Old Ground Hotel - Ennis

An old but well updated hotel in the midst of Ennis. Hotel restaurant/pub (the Poet's Corner) has great atmosphere/character with excellent food. The breakfast that was included was okay, but nothing spectacular.

Wonderful stay at the Old Ground...only regret is that I couldn't stay longer. Very accommodating and convenient.

The hotel is very well situated in the heart of Ennis. It's old-fashioned comfort was welcome, particularly the comfortable sofas and chairs in the public area of the hotel. Our room was large and well furnished - odd though to have two copies of the same artwork over the bed ! The bathroom was large, but the tiles could do with new grouting and the […] toilet flush had a mind of its own. But all in all a very enjoyable stay. Devamı

Hotel setting and grounds were nice. Seating areas were charming and staff was extremely helpful and friendly. Poet's bar restaurant had great food. Only downside was the room, which was in real need of an update.

A great location to be based in Ennis town, which is pleasant and has still some medieval character. The hotel restaurant The Town Hall is full of atmosphere and the food good.

This is a great old style Irish Hotel with friendly Irish Staff , great bar an restaurant . The location in centre of town is great for those who want to stroll arounf town centre .

This hotel is very social with a great buzz about it. Location is perfect bang in the centre or Ennis with the bar opening onto the main street. The room was clean and big if a little dated - the bath had seen better days. We have an almost walking baby and the unattached pieces of glass on the two bedside tables and small table were a bit of a hazard. […] Bed was very comfy. Where this hotels excels is the lovely staff and the amazing communal areas - in particular the resident's lounge. We were with another couple with a baby and we spent most of our time here. This is a very beautiful, well maintained hotel and very central location.Staff are very friendly and helpful.My only problem is the bedroom that we had.Though it was very modern and clean, it was very small. The room was like a sauna by night and if we opened the window we were right next to an air conditioning unit (i think) and it was very loud.

Overall, this was a very nice hotel, well located and very comfortable. The layout of the hotel was a little unusual; one elevator, lots of stairs and doorways but once you read about it history and additions over the years, it becomes understandable. The food in the bar, in the Bistro and for breakfast were all delicious. The bar and Bistro are apparently […] frequently visited by many of the people in Ennis. The staff was extremely helpful and had lots of advice and great suggestions. The drawbacks to the hotel?...a portion of the carpet in the room was coming up...the bathroom door was swollen at the bottom and would not open or close properly...the bathtub was a nightmare. The tub was so narrow that one shoulder was touching the wall and the other was brushing the shower curtain. My wife and I both found that we had to turn sideways to take our showers. But even with that, the room itself was very comfortable and extremely spacious. So, I would still recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Ennis. Devamı

Old style quaint hotel. Parking is a nightmare though!

The only issue was the toilet which was leaking water at the back. Maintenance did fix it quite quickly however there remained a musty smell in the bathroom.

First time staying at this hotel, very central location within Ennis, close to shops/bars and everything you would need. Ate in the Restaurant during the stay, service was good, but food was average considering the price, if back again I will try some of the other places to eat within Ennis. Room was very nice, also got moved without any issue to […] another room when requested a room with a wired internet connection point, as only the newer rooms have them, though over the course of the stay the connection was not very reliable, on last night of stay I had no connection at all. On the whole a nice relaxing stay, will probably return again when in the Co. Clare area next. Devamı

grat place to stay, personal, good food, welcoming. unlike the plastic generic hotels that criss cross the country. a real pleasure to stay here

The hotel is located conveniently downtown but still quiet. The room was warm and we should have requested a fan. We saw them around the next day but they were all out when we asked. The bed was just a double and somewhat worn.

The town of Ennis was new to us. It is a cute quaint town but witha very narrow one way street in front of the hotel. It was a little difficult to find. It was definitely a walking town. The rooms were fine. The food in the pub was very good.

Our Tauck tour started here, so staying there was convenient. Comfortable, bur lounges and Reception are getting a bit shabby. AED

The hotel did meet any of our expectations. The pictures from the website do not match in any way the room we were given. Of our 9 day trip, this hotel was the most disappointing.

Lobby does not do justice to it. Looks old. But rooms are updated and lovely. Hotel restaurant is wonderful as well.

Our room was very nice, and clean. I assume it was in the new part of the complex, and I do believe, there can be a big difference between this room, and similar in the old part. Great location, and very nice pub downstairs. Excellent breakfast.

we were so trilled with the present of a night stay in The Old Ground Hotel. Our room was great and spacious. we had a meal at the bar before heading out for the night and it was lovely. we returned in the early morning and we asked for sandwiches and after a little persuasion received them and must say thanks they were beautiful. we really enjoyed […] our stay and hope to return again. we would recommend the hotel for comfort and friendlyness of staff and most of all convenience to the beautiful town of ennis. Beautiful. Ennis is a lovely city and the hotel is within walking distance of shopping and pubs. It was comfortable and relaxing. The staff was friendly and accommodating. I wish we could have stayed longer.

We booked a night at The Old Ground Hotel for what we thought would be for ease and convenience between Bunratty Castle and Cliffs of Moher. The outside of the hotel is charming, however, the inside is rather run down. We were not given any instructions regarding the electrical system and could not get the lights on. Phone would not work to call, so […] we had to walk all the way back to the front to ask what to do and tell them the phone was not working. Found out we had to put our room key inthe slot by the door. Then the lights came on and the phone then worked. Never got the coffee maker inthe room to work, and the hair dryer never got hot. Breakfast the next morning was in the dining area where we sat next to a wall splattered with grease and food pieces. It was nasty! Wait staff were rather haggared and showed disgust at having to work. The most disappointing part was how difficult it was to find the place, and once we did, no thanks to our Garvin who pointed us toward every tiny road possible, there was no parking available as the hotel was completely full. We most definetly did not have a 4 star experience, and suggest the staff take measures to update, clean, upgrade the items in each room to a working status, and be more informative to new guests not familiar with location, nor electrical systems in the rooms. The only good thing we can truly say is that the bed was quite comfortable. Devamı

This is our second stay at the Old Ground. We visited ten years ago on our first trip to Ireland and were impressed with the rooms and service. The dining room is highly recommended!! Food is imaginatively prepared and prix fixe dinners are a good value.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this grand old hotel. Spacious interesting rooms. Lovely grounds and common areas. Resident "Poets" pub was simply wonderful- great ambience, food, and entertainment, (though one member of our party fell ill after eating crabcakes). Excellent location in the heart of the village. Extremely friendly and helpful staff. Only […] inconvenience was difficulty in finding the hotel and parking lot by car- requires expert navigation of one-way streets- may need to ask a local. no air and our room was on the noisy street corner, got no sleep

We checked in swiftly and parked our hire car in the school next door (as instructed) as the hotel car park was full. The room was spacious, with a seperate dressing area and bathroom (smoking room 410). the hotel is close to everything and we walked to many pubs and bars. The next monring (Sunday) with sore heads, we were woken by the bells, from […] the church directly opposite, but it was melodic (to a degree) Overall a great hotel, although we didn't make the most of anything other than our room. There was a large wedding in the hotel and the party room was close to our room. Noise all night, slamming doors and people yelling in the hallway. I needed ear plugs to get any sleep. The parking was a nightmare. No spaces in the parking lot and people had made spaces where there were none. After driving around we were finally able to squeeze into […] a space on the street. We would highlly recommend this hotel to anyone staying in the West of Ireland. Ennis itself is a warm and charming town and the staff at the Old Ground Hotel were gracious, helpful, and top notch. When we were about to depart, one of the staff took the time to hand write directions for our travel back to Dublin so that we could avoid the worst roads […] and find our way easily to ur destination. The Old Ground Hotel undoubtedly deserves a five-star rating. The rooms are comfortable, the atmosphere is full of charm, and we would definitely stay there again! Devamı

Great hotel stay, marred by a misunderstanding. Having checked with reception that breakfast was included in the tariff it was upsetting when I was informed (at the table - after ordering my meal) that it wasn't. When I spoke to the manager away from the dining room she accepted that it was their mistake and the charge would be waived, but she should […] have arrived at that decision without my morning being spoilt. My wife and I were going to the Ireland and Barbarians rugby match in Thomand Park and decided to stay in Ennis rather than Limerick. We choose the Old Ground as we had stayed there before and found it a very comfortable, old style but well maintained hotel. Again we were not disappointed, with the standards still very good. The only problem we encountered […] was in trying to get parking in the hotel car park at 11 pm after returning from the match. Other than that we had a very enjoyable overnight stay and an excellent breakfast set us up for the road home the following morning. Intend to stay again on our next visit to Ennis. Devamı

After our trip was over and done, we decided that without a doubt, the Old Ground was the best hotel we stayed in. The staff was excellant. Everyone was extremely helpful and friendly. The food in both the dining room and the pub was terrific! We had a great night of food and traditional music on our second night. The hotels we stayed in after that […] were much more modern buildings but nothing compared to The Old Ground in terms of wonderful staff, wi-fi access in your room (the only one that had it), ability to exchange money for you at the desk, and general helpfullness. Our adapter didn't work for our laptop and the desk clerk happily offered to charge it for us in the office since all their adaptors were being used by other guests. The Old Groud Hotel looks to be very old indeed. We reserved a non-smoking room and it stunk bad of smoke. The hallway didn't smell but the room did. Kind of loud in the morning. If you are going to stay here make sure you get the breakfast included, because they overcharge for it if you don't get it with the room.

This was an absolutely charming hotel, quite large room and bathroom, with on site parking on the main street in the middle of the action. The staff greeted me by name, was incredibly gracious and exceed our every need. The in house pub, The Poet's Corner, was delightful, with a real neighborhood feel. We would highly recommend this hotel.

The Old Ground was comfortable, quiet, and an easy trip to and from the bus station. It's also close to downtown Ennis and the High Street. The bed was so comfortable! Definitely recommend it.
