Hotel Provincial - New Orleans

My husband and I stayed for two weeknights during Jazz Fest. We chose this hotel because it was the first one we saw on a list of "haunted hotels" in New Orleans, which my husband thought was cool. On the first day when the bellman was helping us with our bags during check in, I made a joke about the hotel being haunted. His response was, "Let's just […] put it this way, if you believe in it, you might see something," and proceeded to tell us that none of the hotel staff had ever seen anything unusual. I don't really believe in this stuff, but I thought it was odd that the hotel staff would tell you the hotel is not haunted on your first day when that's the reason people come to the hotel. It kind of took the fun out of it. Other shortcomings: There were no mini bar and safe box in the room, which my husband and I consider pretty basic amenities. The pool was also pretty small and not exposed to sun the entire day, but I think the pool/courtyard setup is pretty standard for the French Quarter. Pros: Good location, the staff is very friendly and everything was clean. Also a decent continental breakfast. Overall, we found ourselves wishing we had stayed in a few nicer-looking hotels in the neighborhood, which from what I can tell would have been the same price or less. Devamı

We really enjoyed our stay at the hotel provincial. The rooms are lovely, the staff was very nice and helpful, and the location of the hotel is great. We really liked staying in a unique and historic hotel rather than an ordinary run of the mill hotel.

I called ahead to get an early check in and was told 1pm. I checked in at 1:15 and was told the room wouldn't be ready till 3, the rude lady at the front desk asked for my cell phone number and she would call me once it was ready. I did so, by 3pm, posted checkin time, i was not called. I showed up and the same rude lady gave me the keys to my room. […] Upon walking into my room and started to unpack, a maid walked in apologizing that she wasn't informed the room was occupied. The room itself was nice though with a view of the river. The next day we went for the free breakfast and there wasn't anywhere to sit, I wasn't expecting much for a free breakfast but a place to sit would be nice. All in all, I do not see myself staying here again. The rude lady at the front desk needs to go and seating for the breakfast needs to be expanded to meet current occupation. Devamı

We wanted a hotel that was in the Quarter, close to Cafe du Monde and the French Market, yet not on Bourbon with all the craziness. The location was perfect, easy to access from I-10 and close to all the sites. We would definitely stay there again. I have stayed at this hotel several times and have always loved it. It is a great location, very picturesque and captures the essence of NOLA. However, this time, we were sent to a room in the 500 building, which use to be Confederate military hospital. The entrance/ lobby area was very dirty, the elevator was very old and was not maintained, and the […] room was inadequate. It had 2 beds very close together, no closet in the room (we later found one in the bathroom), a bathroom that was very close to the bed (door came close to the bed when open), banged up furniture, no pictures etc. It was very stark, somewhat "creepy" and held none of the charm as in the other buildings. I would rate it as a 2 star room, at best. I called and asked for a transfer to another building. I did get a transfer, but only after I said I was checking into to going to another hotel. Our new room was on par with what we were use to there and was charming and quaint. My concern is that we were told "the problem is that you booked through hotels.com and not directly through our hotel". They are correct, in that all my other reservations were made directly through the hotel but I did request the same room type on all previous visits. However, I have booked many hotels through hotels.com and have had great rooms other places in the past....including booking rooms out of the country and ending up with fantastic balcony/ oceanview rooms (without asking). It disturbs me that the hotel is not giving equal treatment to patrons. I applaud that they made arrangements to transfer me to another room, however, I am not someone who normally complains and I would not have normally asked for this if I hadn't been so upset with the room. Very nice hotel located a short walk to bourbon street. Good location for street cars, Quiet location but still within French quarter. Continential breakfast was nothing special, but a killer coffee shop and bakery a few blocks away (American Cafe). Staff was very helpful, but pushed booking tours through them (commission?). We got in prior to check […] in (3pm) and they called at 3:45 to let us know room was ready. $24 a night to park valet only (in/out). Also pushed the doorman on us to carry bags to the room so be prepared to tip and also tip on the valet parking which is right on the property. All in all very enjoyable stay. Granted, it was a huge storm; thunder, lightening, a brief (5 - 10 minute) blackout, but with our room windows facing the front of the hotel, we discovered that rainwater was running down the window when we got out of bed in the morning. We placed bath towels at the foot of the windows to soak up the water, but due to the blistered paint, it appeared […] that this was likely not the first time. Interesting set up of hotel. Rooms are pretty big and neat. Location is great. We walked everywhere.

This hotel was the perfect spot for us. We were visiting to look at Tulane University, so I had my 2 teenage boys with me. It was a beautifully quaint hotel in the French Quarter but away from the crazy Bourbon street area. The rooms had the most comfy Temperpedic beds and very pretty furnishings. There were also great restaurants within walking distance […] as well as the ever famous Cafe Du Monde- for mouth watering beignets! We also got a bit of history from our taxi driver- the 500 building in the back area was once a civil war hospital> We thought this was very cool... Beautiful, charming historic hotel. Would have garnered a higher overall rating if we had opted for a room facing out to the streets. As it was, our quite satisfactory interior room faced a courtyard, which could have been lovely were it a green courtyard instead of a parking lot. Alas, you have to park the cars somewhere.

Hotel is in the French Quarter - close to everything but in quiet spot. Has lovely grounds, decent breakfast, friendly staff - would certainly go again. On the down side - Wifi is very weak and valet parking is very expensive ($24/night).

Ms. Montgomery was extremely helpful and very professional our intire stay of 3 days. She is a credit to your hotel.

The hotel is in the French Quarter and is 2 blocks from the French Market. Resturants and stores are all around. 3 blocks from the Mississippi River and the river boat cruise. The cable car station is 3 blocks away which can take you throughout the city on a day pass for few dollars. Not much parking in the French Quarter. The whole staff was unbelievable. They were so accomendating, and friendly. We are already looking at a return date. The location of the hotel was perfect for walking to all of the sites, restaurants, and markets. We had only two nights, but wanted to stay longer. Noiise in room 310 was a problem; street is just outside and walls and ceiling seemed a little thin. There are two iron fixtures jutting out of the wall between 310 and 311 that are pesonnel hazards; at eye level for a child; tore a shirt on one coming in at night. Bfkst was ample and well served. Hotel is close to the French Market. Friendly helpful staff. Ideal for those who prefer to retire early. Will definitely consider staying during my next trip.

The negatives were: 1) Morning coffee was so bad that it was undrinkable. There is good coffee in New Orleans, but I think this was a cheaper brand and it was horribly bitter. 2) Not enough light in room to read by unless you were lying on the bed. Couldn't ask for a better location for seeing the New Orleans sights. Room was clean and adequate but the bathroom was very small. Continental breakfast was adequate but a little monotonous for guests staying more than 2 nights. Location is main reason I would recommend it.

What an awesome hotel. Right in the heart of everything. The staff were terrific. The room was large and had a nice view. I will stay here again. Wondeful hotel and i travel a lot.

In the French Qtr. Walking distance to all the great parts of NOLA or street. Cars. DeFinitely at the top of our hotel list. Wonderful helpful staff.

It is located close to all attractions and yet is quite and is clean and very friendly. Great place to stay.

We stayed over New Years and then a few days after. Room was very large, comfortable, Historic, but not old and run down. Very surprised. Was very nice and comfortable, would highly recommend. In a quite part of French Quarter.

Perfect location to Jackson Square! Right next to all of the cool stuff in the Art district and a nice relaxing walk to Bourbon Street. If your staying with family, I would highly recommend this hotel....

Hotel was wonderful. Located in the French Quarter yet very quiet at night and highly active all day. Located within walking distance to all of New Orleans has to offer. Perfect place to stay on vacation. Staff was wonderful and so nice and helpful. We will be visiting again.

This hotel is in a GREAT location in the French Quarter. It's between Bourbon St and Frenchmen St and very close to the French Market. We only had to use a taxi once during our week there. Their free continental breakfast wasn't extensive but good enough to fill us up until lunch. Our room was in the back building and a bit older, but very clean. The hotel is nice and rustic. Our room was what you would expect from a hotel. Great thing is the hotel is walking distance to Bourban street. It comes with a basic breakfast of bagel, bread, juice, or coffee. The only bad thing about our room was the street noise in the morning and the view of the dumpster. Not for light sleepers.

We enjoyed this hotel overall and the antiques made us feel at home. There were a couple of odd things though. Drunk, stupid "Who Dat's" were running around the hotel screaming at 2:00 AM, which must have been fun for them, less fun for us. Mentioned it to the bizarre collection of desk staff and they said, "Well, we're excitable, that's just who we […] are." The next night a taxi parked AT the front door an honked his horn 54 times, about 35 feet from my window. I finally came down and asked about the idiot on the horn, the desk clerk said, "Yeah, that was a taxi driver parked right there." So he watched this idiot honk his horn over and over but said nothing. The grounds are really beautiful and the building is largely kept up pretty well, but I think they have a special ed maintenance man. Every corner had paint marks there was even a 2" x 3" paint mark on the light bulbs in the bathroom above the sink. 1 minute to unscrew the light bulb and rinse it off in the sink just 30" away, but this was too much bother. The worst part of our bridal suite was the bath tub. This room is like 18 feet long or something, but the bathtub is about 40" across! It's square with a weird little place to sit in the corner on the elevated portion but someone had sanded through the finish making little rough patches, ouch. There is NO way for anyone to stretch their legs out straight other than one of the little yellow brick guys so that was a major problem with this bathroom. There was enough room to put a full size tub, or a hot tub, or a single lane bowling ally, so why a miniature bath tub? REALLY weird. So, no bath, noisy guests and taxi drivers and VERY non-helpful desk clerks were the main issues. The door man was absolutely amazing and friendly and he helped us by answering many questions we had. Great suggestions also. One of the desk clerks (day time) was pretty helpful. And about the bed... This IS the bridal suite after all, but SERIOUSLY! The slightest movement caused the wo Devamı

We stayed at Hotel Provincial over Christmas weekend 2011. The hotel is relatively small, and quaint, lots of history and charm. Our room was freshly renovated, clean and comfortable. I a allergic to cigarette smoke, and this room was pristine. Brand new everything. Bed mattress was very comfortable, room was quiet, heating and cooling was quiet, and […] new window coverings blocked all the light. The reception area has a new room opened up expanding the entire area for morning breakfast and later serves as a full bar for socializing. The staff were friendly and committed to our comfort. They got us reservations at a nice restaurant within walking distance on Christmas Eve. This hotel is convenient to Cafe du Monde, St. Louis Cathedral, Royal St, and Bourbon St. I despair teling the world about how much I love this hotel, because I want it to stay just the way it is!...my secret!! The two negatives are these: 1) Our sink didn't drain well, (and since it was a holiday weekend, we didn't ask them to fix it) and 2) the breakfast room was not big enough to accomodate the number of guests and there wasn't a place for us to sit inside and eat, so we took our food to the courtyard area which was cool and breezy. Thank goodness it wasn't raining. So if you do go, and find out how wonderful Hotel Provincial is, please don't let it get out, and we can keep it all to ourselves! Devamı

sink backed up needs attention

We originally booked a hotel on Bourbon Street because we wanted to be right in the middle of the New Orleans atmosphere. After walking down Bourbon Street one night, we decided that no one in our family was going to get any sleep... so we decided to move hotels. Surprisingly, just one block off Bourbon was immensely more quiet, yet you're still in […] the middle of the French Quarter. This was the perfect location! The hotel staff were extremely helpful with both hotel logistics and tourist-idea type questions. The room was very clean and comfortable. Our only concern was that the walls are fairly thin. It was easy to hear things going on in the rooms above and next to us. However, we were very happy with this hotel, would definitely be willing to stay there again, and would easily recommend it to others. Devamı

In a wonderful location and the staff is supurb. I had a battery die in my car and the reception person lent me his battery cables to take off-site to jump my car. They go above and beyound to assure that their guests have a great stay.

This hotel was a perfect spot if you want easy walking distance from everything to see in the French Quarter. Our only complaints were that the shower water took about 10 minutes to get hot and that it was really loud in the morning, which made it hard to sleep in.
