LES SOURCES DE CAUDALIE - Bordo

I know this hotel from eating in the bistro but had never stayed there until now. Though the overall benefits outweighed the negatives, the negatives were a bit tricky to deal with. For example, when I arrived, the loo had not been cleaned. Someone had used it and the remains were disintegrating at the bottom of basin. Not a pretty sight, particularly […] as it was one of the first impressions I had of this place. Another irritating factor was that they had no air conditioning. They keep reminding me of their 5 star status, yet they later told me that the air conditioning does not work until the summer. Despite it being only April, outside temperatures were 35C in the day! Even 2-3 stars that I stayed in on the same trip had air conditioning. This makes no sense at all. I did not feel comfortable opening the French doors because I was on the ground floor and basically anyone could walk in. It is in an isolated location, but still. So, I was sweating all night - which did not make good sleep. In the restaurant, the service was hit and miss...as well as the food. They did the 'I'll just put your white wine in an ice bucket that is not next to your table, and then not fill your glasses when they're empty, so you will be inclined to get up and do it yourself. But when you do, I'll be sure to look at you like I don't know what you're doing because it is my job'. The bottled water was also almost room temperature (not cold). For a Michelin-starred restaurant, this should have been better. It was also a bit pricey for what it actually is. We were both disappointed in the desserts. It was nice to try, but we won't be rushing back. We had better service from the bar while we were out on the deck overlooking the pond. That was a lovely experience. Titel zegt genoeg, super mooi verzorgde omgeving, waar je weinig kunt misvragen. Het gastronomisch restaurant was gesloten, maar de maaltijd in het "gewone" restaurant was zeker OK. Wij hopen er ooit nog eens terug te komen, voor een paar ontspannende dagen!
