What a great hotel to stay in the hotel staff was incredable We have never had this great of service while staying in Chicago. Make sure you eat at Millers pub which is a half block away great food amd service.

I was elated to be able to book this hotel online at the discounted price for the weekend of Dec. 5th. When I placed my reservation online, my confirmation paperwork confirmed that I had booked a deluxe king. I had booked two rooms for my husband and I and two friends. Both rooms had queen beds! BIG DIFFERENCE. When we complained, we were told that this room's rate/amenities were based on availability. I can't find this data on any of my forms or the website. I know we both would have been willing to pay more if necessary for king beds! How disappointing!

Be sure and request a room away from the street. Room exceeded expectation.

Suite allowed our sons to sleep on the sofa bed while my wife and I slept in the king bed. The room was clean with a very nice bathroom. The location was convenient to Macy's, the Field Museum and N. Michigan Ave.

This hotel was immaculate, well located, and very reasonable. Our king room was quite spacious. Business Center in the lobby has two computers with internet access. A quiet location in the middle of the Loop. Literally minutes from Millennium Park, the Art Institute, and an L connection right outside the front door. Best parking rates are at Millennium Park, a block and a half away. Staff was very courteous in telling us about this option.

We stayed at the Silversmith for one night to go see a show and were very happy with our choice. The room was clean though perhaps a little small for an extended stay, the bed was very comfortable, and the staff at the front desk were polite and friendly. The bathroom in our room was large and well-appointed, and hot water came out of the tap immediately. The location of the Silversmith is without compare - especially for the price we got! It was a few blocks from our theater, surrounded by dozens of bars and restaurants, and after we checked out we wandered over to Millenium Park and the Art Institute of Chicago. Some reviewers mentioned the sound of the El being a problem - our fifth-floor room faced an inner courtyard, and though we could still hear the El, it registered as mere white noise. Like one reviewer mentioned, it sounded more like waves on a beach than anything else. All in all, I would highly recommend the Silversmith and plan on staying there again the next time I visit Chicago.

We knew that there would be parking charges for the hotel, but no where was it clearly stated how much we would be paying. The valet's take your car to park it, but you aren't clear on the price you will be charged. We got a great deal on the room, but parking was almost as much as the room was for 2 nights.

What a wonderful hotel! A real beauty right in the middle of the Diamond District and within a very close amble of theaters and the Miracle Mile! The furnishings are mission style and the rooms and public areas are very tastefully detailed. The rooms have high ceilings and are amazingly large. The hotel staff is extremely accommodating and friendly, with a concierge who is enthusiastic and knowledgeable. Highly recommend! We WILL be back!

I stayed at this hotel with my mom and sisters for a "girls weekend". This hotel was perfect! It was in a great location, just one block from Michigan Ave and Millenium Park. We were also one block from State St shopping. The room was much bigger than expected, very clean and nice. All of the hotel staff were friendly and helpful. I would definitely stay at the Silversmith Hotel again!

The people working at the hotel where very friendly and eager to please us. Hotel is close to the L but the noise was not a problem we weren't right in the front of the hotel. We where able to leave our luggage at hotel once we had to check out which was very convenient for us. I'll stay there again!!

Excellent place and the Ada's downstairs is a great place to eat.

The hotel is quaint and welcoming. The staff was very helpful. Convinient location. We took the advise of other raters and requested(2 days before our visit) a upper level room looking towards the inner courtyard, although all we had for a view was a brick wall (we did not hear the noise from the street or the subway at all).

Although the hotel is located in the EL train "loop" of Chicago, the train noise proved to be of little problem, especially weighing it against the convenience of traveling anywhere around the city! The hotel is located in a very old building which has been totally restored, and the room in which we stay was very nice. We would definitely stay here again.

This was our 3rd visit to the Silversmith. As in the past the hotel was very clean, and everyone was very friendly. Just a few minor problems. One of our rooms was located just outside the alley, and it was very noisey each night (I think that's when they run the do trash), also one of the rooms temperature controls was a little wacky. It was sad to see that they have discontinued the coffee service in the lobby, so some of us ordered a pot of coffee each morning, but that service is unavailable on Sundays for some reason.

The hotel was very conveniently located, just a few steps from the subway/El and 2-3 blocks from Millenium Park and the Art Institute. The room was very clean and service very accomodating and unobtrusive. It was also very quiet. Nice touch included the refrigerator in the room.I would definitely stay there again.

Great hotel location wise if you want to spend time in the Lake Michigan parks or the Art Institute, but those looking for evening hotspots would be better served staying on the north side of the river since the Loop neighborhood shuts down when offices close. You'll also want to get a room on one of the higher floors if you are facing the street due to the noise from the El train. I was on the 10th floor and could hear it pretty clearly (although at that elevation it sounded like an air conditioner turning off and on). I can't imagine how noisy it would be if you were on the 3rd or 4th floor.

I should start off by saying that I saw quite a few negative reviews of the Silversmith regarding shockingly bad customer service, proximity to the "L" (and the loud sound of trains that comes with it) and the small room. I went from October 23-26 and I didn't encounter any of these problems. In fact, the staff was always courteous and helpful. That includes when we asked them to hold our bags on Sunday because our flight left at night but we had to check out. They gave us a baggage claim ticket so we could come back at any time and the doorman got our bags for us (he even apologized for taking so long because he had to help another guest in the lobby). We got a room that faced the interior courtyard and the sound of the trains outside sounded to me almost like a white-noise version of waves crashing on a beach (I'm from San Diego). It was actually really soothing and I had NO trouble sleeping. The room itself wasn't huge, but it wasn't small either. We had another friend staying in a different ($200/night) hotel around the Near North Side and when she walked in to meet us she couldn't believe how big our room was. We were on a middle-level floor and the ceiling was vaulted up to, I'd say, 15 feet or so. The TV was old and there wasn't much space between the bed and the entertainment center cupboard thing, but it's more than manageable. The bathroom was actually pretty large and the shower had immediate hot water and good water pressure (not quite as strong as a fire hose, which I like, but you can take a good shower). Our room was also located facing the elevators, and there was no noise from that either. I like a stiff bed and this one felt very good, if still softer than what I'm used to at home. Actually it's the kind of bed that works for everyone - stiff enough to support you but soft enough to be comfortable. The same goes for the pillows, actually. The Silversmith is a quaint little hotel literally steps from the loop. If you are a pro at using public transportation, it would be great. The rooms were small, but clean and comfortable. We were in a room at the back of the hotel, fery quiet. Service was good with the front desk and bellman being very helpful. No hair conditioner in the room, a small annoyance. Location is great, 2 blocks from Macy's and other great shopping. Walking the Miracle Mile was certainly doable, but wear comfortable shoes. It's no 5 star hotel, but for the price was very acceptable.

I stayed here for the Chicago Marathon. Close to the start & finish. Very comfortable beds/pillows. Clean. Able to print out my plane tickets before leaving at no extra fee. A little expensive for 3 nights but worth it for the marathon.

We enjoyed our five night stay at the Silversmith. This is an historic early Arts & Crafts style hotel that has been upgraded, but still has a breath of the past. The rooms are pleasant, very clean and well maintained. Ada's Restaurant is good food reasonably priced, and open all day.

The staff was very helpful--from holding bags to recommendations and reservations for dinner. The Silversmith is a quiet but lovely hotel in the loop. It was very convenient for us.

Although the room was small which I expected, it was EXTREMELY comfortable. The staff was great, especially the concierge. Only stayed one night but would stay longer if we were able.

The room was very comfortable and clean and I felt safe there because of the way you have to use your room key card to get from the lobby to the room floors. All personnel in the hotel were very friendly and helpful.

Thanks to everyone who posts reviews. They were very helpful, and accurate. This was an exceptional hotel for the price. Actually it was an exceptional hotel at any price. Great friendly staff, constantly exceeded expectations for time to get services, what they would assist with and friendliness. We were in the back on the 9th floor and it was quiet as a church. Its about a block away from the Art Institute and Millenium Park. You can walk to everything. I've stayed a lot of places in Chicago and frankly can't believe this place doesn't have a higher star rating. Loved it.

everything about the hotel was excellent except the bed, which was just ok

We stayed at Silversmith on a long weekend. Great location to theatres, shows and Millenium Park. The suite was very small, nice king bed but wall between bedroom and sofa room only went 3/4 up. That plus the way the TVS were located in each room meant we parents and our two teens had to constantly adjust volume so as not to hear the other TV. Concierge was very nice, but we are from city and didn't need her services. Bed linens and extra towels were not in room although reservation was for four of us... we had to contact main desk and they did deliver them in a few minutes. Overall nice and clean, didn't eat at next door restaurant cuz there are a zillion places to pick from downtown

Staff needs better training in knowledge about in-house services like phone service), what to do with an easy special request like adding a blanket on the bed... Otherwise, the room was large and clean. Lighting could be improved, but overall a good room for the price.

At least 1/3 of the hotel rooms face an air shaft. There was no natural light in the rooms, and no view. Had to use lamps always. Staff nice, but you enter on the ground floor and lobby is on second floor so you rarely see staff. Rooms were small. Beds were not the most comfortable. But the room was very clean, furnshings were new, bathroom was very clean. The hotel is very convenient to the "L" train.

CLEAN, STAFF VERY NICE, DOWNTOWN LOCATION WAS PERFECT. WALKING DISTANCE TO ANY STORE!!

Hotel was easy off and on from the orange line from Midway so we never used a car or taxi. Michigan Ave one block away with Starbucks and Piaznos Pizza along the way. For the money and location, this will be our stopping point for future trips.
