each unit has an upper deck to sit out in the sun and several pools scattered throughout so not a lot of people at each one. Pool area also has jacuzzis. Beautiful grounds with pathways to walk to front desk and parking lot for your car - no charge to park your car either. […] We had a two-bedroom unit with a king bed in one and two twin beds in the other - each with their own full bathroom. The livingroom has a guest bathroom - full kitchen, TV in livingroom, and each bedroom. Each bedroom has a sliding door to the outside - we were right by the pool, so it was very convenient. Devamı

Our stay in Kona was very brief, but I would definitely return and stay at the Holua Resort. The 2-bedroom apartment was HUGE--it seemed like it would be perfect to be there with a family for a week or more. The tennis courts looked very inviting, and the property was well-maintained and convenient. The condo we stayed in was huge--great for a family of 5. There were plenty of towels, both for the room and for the beach. Lots of hot water. It was perfect for our family.

This was an absolutely beautiful property. We only wished it was a little closer to where everything was happening. Parking in town is at a preminum but we really didn't have any problems enjoying everything. Three days was not enough to really enjoy everything on the wonderful Big Island. Next time it will be at least a week.

The Grounds are in excellent condition, and the grounds keepers are professionals who seem to take their work seriously. The quality of work by housekeeping staff for our unit impressed me similarly. Housekeeping intervals however, were too lengthy - three days for service. Pleasant rooms. No radio or cd player. (Clock radio in bedrooms.) The kitchenware […] was in some cases of poor quality and worn to the extent of warranting replacement. Some Individuals of the desk staff did not seem sincere in manner, were subtly passive aggressive, and were strangely off-putting to this thin skinned reviewer, making minor,but inappropriate and odd comments. The unit was one of very few conveniently located to the parking, so that was a relief. At first, we were very pleased with the spacious feeling of the condo. Everything you could think of was already there, from laundry soap for the stackable washer/dryer to serious kitchen toys. For the first few days, the maid service was impeccable. Sadly, the […] head of our bed was against the corner with the compressor unit for the building. It went off every 20 or 30 minutes all night. Once I *got* to sleep I could ignore it, but getting to sleep was difficult a couple of nights. About halfway through our week there, the maid service all but stopped. One day, the bathroom was done, but nothing else. The next, the bed was made, but nothing else was done. One day they skipped us altogether. They also fumigated the unit one of the days we were there. The lighting, for some reason, is completely insufficient in the diningroom. You can't read anything at the table once the sun is down. The hotel is about a 20 minute drive south of the touristy part of Kona. Given that the beaches we wanted were north of Kona, this was not a good choice of location for us. Had I realized that it would take 45 to 90 minutes *one way* to Hapuna Beach, I would have booked a different hotel. Oh, and the concierge will try to get you to go to a time-share sales presentation. Devamı

Room and gardens were very nice. The main distraction is that I had a first floor room and you could hear normal walking from room above. Made it difficult to sleep.

My husband and two children,ages 9 and 13 stayed for a week. Our accomodations were better than expected. Loved the washer/dryer in the room. I could pack less and easily throw a load in from time to time. The girls loved swimming in a different pool everynight. The resort is close to Kona and central point if you're traveling up and down the west […] coast of Big Island. There is a movie theater, grocery store and drug store very nearby. There was lots of space in the room. Loved the two floor layout. Adults could be up early having coffee while the kid slept downstairs. Hotel provides room towels and pool towels. Also movies for rent as well as beach gear (chairs, umbrellas, etc.) We thought they'd clean our room (make beds) so it was disappointing to come home and not see the beds made. But staff was friendly and always willing to bring fresh towels or whatever we needed. Just ask about cleaning services ahead of time so you're not disappointed. Just know there is no waterfront. But we had a gorgeous ocean view. A great family hang out. We'd stay there again. Devamı

This place is in the southern portion of Kona, close to shopping and the beach. Very clean hotel, with friendly and helpful stuff. Eight well maintained swimming pools and tennis courts complex is a big add to the overall value of this resort.

Condo with full kitchen and space vs just a hotel room. It was good, not great. I am a single male traveler and found the kids and family thing a bit much at times, especially at the pools. Overall decent place and definitely better than a hotel. i guess my question is why would anyone want to travel to this destination anyway?! It is full of volcanic […] smoke, no sunshine & the town is really having the #$@ beat out of it by the recession. Kinda sad... Devamı

This hotel was clean. The hotel staff was friendly. It was very spacious, and the kitchen was very convenient. You must have a rental car to stay at this place. I will be returning. :)

Condo was beautiful. Beds were very comfortable. Enjoyed our stay. Our only issue was there were no roll-away cribs available for our babies and there was no baby gate available for the stairs(our room was a townhome style).

Always stay here, a great place.

No complaints as a resort -- one of the best things was that there are several pools, not just one big one. We stayed just for one night and overall would have been better for at least two or three.

This is MUCH more than just a hotel. - You get a full 2-story townhouse in top condition. Amazing!

This condo was close to Kona with great basic necessities but no frills here. Furniture was "Roomstore" quality. We swam with the manta rays and went snorkeling at a great beach nearby. Just beware that you might get a timeshare solicitation here.

We just completed a two week stay at the Holua Resort. We were very happy with the large, well appointed and outfitted accomodations, helpful staff, beautiful grounds and great location next to Keauhou Bay. It is mentioned in other reviews that the parking can be a long way from the room, which is true, but you can always have a staff person transport […] you anywhere on site in their large golf carts. I do have two items to note that you should be aware of. One is that only a few of the rooms have any kind of ocean view. Most either face each other or the golf course. Secondly, during the time that we were at the resort, the pools, which are rather small by resort standards, had murky looking water that was too warm or inviting to enjoy. That said, if you are not planning on spending your time at the pool, then the accommodations are very nice and make a great base for exploring the island. Devamı

The Holua Resort was a wonderful surprise. We had all of the advantages of a condo, with lots of space and a beautiful kitchen, but with the added advantage of having weekly maid service. The staff were very friendly, and lots of activities were made available. The resort was quite aways from any local fanfare, other than a dolphin watch and snorkel trip (which we did and was great). They offered many tennis courts and 8 pools and hot tubs. The hot tubs were luke warm, and most of the pools were clean. They keep the grounds immaculate, but most of the day you listen to trimmers, mowers or blowers. The internet […] is only good for one connection per room, and we had alot of difficulty connecting. It was pretty unreliable until you got hooked up, and the next time was another trial. We had to attend a time share presentation, but the end result was a savings of almost $800 on the activities we booked throught the concereige. The rooms were large and comfortable. There were 4 televisions, an equipped kitchen and the best, a washer and dryer in the room to do our own laundry. Overall, it was a very nice room, not much for activities other than the pool, tennis and T.V. unless you travel. Devamı
