Well I was shocked to find out I had to pay 12 dollars for parking and I will never stay there again!!!!

The service and people were very friendly, I stayed for two weeks and it felt like a second home, I had a great experience, and all the people the that worked there were awesome, I will come back again, thank you very muck. KJC

Great service except for the rugs. Stairs need cleaning and front door rug needs replacement. Everything else OK

This is a Great place for the price near trolley in Toronto. Takes 15 to 20 minutes by trolley to get to downtown convertion or financial centers. I could see the lake from my room window, It is a short walk to the lake. Couple blocks walk to parking and extra charge for parking $12/night.

The hotel is just what you pay. you get street noise, room smelling cigarettes, the breakfast almost just bread and waffle, even the wi-fi router being almost outside the room I couldnt get network in the room. There is no elevator for a 2 floors building. But hey, I paid cheap, so I have to be fair to the hotel and say that they serve what you pay. Hi, I read all the bad reviews this hotel had and I thought to myself that they were probably exaggerated or written by guests who were too demanding. That wasn't the case. The hotel has no parking on front of anywhere close by, you have to park temporarily on the sidewalk while you check in. There is a parking 2 1/2 blocks away, they will charge you […] separate and the parking is at an apartment complex where you will find use needles in the outside lot and alley. You have to walk back to the hotel. Once there, the moldy smell of the lobby will help you forget what you just went through with the parking. There is no elevator and the rooms smell like cat urine. The biggest room was the size of a shoe box and the TV in the room was a tube half-green, half-blurry. There is no remote for the TVs but the rooms are so small that you can change the channels with your foot literally. The sound of the trolleys arriving every 10 minutes or so at night will not let you sleep. There is only one menu for breakfast and it is waffles. You cannot take the waffles out of there to your room neither. The bread was so old it was toasted by the lightbulb ahead. Please, stay away from this place at all costs!!! Very nice and accomodating staff. I have never seen room so small before. There is room for the bed and about a foot on each side and the TV. The windows don't open and there is no air circulation in the room or the hallways so it smells stale, among other things. The location is mixed. If you walk north, Roncesvalles is a trendy street with lots of […] shops and cafes but south east is still a little sketchy with a 24 hour mcdonals on the corner where homeless folks pass the night. There is a streetcar yard behind the hotel so it can be very noisy at all hours of the day and night. Returning customer from Texas & I would still recommend this hotel to others. If you dont plan on staying in the room the majority of your stay this room provides exactly what you want. Clean room, clean bed to sleep in, clean linens to use, cable television for winding down & catch the weather. Plumbing worked great, no backed up or slow draining sinks […] or tubs, no clogged toilet (which I've gotten at higher priced hotels). It's not the roomiest but getting a 2-double bed room this time gave us a little more room than the 1-double bed room did. If you want a clean room to leave your stuff in & shower so you can spend your day sight seeing this is the place for you. Others on here have complained about the parking issue & about the neighborhood. We walked around the neighborhood during the night & never had an issue of felt threatened. Friendly and helpful staff. Not a lot of frills, but good value. The streetcar stop outside of the entrance is very convenient. The hotel is in a ethnic Polish neighborhood which made my stay there more interesting. Unfortunately, wireless in the room was not reliable.

I would rather poke out my eyes, dunk my head in a bucket of lye and jump off a cliff then stay there again. Even worse there isnt even a bar close by to drink the hotel misery away. Dont waste your time here folks. Sketchy.....

Old and worn, no parking on site, given a key to a nearby building underground parking that looks creepy (park next to a row of cars with an inch of dust of them) and pay 12$/night. I used it for one night then I parked in the street, close to that building where there's a lot that charges 2$/night. The key did not work properly, took me a minute on […] average of shaking the key in the lock until I was able to turn it and open the door (cheap copy ?). No elevator, 2 ladies one evening show up and upon checking in ask for help with the luggage up the narrow stairs, the person at reception says with half a mouth "sure .. just let me finish here.." then promptly forgets, picks up the phone, getting himself busy. Eventually the ladies braced up and started to haul their luggage up the stairs themselves. No reaction from the person at the counter. Very thin windows that let the noise from outside fill the room as if you are outside. The street car depot is just behind the hotel so the noise of street cars turning in an out of the depot is terrible. Aside from that the vibration from the street cars is felt as you lay down in bed, just rest your head on the head board. Breakfast - just some bagels and milk and orange juice and cereal and some fruits. It looked quite unappealing to me, I got a coffee one morning and that was it. Where do I start. We arrived to the hotel and it looked really rundown. The taxi ride took some time from union station which indicated that the information on the website is well wide of the mark in terms of location. They didn't have a queen room for us so we were given a free upgrade that had two double beds. Now to the room which I could only […] describe as a crime scene. If you were looking for liquid splatters or hair follicles you didn't have to look very hard. The sheets and duvets covers were covered in stains. Floors were disgusting. When we complained we were told that the room was clean! We were then offered to look at another room but we had seen enough. We left and found alternative accommodation. Yes the place is a bit cheaper but for the same price you could stay in travelodge which would be clean at least! It was my worst hotel experience and I wouldn't recommend that anyone stay here. Loved the street cars stopping directly in front of the hotel. The HJ was at least 1/2 the cost of hotels downtown yet getting to the convention center was a $3, 30 minute trolley ride away. The staff were helpful and friendly. Definitely recommend.

This hotel does not look good from outside and even worse inside. I would NOT RECOMMEND ANYONE staying here.. The rooms smells, there are trolleys passing throguh making noise so you cannot get sleep. They DONT even have a Parking garage and to park you have to go 5 -10 min walk. The hotel give you a parking space 5 minute from it in a Apartment complex […] with cars that have been there 10yrs with lot of dust. Its smells when you leave your car. The room had broken Soap Dish, along with Mildew in bathroom ceiling, bed sounded like it is about to break because it make a loud noise. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND TO ANYONE. The smallest rooms I've ever seen. The manager insisted on double billing and charging for more than agreed with Hotels.com for the room, but I got it taken care of through my Visa credit card with Capitol One. The parking is 2 blocks away in an underground garage that has mostly broken down cars in it. There is parking one block away for half the price […] $6 for 24 hours. Area was so scary- parking is two blocks away - underground parking of an apartment building... if you are desperate and wanted to save- I dont even recommend to take this place... I spent 3 hours there and left right away.

I stayed at the HoJo for a week while waiting for my apartment to open up. It was convenient to the Queen streetcar, which made it relatively easy to get to work. I was a bit nervous after reading some of the reviews on here, but was content with my time there. The hotel was cheap, so I didn't expect anything exceptional. I was stuck in a smoking room and Im a nonsmoker so I was disgusted with the smell right away. There was only enough space to walk in so I was glad I was alone. The air conditioner should be cleaned. Its was very close to the Gardiner Express Way, really came in handy. And breakfast was very simple.

For the price I have been paid, I am not satisfied .No Parking inside, the place is dirty, it's not a good street. No maintennace. But the workers are welcoming.

I was very pleased with this hotel.The staff were pleasant and helpful.The location suited my needs and reliable public transport on your doorstep.Maybe not ideal for families but as a single traveler on business, this hotel was very good.

For the price we paid we should not have expected more. The continental breakfast was great. The room was very small. The carpets in the hall & the room were dirty. Otherwise the room was very clean, very quiet & the air conditioner worked fine. Location worked for us. We only had to take one bus to our destination. Having no restaurant close by was […] inconvenient because the parking is 2 blocks away. There is a McDonald's right beside the hotel, but since we were there 4 nights we would have liked more. Also, hard to unload our luggage when we arrived because there is no place to park & you have to come inside to get the key for where we end up parking. It was also hard with no elevator because my husband is handicapped. It also would have been nice if we could have used the room where they have the Continental Breakfast to eat our dinner. We weren't looking for much except the fact that we could save a few dollars knowing the hotel is close to Ontario Place. You cannot park at the hotel without thinking the TTC would tow your car, had to park 2 blocks away, which wasn't bad except that the parking is in the garage of a rough apartment building (nothing happened to our car though). The room we had smelled like a dirty washcloth. The carpet was filthy and the shower curtain needed to be washed. The air conditioning was not working properly the first night and a wet mouldy smell came out of it when it was on. This was fixed but the room still smelled bad. The Hotel was ok, but the room was the size of the bed! Way too small. There was no place to put our two suitcases and the door to the bathroom hit the vanity. It was in a fantastic neighbourhood. I am not picky about hotels, but this one was awful all-around. It had a decent rating on this website, so I thought it would be alright. It was not. First, it was located in a bad section of Toronto. The parking is off-site and costs a substantial amount per night, which I was not notified of until I arrived. Not this one. There was barely enough room to move. The desk chair just about butted up against the bed. This really should not even be called a room. It should be called a closet. Also, the room smelled bad the entire time. And the toilet was not clean. There was an old urine stain underneath the toilet seat. The pillows had stains on them and were damp. I also found a pubic hair inside the nightstand drawer. Finally, the breakfast was awful. I have stayed at Howard Johnson hotels before with a very nice selection of hot and cold foods. All this had was stale bread and bagels, cereal, and waffles. It had water and very terrible fruit juices. I really wish that I were making some of this up, but I am not. Sadly, it is all too true. This easily was the worst hotel experience of my life. As I wrote above, I am not picky about hotels. I am willing to sacrifice a degree of comfort if needed. But this was very uncomfortable and not worth the price. You are better off paying ten bucks more a night for a much nicer hotel than this trashy one. Well for the price it willl due...I mean the area is suspect but you are right by the water which in the summer is EXACTLY what you need. We made the mistake of trying to exit through where it says "exit" It was a mistake cuz once you are in the stairwells you are locked in. This is done to prevent ppl from shooting up in the hallways. It makes sense […] but it was annoying. The free breakfast was good. LOVE the waffle machine. Our room was a little small. Dont know if all the rooms were like that. For 2 ppl it was a tight place BUT the manager did go out of his way to put us in the NON smoking area when I by mistake booked a smoking room online so that was nice of him. this hotel has the smallest room i have ever seen and there is no parking not even for disability the parking is 21/2 blocks away at an apartment building . the worst hotel i have stayed at yet.

there is a lot of negatives of about this hotel. The service was incredibly poor. I work in the industry and to be treated in such a poor manner by the manager is completely unacceptable. We found ants in our room toward the end of our stay. Upon leaving he did not even ask about my stay. He went straight to the payment. When i told him about the ants, […] his response was "yeah ive had other complaints about ants." No compensation because it was our last night. The bed was a large king size but there was almost no room to maneuver around. Furniture is old. and electronics such as tv and phone are from the 90's early 00s at best. There is no elevator in this hotel and not really anyone available to assist with baggage. Because the room is so small, anytime you have a shower, the entire room becomes moist, the floor is constantly humid. parking is not on site, it is at least a 7 minute walk from the hotel in an apartment, underground parking. Yet it still costs 12$ per day. There is nowhere to unload your baggage in front of the hotel or around it, so you have to walk with it from this underground parking lot. All in all i regret spending a dime in this place and advise you to find somewhere else to spend your money. Devamı

If you're travelling on a budget and not too fussy about where you sleep, this is a good place to stay. The location is close to downtown and convenient by public transit (about 15 minutes on the 504 streetcar at a cost of $3). The streetcar is both good and bad. For me, the trip was about seeing the sites and using the hotel for a bed; for this, it was good. The money I saved on the hotel allowed me to spend a lot more on the attractions of Toronto. I would recommend this hotel to those who want a semi-central location and are on a budget. For pretentious people who like to complain a lot, I would recommend booking a suite at the intercontinental beside the CN tower. the hotel room was supppose to be big enough fo 2 people but was very small 10 ft by 8t with 1 bed ...the hotel is located above the ttc train station and all you hear are trains squeeking as they circle the building

Kind of sketchy neighbourhood, but I've seen worse. Hotel isn't too clean and by that I mean - On the surface everything seems to be vacuumed and washed but there were cigarette burn holes in the extra blanket we asked for. The beadspread looked a little dirty but we covered it with the extra blanket. The sheets seemed clean, but the carpet in the room […] was stained & dirty, as was the upholstered chair. The toilet didn't flush properly, but we didnt notify the hotel becasue by the time we realized it, it was 3/4am and we weren't about to change rooms. It is noisy because of the street car depot right next door, but we didn't come home from the bar we were at till about 3/4am so we didnt hear them till morning & had to leave by 10am anyway. I chose this hotel for proximity to St Joseph's Health Centre and prepaid for 2 nights at a special discount rate. It was but a 5 minute walk to the health centre where a relative was to have a procedure requiring an overnight stay at the hospital. Little did we know that the hotel was directly next door to the TTC streetcar depot . Streetcars travelled […] by our window constantly, every minute, from check in till well passed midnight. Streetcar traffic slowed a bit from 1 am till 5 am when the noise began again. It was almost like a train passing right next to a home every minute. Needless to say our sleep, what there was of it, was not a pleasant one. The breakfast was almost all carbs, little protein at all except the milk in the cereal. There was fresh fruit as well. To park the car after unloading the luggage in a tow away zone , a 2 block drive was necessary with a 10 min walk back to the hotel, not very convenient. It is an old, 2 story hotel which needs some upgrding, especially the carpeting. Much of the furniture also needs to be replaced. On a positive note all the staff encountered were friendly and provided all the information and answers I needed. Devamı

I was worried when I read the reviews but went ahead and booked it anyways because it was what I wanted to spend. I was pleasantly surprised. Check in took a while because the woman checking in when I got there kept asking a ton of questions. The front desk clerk was nice & helpful. Most of the staff was nice. No elevator but each level is locked & you have to use your key card to get in. Neighborhood was not the greatest but I've been in worse. The staff is a little stingy with towels and washrags. When housekeeping cleaned the room they didn't always leave the correct amount of towels. HOWEVER, one day I left my iPod touch in the room when my boyfriend & I went out for the day. When we got back, the room had been cleaned & my iPod was where I left it. AWESOME! Down Queen St. there is a small coffee shop called Skyline Cafe that serves an excellent 3 egg breakfast, with taters, pea-meal bacon, & toast for $6.75. It's a bit of a walk but it's worth it. As much as there are TTC street Cars everywhere and all the time. the rooms take out all that that by making you comfortable. I liked it....that's all I can say.

It was not a great experience as the room was small and it smelt like if the hotel were very old. Still, I consider that this would be the best option in Toronto as it is near downtown, very good accessibilty (Metro, buses and trams going practically everywhere), surrounded by a decent neigborhood, the breakfast was good enough and the treatment from […] the personel was ok. The Toronto West Lakeshore is located on the edge of Downtown, where Queen St and King Street meet. It is very close to a two trolley stations that will take you anywhere in town. The price was best in town, so not surprising the room was small. The room had an "old building" smell, but was it was clean. The building needs an update, new carpet, new […] painting... but if they do that it probably will be more expensive. The room is so small, it's like a box, the TV does not have good reception, toilet kept on clugging & no maintenance around, the front desk told us to get the plunger & we can fix it ourselves. The carpet is filty and it smells. The hotel is sitting in bad area & does not have it's own parking, There's a hole in the airconditioner & makes us cold.
