Jolly Hotel Madison Towers - New York

The Hotel Jolly is normally my home away from home but this was a terrible stay with little sympathy or help from the staff. I am afraid I need to find a new home in New York!

small old hotel needs remodeling, brochure talked of restaurant which no longer operated, periodic unexplained loud buzzing noise, ripoff priced breakfast

It served its purpose and was clean.

Dated and not As advertised

The type of room we requested was not available so we were upgraded to a suite at no additional charge. The room was neat and clean and comfortable. The staff was pleasant and positive every time I dealt with them. I travel to NYC on a regular basis and have paid a lot more money for rooms of much lesser quality.

The hotel has changed ownership from italian chaion to Spanish owners. There is no coffee service in the mezzanine any longer, no small breakfast which used to be included in room rate, and when I needed my boarding pass, they told me to go to Staples across the street. They were not able to print anything for me. Staples opened at 11 that day and I […] had to leave for the airport earlier. There was no extra quilt or blanket for the bed, and one of the elevators seemed to be not [properly working as made strange noises and movements on the way up and down. i had booked a room w/ king bed nd accessible bathroom. I left my luggage early in the day and checked in later (around 11) 1. I had to wait until they figured out what room I could occupy 2. my room had a double bed and NO accessible shower 3. good place to stay but the mini bar was empty and when I asked the attendant he told me to go to the corner store, no nice but is a very good hotel nice cozy rooms very comfortable amazing bathrooms and very clean.

Nice room. Clean. Good Location. However, you do get a hotel room to sleep and that was not possible, my husband and I slept 4 hours max because there was very loud noise in the pipes (I understand from friends that in New York this happens a lot in the winter months due to heating). I will definately be back to stay at this hotel. The rooms were clean & reasonably roomy... Total value for money! Highly recommend this hotel at NYC!

This was my second time in New York and we picked this hotel because the price was in my budget. This hotel has the best location because it's 4 blocks away from Grand Central. The only thing that worried me was when I read the reviews is talked about having trouble with the air and the front desk being rude. Well, most of that is true. The night clerk […] was super and very good with checking us in and was very pleasant to work with. I wish I can say the same for the day shift. The front desk in the morning wasn't very nice and very rude and abrupt when questions were asked about receipts, directions, ect. In our room the air hardly worked at all. Thank God we are on the 12th and we could open the window and the cold air cooled of the room, but even it being in the low 40's is still would got warm. The heat worked great and you had to warm up the room it wouldn't take long. Also, our room was very, very small but if you only have two people it's really perfect. The best thing about this hotel is a great location and the bathroom was very nice. All in all, I would stay here again but I would make sure it's the winter! Devamı

I came to New York on Jan 12 of 19 days, I selected Jolly Hotel because it is closed my school. I went to NY for short course and traveling. Finaly, I found the location of this hotel is very good, it is very close the Grand Central and the library. And it is easy to go to 5 Ave. I knew this hotel is very old, but it looks clean and nice. This was a quickly booked job/ interview tomorrow kind of reservation. Fairly inexpensive for n.y. Night mgr was exceptionally polite ,personable and charming. We were instantly upgraded.Room was large. Immaculate! The bathroom was bigger than most Manhattan apts! Quiet sleeping-no street noise. The room seemed pleasant. Although didn't look exactly like in the pictures. Bathroom was gorgeous! Though a big minus was that the radiator didn't work! It eather blew really cold air or really hot air, so it was unpossible to sleep without eather freezing or sweating like a pig. Beds weren't as comfortable as we had hoped. Staff was friendly. Friendly enough staff, but slow to provide clothes hangers - in the end I went and got them myself. Also, the bed position had been changed so the bedside light could only be switched off by getting out of bed, stubbing toes on furniture going back to bed and getting up in the morning. Decent Hotel in a great location.Half a block away from ICON parking lot if you want to self park.5 minute walk to Grand Central Station if your site seeing and want to use the subway to get around. Also very close to Times Square.Regular Rooms are very small ask for an upgrade to a deluxe room. I know you get what you pay for but at $300 a night, a tiny room facing the air shaft is not what I bargained for. Air shaft may be an exaggeration, but the room view of the roof with its noisy mechanical air conditioning units was not for a comfortable night. In reading some of the reviews prior to my arrival I was a little nervous. I was pleasantly surprised by the hotel. Great location, very nice room and very helpful staff.

everything was fine just that the parking alone within my 15hrs of stay cost me about 95 to 100usd. which i think it was very bad and cheating, so i think the hotel management need to do something about it.

This is a quiet, simple refuge in NY. Great loc by metro. Walking to tons of good stuff. I booked a reservation last minute and walked in 30 minutes afterwards. It was easy, no problem. You get what you pay for. And I feel I paid a dang good price. Easy, cool folk. Nice large bathrooms. VERY comfortable rooms for the price.

The Jolly was in a great location! I was not overly excited about the condition of the room. The blinds were all broken and we had to rig them in order to be able to shut them in the bathroom. The room is small but clean and the staff was helpful. We were happy overall with our stay.

This was perhaps the worst hotel experience I've ever had -- and that's saying a lot because I've traveled regularly for business for over 20 years. I should have known from the surly greeting from the front desk staff. I had 6 interactions with staff members and all were at best cold, most hateful. The only pleasant and beneficial experience was with […] the day bellman. He works for tips and was very helpful and accommodating. The room was dingy, smelled particularly strangely, all of the furniture was, to be kind, worn -- even the lamps were all bent as if there had been a brawl in the room recently. I asked to change rooms and was to that I couldn't. No reason was offered or given when I asked. There was also a problem with the plumbing system that resulted in very loud banging resonating from the pipes between 3:00 and 4:00 a.m. Do yourself a favor, pick another hotel. Hotel rooms were comfortable a bit smaller in size. The location was great. Easy walking distance to Grand Central Station, Times Square, Rockefeller Center and other attractions. Staff were helpful. Our stay was enjoyable and hope to return someday.

Pros: Fantastic location, porters really helpful and friendly Cons: Dated furniture / decorations, scruffy (wallpaper hanging off walls), tiny room, couldn't turn heating off (neither could porter) so had to keep window open so noisy at night. Do not book this hotel. The service is bad and the rooms extremely hot and noisy. The cleaning lady vacuum-cleaned the floors at 10am!

The hotel is ideally situated for all the usual tourist sights in Manhatten. Wood stay again.

Location in midtown great, decor somewhat dated (although bathroom looked renovated). Old-style heat / air conditioning unit, effective but noisy. Nice big desk / workspace. For what was paid, the value was good.

Stayed at the Madison Towers a number of tiem & have never been dissappointed. Great location !!! Great Staff !!! Great Hotel !!!

I couldn't sleep for even 10 minutes.I felt like I am in a cage in the middle of street.The whole night ,the sounds of siron, horns & cars ,didn't stop . The next they ,I was so sleepy couldn't do anything . My whole business trip went down the drain because of that .

The hotel and surrounding area was very nice. However, the customer service made experience a bad one!! We have never been treated so badly at a hotel - EVER!

I love the location of this hotel. its right in the same neighborhood i do my business in. The hotel is going thru some updatting right now and it never got in my way. I love this place !

I spend about 10 nights per month in NYC, every month, and although I have my favorite places I like to try other spots when the rates start to climb inthe Fall. This was one of the worst hotels I have every stayed in, from the moment I checked in until I left. The only "updating" or maintenance that has been done in the past 25 years is to the bathrooms. […] I had a tiny room that stunk of old cigarettes, even though it is a non-smoking hotel, an old tired hard bed with blankets and linens that have holes in them. The room had an old desk with a chair too low sit in and type. There are NO amenities, no bottled water, in-room safe, no room service, no internet, old TV's with limited channels. If I wanted to feel comfortable or safe, I had to go to sit at the Moonstruck Diner across the street. I asked to be moved to an "updated room" and offered to pay more. They would not do it although they were not sold out. I was told when I booked that the rooms had bathrobes and safes. Mine did not, so I asked for a robe and was told I could buy one for $75!! Seriously, do not waste your time or money here. Its a small step above a youth hostel and not as much fun. Devamı
