Tortworth Court Four Pillars Hotel - Wotton-under-Edge

Fantastic hotel and great staff service. Quiet and beautiful location but only about 3 miles from M5 junction. Our room was just ok but we were probably unlucky. It had a cracked sink and was dark. It would not put me off going again. I would strongly recommend this hotel

fantastic - relaxing and just what was needed. Note: The Spa Sauna and Steam rooms are up some stairs away from the Pool - but other than that everything else wil exceed expectations

Tortworth Court Four Pillars Hotel Easy and close access from the M5. Beautiful gardens and setting, amazing castle. Pleasant staff. Good dinner. Breakfast buffet good but people have to queue to get their English breakfast . Maybe too many rooms and going to your bedroom may feel like you are going through a rabbit warren.

Starting from the moment we entered the hotel, we only had pleasant experiences. The architecture was stunning, so was attention to detail. Staff was extremely helpful. We have even given an opportunity to see areas of special interest to take photos. The Spa treatments at the hotel was relaxing. Swimming Pool is good size. The availability of Jakuzzi […] and Sauna/Steam Room was great. The restaurant food was a little bit overpriced but the quality of food was worth it. I have stayed here on several occasions for an overnight stop whilst on business and each time it has been a very pleasant experience. Very efficient reception, dinner either in the main restaurant or bar has been very good and served without delay. Nice setting. interesting that a prison is next door. great grounds. our bed was as hard as a rock. main restaurant was shut for refurb. not warned about this breakfast was more than ample and hot. but evening food very disapointing. I would guess it all came from a freezer. not what we expected at all. after all it's a four star hotel. so very disapointed […] with food. Devamı

We had a short stay for 1 night and we drove from north London so it was a long way....... However we found it very very relaxing especially the spa.

Incredible surroundings in main building, otherwise rooms ***-level. Nothing special in good or bad. Didn't have time to check out the spa. Breakfast was good and once again, entrance has serous wow-effect!

Great setting in pretty garden and grounds. Grandeur and pretty setting though fairly standard breakfast and rooms with not much character given the building. Overall a very good place to stay even enjoyed a good swim before breakfast in the morning.

Lovely hotel in beautiful grounds, and reasonably priced. Good breakfast. Unfortunately didn't have time to make use of leisure facilities. Only downside was that our room must have been newly decorated as it smelt of paint.

Good quality hotel, would stay again. Only thing that let the hotel down was quality of food in the Atrium. It was quite bland and prawns were not soft but like rubber

This is a huge 19th c building that was recently renovated. The architecture is amazing, but the rooms & service don't measure up to the building itself. We called room service & the front desk 3 times, and the phone was never answered! It looked like the cost of renovating the bldg. was more than expected, because the room we stayed in only had primer […] on the walls - no paint! The two double beds on casters were too big for the space because you had to sqeeze between the bed and the wall to get to the alcove with the desk. For those who like to shower, the shower/tub was dangerous. The bottom was narrow and the sides sloped up, so it was easy to loose your footing. Only one small window in the room which made it quite dark. The hall carpeting was dirty, and the walls needed painting. The breakfast was good, but the service was not. There was adequate staff, but they seemed very inexperienced. The dining room was this wonderful massive room with huge bay windows, and floor to ceiling Victorian bookshelves. Really wonderful! The background music should have been something classical. The music during dinner and for each of the two breakfasts was1960's rock -- Petula Clark, The Beach Boys, etc. It was so bad, it was almost funny. It was also surrounded by a prison facility. My stay was pleasant, helped by the excellent service from the staff. I got the feeling that more care and money had been spent on the public rooms than on the bedrooms. The bed was past its sell by date and the room rather small. I was also disturbed by the generator below the window. The meals were good and the pool etc very pleasant. The hotel itself is very grand. It was pleasant, cheerful and had a comforting atmosphere, with plenty of parking outside. The general areas of the hotel were clean and comfortable with each room differing in its set up, which allowed investigation through the many paintings and decor to be more rewarding. Our room was everything we needed and despite […] having the AC unit near our window, it was not noticed at night. The room catered to all our needs. The staff throughout the hotel were excellent. Friendly, professional and engaging they were never too busy to assist where they could to make our stay more comfortable. The food was excellent and braekfasts would often set you up for the day. In particular the afternoon tea options served up some of the biggest scones I have ever seen! The evening meals either formal or bar were all high quality and delicious. Despite the inital sense of grandure the grounds around the hotel are mostly private and dont allow you to explore far. There are a few viallages close to the hotel, but if your looking to explore some heritage sites you are well located for Bath, Berkeley Castle and Bristol. We had a great time in Tortworth Court and would recommend it if you require a relaxing and hassel free stay. Devamı

We asked for a quiet room as there were a number of weddings taking place. Our room was situated well away from the main reception area and we were completely undisdturbed by the celebrations! Many thanks! The extensive grounds provide plenty of opportunity to find a tranquil corner.

The staff at the Tortworth Court were very friendly and always helpful. The grounds are amazing and I enjoyed the spa treatment though the pool is a bit small especially if the hotel is busy.

Arrived late at night to a warm welcome at reception but a rather luke warm response in the bar when asked for a meal 10 minutes before meals stopped. Finding the room was a challenge, like doing the Crystal Maze as Tortworth has a (badly signed) maze of corridors and numerous car parks around the core hotel. The corridors are looking shabby and paintwork […] bashed and battered, with room adequate but expensive given the small TV and old fashioned appearance. It is due a refurbishment I understand, so management are aware but should be reflected more in the price. Main areas were pleasant enough, though who chose the tacky fake Constables and Reynolds paintings needs a course in buying art on a budget! Why not use local artists' works? Spa 'intimate' - ie book early BEFORE arrive at hotel as has not got the capacity to take many. Evening meal a mixed bag - narrow choice with entree variable in quality, mains too - but service excellent. Lunch on Sunday was very good ( so long as avoid profiteroles as too little sauce), though we had been booked for a 4pm lunch which at last minute was foreshortened; meaning I had to give up my spa treatment. My wife had a 'wonderful' massage treatement that left her relaxed and mellow. Staff she described as 'friendly and professional'. The grounds are absolutely lovely, with Arboretum and plenty of sitting areas (or bring a rug and enjoy lazing on the grass). Overall a very pleasant stay, tinged a little by the first night and the aged appearance of some of the hotel. Would we go again? Yes, esp with their summer offer (late July into August) making the price more in keeping with the current state. Devamı

Tortworth was a perfect place to use as a base to travel and see the sights that surrond this beautiful country area. We found that we had a very easy drive to Wales as a day trip and our only dissapointment was that we had not stayed longer. As far as accomadation and the staff, I could not have felt more welcomed and cared for as I did at Tortworth. I […] would certainly like come back to the UK and Tortworth will be a destination that I will certainly go back to. The common areas of the hotel are part of a real English manor house; really gorgeous with high painted ceilings - the dining room is in the old library. The hotel itself is located in an arboretum with many types of trees. The rooms themselves are nothing special but more than adequate.

We had a fantastic stay at Tortworth - 4 couples celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary - couldn't have been a better venue. Extremely friendly and helpful staff, beautiful surroundings, fantastic breakfast, stunning dining room. The standard rooms were really comfortable and well appointed, even if they are quite a hike from Reception! Near to Bath […] for shopping and also lovely Cotswold towns. Also great country walks - something for everyone. Would recommend this to anyone. Would love to go back. Devamı

This old converted manor house is in a delightful country park setting about 15-20 mins north of Bristol if you use the freeway, which is very easily accessible from the hotel. While the staff were everything you hope hotel staff to be, the building itsself, while being gorgeous in its overall appearance, shows signs of wear and tear inside and is […] not as 'fresh' as other properties at which I've stayed. The room was very acceptable, but again there were obvious signs of wear and a few signs of less than complete cleaning - a cobweb or two was obvious and I'm pretty sure that the carpet wasn't vacuumed every day as some of the crumbs we'd dropped were there for a day or two. Although a large very spread out building, access and parking nearer to most rooms was quite convenient. I did get lost a time or two when wandering the corridors trying to find reception. The restaurants were classic 'old world' and the offerings were acceptable but, in my and a couple of other guests I spoke to, somewhat overpriced. The bar was OK but again prices were more than expected for a property of this type. It was a good stay with the staff always polite and ready to help. However, this hotel somehow permeates an atmosphere of 'if you have to ask how much it is, you can't afford it'. Unfortunate but reflected by other guests I spoke with. I'd probably stay there again because the actual room rates are reasonable and I now know its shortcomings! Devamı

Excellent standard of facilities with very friendly and helpful staff. Rooms spacious and all of pleasant aspect. Would highly recommend to all seeking a special celebration and away from it all experience. Very convenient location for Bath, Bristol and the cotswolds. Would certainly return.

The hotel is a restored country house in a lovely setting (although you can still hear the motorway!). We would certainly think of staying again. Our main grumble was that we paid the extra for a 'Connoisseur' room, but were quite disappointed by this. In fact, we had little more than an average hotel room, with a tiny window, on the ground floor of […] a modern block. It was a dark room, miles from reception and the bathroom felt quite dated. They had given us bathrobes and a basket of 'enhanced' toiletries, but in fact I went back to reception to check that this really was a connoisseur room as I was hoping for a lot better. We still had an enjoyable stay though, with friendly staff, good pool and enjoyable (if stlightly under-staffed) breakfast. One other minor point is that there was a big wedding taking place the weekend we were there, meaning we could not get into the Atrium restaurant, one of the lounges or the bar at certain times, which was a bit of a shame. We ate in the restaurant on the Sunday night - cheerful service but not as high quality as the view or surroundings. We both felt that our roast beef main course was fairly chewy and probably had been prepared for the Sunday lunch. Devamı

We had a fabulous double room for our four night stay. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the buffet breakfast was ample & good quality- great variety including fresh fruit, cereals, pastries & cooked 'full english' with porridge & other hot breakfast items (eg poached eggs) on request. We didn't try the dinner but local pubs were very good for […] food. The gardens and huge variety of beautiful trees (with a map & key of the trees) were lovely & relaxing to wander around. We would happily stay again and recommend to friends. We had a lovely, enjoyable stay here & the dry weather made it even better. From check in to check out the stay was amazing. I booked this as a romantic get away with girlfriend & she enjoyed her stay. Check in was a simple task & the restaurant manager of Moretons restaurant volunteered ton carry our bags up to our room. As we checked in late we ordered room service & it arrived promptly & the service was good. My newspaper […] was waiting for me outside my door the next morning but unfortunately it was missing the next 2 days - but I wasn't too bothered, The breakfast buffet was very well stocked with a great variety. The food was well cooked. I definitely recommend having coffee or tea outisde in the garden after breakfast as the garden is well maintained & beautiful. My girlfriend had a massage in the spa & she said the staff were very pleasant & the massage itself was excellent. We had dinner at The Orangery on our last night & the menu was well constructed & they have just retained their 2 AA rosette status. I am sure they should be able to acheive a michelin star if the service of the waiters was improved as I feel they were a little inexperienced. The room itself was clean and well maintained by housekeeping, The only issue was that room can become very hot during the night even with the heating turned off. If there is a party ion one of the halls & depending on where your room is you may hear the music from the function. Overall this hotel thoroughly deserves it's 4 star status & it is a must stay for anyone looking for a romantic getaway in an area close to Bath & Bristol. Devamı

The setting of the hotel is lovely and staff very friendly, the only thing that let the hotel down was the brekfast The hot food was dried up the scrambled egg was like rubber on both morninings we had brekfast and the first morning asked for pastries that was on the menu but told they had not arrived yet that was at 8.15am.

I booked a stay in a Connoisseur room and can confirm that the property itself is lovely (listed historic building). The room was very roomy and comfortable and the noisy pipework is easily forgiven. What was poor was the breakfast where it appeared that breakfast was prepared for the buffet at 6.30 and then left out until eaten. I took breakfast at […] 8.30 by which time the fried eggs were like rubber all the way through and the rest of the food was similarly heat dried. So easy to ruin what otherwise would have been a perfect destination. Devamı

Fabulous hotel. The history of this place is fasinating. I went with my partner but we didn't use the pool facilities as there were lots of children in there and the pool was shut off for swimming lessons. Breakfast was faultless and you can have as much as you want. The rooms were clean and very big, Excellent value for money.

Lovely hotel but very busy with business men and courses. Due to nature of one of the courses it meant that we couldn't use the pool at a convenient time to us as it was closed for part of the day. Room nice but bed not very comfortable. Restaurant food was nice and service very good, averall a good experience and would recommend to friends.

The hotel is very appealing on the eyes, a beautiful manor house in a lovely setting. The breakfast and dinners were excellent and the decor suitable. The bedroom was very nice but I think could do with refurbishment including a new bathroom suite. Swimming pool and spa were also excellent. Tortworth Court is gorgeous – and it actually cost me less than staying in a downtown Bristol hotel – yet it is just off the M5 so has fast access to Bristol, Bath, Cardiff, and the Cotswolds. It is one of the best value hotels I have ever stayed in. The grounds are stunning with an arboretum and the hotel had a free health spa with pool, sauna and […] steam room. There are two excellent award winning restaurants plus a bar area that does food. There is also a top floor sitting room with panoramic views across the countryside. The rooms are clean and mine had a very large bath The guests were mostly businessmen attending meetings and locals using the spa. Close to the motorway so access into Bristol was easy to cope with. Once checked in we actually found it more difficult to find our way to our hotel room! What a maze of corners and corridors for the part of the hotel we were placed in. Really enjoyed the wonderful variety of art work situated on the corridor walls - and they did in fact help us to […] remember the route to our room. The swimming pool and spa area was great and the staff friendly and helpful when we went to use the facilties. The lounge room at the top looked out across beautiful countryside and we realised that we ought to have made use of our overnight stay more efficiently. We really should have arrived in time to walk round the grounds to appreciate the venue better. Really lovely surroundings, very friendly and unpretentious. Loads of information at the hotel around restaurants and facilities. Pool very nice. Service very polite and efficient. Not enough info re the Cotwsolds and the Cotswold way, though loads of leaflets for local attractions. Would have been nice to have had maps and walking guides for the […] local area. This hotel was recommended by a work colleague and so booked one night to celebrate my 2nd wedding anniversary. The hotel is surrounded by lovely gardens and is very. We didn't have dinner but ordered takeaway which the hotel didn't mind and gave plates etc. Booked in for a spa treatment which was nice and well needed (shame it had to end). We had a […] four-poster room, which came with bathrobes and slippers, and was a great size and so quiet (you couldn't hear other guests). The breakfast was a buffet style and they happily cooked me veggie sausages and there was plenty to choose from. There isn't much to do around the hotel but it's location is ideal as you're not far from the M5, so the next day we went to Cotswolds Water park and Bourton on the Water. If you're looking for somewhere peaceful to relax in a grand,characteristic hotel, with no distractions (struggle for mobile signal) then I would recommend this. Devamı

A beautiful hotel in a lovely setting. Lovely grounds and facilities were first class. The staff did not seem happy and looked a little de-jected. None the less we loved the place completly.

Het is tevens een enorm goede uitvalsbasis wanneer je Bath, Bristol en de Cotswolds wil gaan bezoeken. Ook is dit een prachtige omgeving voor wandelaars en natuurliefhebbers. Ett hotell som har allt, som man önskar på en semester ,om man ej vill bo i storstad. Här finns härlig miljö, underbar trädgård med trädkarta... stillhet , bra och trevliga rum,fantastisk typisk engelsk frukost, comfort samt bra närhet till trevliga utflyktsmål.
