The hotel could use some needed maintenance. Two examples are: First, water from shower was barely warm, but hot from sink. Secondly, the curtains didn't come close to keeping out light..The rods were too short and the curtains were very worn and needed to be replaced. I wish that there were more hotels like this available in America. Centrally located, comfortable, clean, and no frills. The building itself is older and the rooms do show some of their age, but in a way that does more to add character than detract from comfort. If you want a posh, modern, and sleek hotel in downtown Norfolk, you should look at one […] of the other options. If you want a nice hotel that is more than sufficient for a short stay and won't empty the wallet, you can't go wrong with the Tazewell. I'll certainly use it again if I find myself back in Norfolk. My stay at this hotel was extremely enjoyable and I would definitely stay there again . I originally booked a room with 2 double beds for myself and my mom, but when I checked in they gave us a king bed. Since the price was the same I didn't bother to switch rooms. I requested and received a fridge and microwave in the room at no extra charge. The building […] itself is old but our bathroom was recently renovated and quite large. My mother is extremely picky about hotels, especially bed cleanliness and was very impressed with the accomodations. We both agreed that the bed was easily one of the most comfortable hotel beds we had ever slept on. Dirty linens, creaky elevator and loud bars outside should steer people away from this place. Wireless was free which was a plus though. I would not stay here again.

The stay was overall pleasant. I especially like the location of the hotel, which is very close to the hospital where I had an interview the next day. If you are arriving on the weekend, there are plenty of street parking around hotel which are free on weekends. If you have trouble sleeping with noise, the A/C and heater noise is fairly loud and turns on and off very frequently. Sadly no breakfast is offered, so do plan ahead for that. Special rate ended up not so special. Thought ok so no breakfast we can go get that but then we either had to pay 15 a day for parking or park on the street if you can find a space. Lucky for us we were there on Saturday night and street parking was free on Sunday otherwise we would have to move the car or put money in meter by 6 am. I'm afraid it's just plain tired out. Carpets are stained, the bathroom is worn out, the windows don't quite close, the heat is noisy . . . It's time for a big renovation at the Tazewell. The people at the front desk and the maintenance man were wonderful and helpful, and the location is excellent. But the hotel itself is getting pretty worn down. The hotel is in a wonderful location. There are many restaurants and shopping close by. I had the opportunity to visit the pub right next door and it offered a great ambiance! A great location Walking distance to all the local restaurants and bars. The hotel was very old and took you back to the colonial days. But for the room it was a little dated for the price. The floors creaked when you walked over them and the curtains didn't fit the width of the window. And the heater made some noises throughout the night. Room was spacious and clean with necessary and expected ammenities. The charm of this hotel, built in 1907, is in its updates rather than it's age. ○This hotel itself seems old, but well maintained, I guess. Good access to shopping center, restaurants, and other sightseeing spots. Cheap price. There are different type of rooms, mine was large enough. Hotel staffs were friendly.×Stair lift for wheel chair equipped, but hard access for strollers.

Parking is not very accessible--I got a parking ticket the first day. There was some question about the safety of the neighborhood at night, although I was assured it is very safe. Cute boutique hotel. Building originally built in 1906 has been restored including original elevators. Large room with down comforters and soft beds. Good location in downtown Norfolk. whats not to like?

Room was clean and comfortable. Staff was friendly and helpful. Couldn't find password for internet and phone in room didn't work so I had to get dressed to go down to front desk. Couldn't find anything in room with check out time. When I got my bill, it had someone else's credit card number on it. Parking was horrible. No parking in front of hotel […] to check in. Drove around block several times and finally pulled off to side of road and called the hotel to find out where to park. There is a small loading zone on side of building that is not well marked. Park there to check in and then they let you into a private parking garage - also not well marked so it took a while to figure out where to park and how to get back to street level. No accessible elevator to garage parking and the door to walk into the parking garage is locked too. You have to aske the front desk to let you back into the garage. Devamı

I'd recommend the Tazewell to anyone looking for a decent priced room with a great downtown location--close to good restaurants and shopping. The MacArthur Center Mall is a block away and the batteship Wisconsin and Nauticus (naval and aquatic museum) are only a few blocks walk. Everything was great until check out at noon on 7/31...The front desk lady repeatedly hit on my boyfriend and considering how much I paid to stay there I was VERY put off by this. Otherwise the hotel was really great. Very clean and a great location. All of the other staff was very helpful and polite. The bed was very comfortable and the hotel is private […] and quiet with an excellent view. Many great restaurants and shops in walking distance. It's a shame that she ruined the hotel as I definitely will be going back to the area. I will not recommend this to anyone because of how persisent and rude her flirtation was. Very embarassing for both me and my boyfriend and I am not uptight or prude. The level she took it to was very inappropriate and more than anything extremely disrespectful. To the Tazewell: I would hope you'd discipline this individual as I work for a very large company that books hundreds of thousands of rooms each year and I will not suggest this hotel to my customers. We had a suite, and it was really nice, clean, and comfortable. I was surprised it how spacious it was considering that it's an older hotel. The location is terrific and the front desk service was great. My only problem was the lack of room service and limited breakfast options, which was a bagged breakfast.

Downside is that it is an older hotel and the rooms are not large enough for the furniture. I reserved a non-smoking suite and was provided with a single room on an "all smoking floor". The desk person acknowledged the "mistake" but advised there was nothing he could do about it because they were sold out. I tried to secure other lodging, but every hotel was booked due to a convention in town. The drapes were falling off the wall hangers, […] the towel rack was hanging from the wall, the rug had gum in it, the A/C sounded like a jet engine, handles were broken off the dresser drawers, etc. The base boards were ripped off the walls in places. The windows were filthy. This was perhaps the worst maintained hotel I've ever stayed in. I felt sorry for the young staff whose principal job seems to be trying to placate the complaints of a slum lord's hotel guests. Devamı

I could tell the hotel was renovated but the carpet in my room was terribly stained and although my room was a nonsmoking room the room smelled like cigarette smoke and mildew. The only saving grace was that I only reserved a one night stay. I do not recommmend this hotel to anyone used to staying in 3 star or better hotels.
