The hotel was in an excellent location, on the river withits own viewing terrace. The hotel did not have a gym or spa facility therefore doesn't qualify for a 4* rating. However the room was excellent and the staff were friendly but it's not worth the price paid for the room. Great hotel in a lovely location. Great view of the river and a lovely comfortable room. Excellent service and very friendly staff. Very relaxing and only a 5 minute walk in to town centre. Would definitely go back.

I had a wonderful stay, the hotel was lovely and the staff were very friendly. I spent my 40th Birthday with them and received a complementary bottle of Fizz , me and my partner commented this is the best hotel we have stayed in to date. Would recommend at the drop of a hat and will definitely be back.

We held a birthday dinner in the Aubergine restaurant at the Compleat Angler, and some of the party stayed overnight. We had booked out the entire restaurant; the food and service was excellent, as one would expect from a Michelin starred restaurant. The hotel is located right on the Thames so you have stunning views and is only a short walk across Marlow Bridge to Marlow High Street---when I say short I mean short I promise! I can't fault my four-poster room as it was impeccable. The hair dryer was very low power which is annoying but not a complaint. My real complaint for breakfast. For £25 I […] would have expected much better. I had it in my room and the bacon was nothing but fat and I'd asked for my eggs to be runny and they were cooked straight through. Hotel beautiful but service not so good. Waited 35 minutes for waiter to bring drinks to 4 of us in an empty bar! Pre ordered breakfast arrived at room very late & very wrong. Nothing that was ordered was on the plate!!!! I refused to pay the 12.5% discretional service charge.

We were not in the hotel for very long, however what we did see of the hotel was lovely. The rooms were clean and nicely presented.

Disappointing. A great location but a hotel living on it's past. My room had a defective shower which was obviously known about because the staff had tried to bodge a fix. Unsurprisingly it broke when I tried to use it. Drinks were ridiculously overrpriced in the hotel bar/lounge and the service was spotty at best. Friends in another room wanted to […] use the (advertised) air conditioning as all the rooms were quite warm. No can do. The hotel had turned off the air-con in all rooms and just gave my friend a shrug of the shoulders when they enquired. Angler is a good name for the hotel. Once they've got you on the hook. . . . Lovely hotel and location. Staff very polite and friendly. Bar drinks very overpriced and room far too hot and couldnt use aircon as they had switched to heating!

Overall, a comfortable stay. Our room had a nice view of the river. The food and drinks at the hotel are pretty expensive for what you get.

Hotel has an excellent location and outlook - being close to the centre of Marlow and 'on the water' with lawn and terrace directly overlooking the river. Staff are courteous, helpful and attentive. The only two caveats are (1) for anyone requiring anything approaching a lively atmosphere - look elsewhere as this appears a sedate establishment and (2) […] beware of the 'hidden' additional charges everywhere - such as the 12.5% discretionary service charge added to every (already over priced) drink and £1 charitable donation added to the final bill. In all, individual elements were of a very good standard but they failed to gel and provide 'an experience'. I know this is subjective but that's exactly the feeling we were left with - something was missing and we could not work out what it was or why it was absent. It was almost as if the hotel was still searching for its identity. This coupled with the ubiquitous dscretionary charges meant that the hotel did not, as a whole, really live up to expectations. did not make up beds, very pricy could not get simple breakfast no free coffee in the am charged for newspaper given the price should be free the ceiling leaked on the bed and they did not even change the sheets...... Hotel in lovely position on the banks of River Thames..walking distance to shops, pubs and walks along river. Hotel room had a few problems which were sorted promptly , TV didnt work, fridge was not cold, and lights difficult to sort out. There was no lift to our room but staff good, friendly and efficient. We enjoyed our stay.

A very nice hotel near the centre of Marlow. The reception staff very very welcoming & helpful. A small problem with our TV (couple of scrambled channels) which they tried to addressed very quickly however didn't come up with a satisfactory solution however this wasn't a big deal for us. A great place for a nice get away.

Have known this hotel for over 30 years and under different ownership. This was first visit under new Macdonald ownership. Restaurant area was completely changed. Main restaurant area (Aubergine) now franchised: decor might be AOK in Chelsea but out of keeping with this location. The beautiful curved sweep of original restaurant now "squared off" ...shame. […] Bar still as original (panelled) and comfortable. Piano in evening nice touch. Hotel's own restaurant (Bowaters) AOK but in the less attractive dining area. Restaurant Service intrusive (frequent and unsolicited re-filling of wine glasses). Room very comfortable. 1st: ik raad een ander nooit iets aan; mijn smaak kan een andere zijn. 2: Het hotel is plezierig; ligt geweldig leuk en het personeel is vriendelijk. Onze kamer was ruim en prettig ingericht, maar een groot minpunt met name voor een kamer op de bovenste verdieping tijdens zonnige dagen was het niet functioneren van de airconditioning.
