Gateway Hotel and Conference Center - Ames

The Gateway Hotel was just what we were looking for. There was a restaraunt and bar on the second floor. The bed was super comfortable king. They did have some kind of convention going on that night so there were some loud girls about 1 a.m. in the hallway but my wife likes to sleep with the tv on so it was not enough to detract from the score at all. […] We would definitely go back. I really like the Gateway, my wife was not happy with the fact that the toilet ran all night. i had to shut it off. Hope she will let us return there next time we go back.

The staff was friendly. The room was immaculate. The food was delicious. I only wish I could have stayed longer.

This remains one of the best places to stay in Ames. It's comfortable with nice facilities and grounds. You can sure get a good night's sleep here and enjoy all the things Ames and Iowa State have to offer.

Hotel overall provided a nice stay for us. This is one of the nicer hotels in Ames and has been well maintained and updated. My only real complaint is that it is way past time to replace the beds.

Great location for easy access to ISU. Comfortable rooms, had plenty of parking, with restaurant available at a very reasonable rate.

The Gateway is a very comfortable, close to everything hotel. We have stayed several times and continue to have good experiences.

Woud definitely stay again. No free breakfast or even coffee but who cares. It's about the stay not the freebies. Very reasonable rates. Hotel is a little dated but condition of carpets and rooms is still very nice.

I had an executive room, which was very large, but cosy and homely. the bed was huge and very soft. Flat screen TV huge, and a nice sitting area. The bathroom was okay with a large shower room but no bath. The gym was pretty small and the pool was tiny, but people seemed to be enjoying the whirlpool. Room service and dining were excellent. If you are […] visiting the university, especially the vet school this hotel is brilliantly located, not so much for shops and restaurants though - they are a drive away. As with all hotels during college events, the prices were inflated. This was the first time we stayed at the Gateway and although the location was excellent the hotel is in desperate need of updating. Restaurant prices were high. Front desk was very helpful. Our room was quiet considering there were functions going on during our stay, but certainly […] furnishings and decor were older. For the prices of the room I would expect more. Devamı

It is convinintly located if you are visiting ISU. The service is very good and also the check in and check out. The room carpets needs to be updated and replaced.

Hotel was excellent as always, stay here frequently.

I have stayed at this hotel a number of times and have always been satisfied with the quality of the service, cleanliness and restaurant. I would recommend this hotel to anyone needing to stay in Ames, Iowa especially if you need to access Iowa State University which is nearby.

Very nice hotel, got a great price thru hotels.com. This is a very expensive looking hotel inside and out. Room was very nice, but the bathroom was small and the door to the bathroom was tacky looking, cheap lightweight wood that was all marked up. By just making an improvement on the bathroom door would make a big difference in appearance. I would […] gladly stay here again though, I am very picky where I stay and the room was clean. The room was nice & comfortable however the maids took all day to get around to cleaning your room. The first day their we returned late afernoon and the room had not been cleaned yet. I called the front office to complain and his answer was they will clean it before 4pm. Rooms were plain, but updated and clean. The location isn't great, but Ames is so small that it isn't an issue. The staff were very helpful, friendly and accommodating, but the night we were there the hallway was filled with cigarette smoke from people staying in a set of rooms a few doors down. The stench filtered into our room and made for an unpleasant […] stay. Of course, I don't fault the staff or facility for this and will try it again. Devamı

The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, prompt in handling the few small issues we had during our stay. We brought our puppy, and this was absolutely the BEST place I've ever stayed with a pet, anywhere.

Okay rooms linens were great. Room had water problems during rain. It apparently had other issues in the past and they had not been fixed

Nice hotel at a good price. Very convenient to ISU campus.

We have stayed at this hotel for over 30 years and unfortunately it looks the same. The carpet, bedding, linens, etc. have been upgraded but the doors, walls and structure of the hotel need work. It is a concrete building and will need some creative decorating to overcome the cold feeling. The website said we would have a refrigerator, microwave, coffee […] cups, etc., but we did not. When I asked at the front desk I was told those amenities were only in the executive center rooms. However other family members who checked in a few days later did have all of the amenities and they were on a floor just above us and not in the adjacent executive center. Since we were there for a week, it would have been nice to have been able to buy cold items that could have been stored in the refrigerator. The pool towels are a bit small and the pool could stay open another hour. Both it and the spa were well-maintained and warm. The fitness center is dated. The resistance station is beat up and missing pins. There is only one elliptical machine. The room is hot and stuffy. The same towels are used here as at the pool, and they are fine for the fitness center. Devamı

I stayed at the Gateway because the hotel I usually stay at for the annual conference I was in town attending had accidentally canceled my reservation - leaving me without a place to stay when I arrived in town. I picked this hotel because of the amenities - including the on-site restaurant, the Iowa Stater. I was deeply disappointed by the food - it […] was really quite awful. Overpriced glasses of wine didn't help matters. One of the pillows in my room had 8 or 9 (very visible) drops of blood on it - not something that inspires confidence in the hotel's cleaning staff. The hotel staff were lovely - very, very nice (like you'll only see in Iowa!) but overall, the food and cleanliness issues will probably drive me back to my usual hotel -- or I'd give another place a shot before I go back. Asked for fan, but never got one. Shower head came off in a stinging stream of water(was fixed the next morning). No roll-away bed. Breakfast brunch was waaaaay over priced. I often travel to DC and the breakfast brunch was just as expensive.

We were recently in town for a college visit to Iowa State. The hotel was easy to find, comfortable, clean and convenient. Had a good trip!

I happened to stay at Gateway Hotel during Iowa State's spring break and there were very few guests. Yet, the dining room served its regular menu with superb food that was extremely reasonably priced. A continental breakfast was provided free for the few hotel guests because there were not enough of us to employ the regular staff. Being the only guest […] at early breakfast time, I was treated like a queen. The hotel could serve as a great family reunion location or class reunion or similar gathering during these slow times when regular conferences are not meeting. It provides facilities like pool, etc., and probably meeting rooms could be used by family groups. All in all, I believe the hotel provided 4-star quality at a very low price for room and dining. Great access to freeway and ISU campus; standard room, but very clean; pool great; decent workout room; plenty of parking; desk staff was sketchy in terms of knowledge; breakfast should be included.

Rooms are clean, mattresses & pillows are comfortable. We always sleep well. Concrete construction makes this hotel quiet on any floor. Rooms are equipped with lots of drawer space & sofa beds are even ok for a pull out!! We would choose this hotel 1st when choosing a place to stay.
