The Washington Inn Hotel - Oakland

It is a nice clean hotel, which is very close to BART. So, Going to downtown SF is very easy. I will recommend this hotel. If you are reading this note, just book this hotel before it is too late.

The room was small, there were stains all over the carpet, which it looks very old. The blanket is a down feather blanket w/ no duvet over it. There was a ball of men's black hair on the office chair. I should gave said something but I don't like to complain, but all in all it was horrible. I couldn't sleep due to being paranoid there would be bed bugs. […] Plus there customer service was poor. My boyfriend left some magazines there, he called their staff shortly after we left & they mentioned they would hold them, well when we went back for them the person working stated he just got to work & didn't have them therefore couldn't help us. Well, he remembered the name of the staff member who he spoke to on the phone and told the employee, which he called him & then he was able to get them. Too much work from our part. The continental breakfast is cheap turnovers in a bag & fresh bread w/ jam. It seems that they are going out of business from what I noticed because of the poor maintenance, minimal quality of breakfast, poorly trained staff which may be understaffed. Devamı

Overall, I had a pleasant stay. The good: it is an interesting hotel, in a good location if you have meetings at the convention center or a nearby location. The hotel was clean and the room was nice. I was on the top floor (4) and I was ablet o open the window. I was a bit surprised when I first saw the hotel because it looked really nice on the picture, […] but when I arrived, SRO crossed my mind. Once inside, the service was great, and the hotel is nice. The air/heat was a little loud at night. My overall rating is a 4 out of 5 which in my mind means it was not bad but not excellent. Devamı

This hotel has an "old-world meets modern" feel to it which I loved. The windows actually open. What I did not love was the loud party in the lobby/bar that was in full swing at midnight when I returned after my event. I literally felt like I was intruding just to walk thru to the elevator to get to my room. Also, there is not much sound proofing so […] I was jolted out of sleep several times by folks talking and laughing in the hallways at 3 and 4 am. Even tho my room was on the 3rd floor I could here the announcer/MC/DJ on the loudspeakers. Check on events happening at this hotel or request a room not directly above the bar. Devamı

There was one computer in the lobby. However, it was set up so that you could not use it. I had to go to the hotel next door and pay by the minute to use a PC. Noisy Friday night party on the first floor vibrated up the stairway. Papertowels near the sink, not cloth ones.

Hotel is in a great area but is run down and staff is apathetic. When we called for a cab they called their buddy who dives a cab, who refused to turn on his meter and tried to charge us a very high flat rate. (against cabbie rules). We had to go across the street to the Marriott to get a fair cab driver which was 1/4 the price. Bathroom was particularly […] gross, room was clean but very small. I did not like this hotel. It was in a seedy section of Oakland and was very noisey at night. Carpet was stained un room and lights were hard to operate

I would not stay here again. The light bulb was burned out in the bedside lamp. Neither of the space heaters provided worked in this chilly room. The room overlooked a bar and a Smart and Final parking lot the latter of which was full of idling semis early the next morning. This hotel is a grand old lady that has been taken care of. I loved the atmosphere as you come in the entrance. I was there for a Mary Kay conference, so you know there were a lot of women in all the hotels! The staff was friendly and helpful. Our rooms were not ready yet, but they took our luggage into backroom, which freed us up to go ahead and check […] into the conference and park the car. We had originally booked a two bed room, but they had run out of them, so they gave us two single rooms for the same price! The room was nice with the high high ceilings of the era and large windows that actually opened! The room was clean, the bed comfortable and the noise level inside the hotel was nice and quiet. I liked the sink being in the room as it freed up the bathroom and 2 people could get ready at the same time. Breakfast was ok...I have certainly had a lot worse. Checkout was a breeze and again they held our luggage until our conference was out. It rained that morning, but a quick dash across the street beats a long trek in the rain any time. Staff was very friendly and service oriented. Meal I had from the restaurant was excellent. Feel that hotel with a few additional employees would do well to promote the restaurant more.

This past month I had to stay at the Washinton Inn Hotel to take the Bar Exam which was administered in the Oakland Convention Center right across the street. All I can say is that the hotel was wonderful, my stay was wonderful, and the staff was wonderful. Previous reviews had scared me a little because they mentioned that you could hear the train […] and that you could hear people coming out of the Brewery next door, but that is all nonsense. My room was quiet in the evening, with the exception of some straglers walking down the street at night and yes the train but the train was not close enough to really be a nuisance more of a far away muffled tone. I personally loved the stay. Every day I would come back to a freshly cleaned room, with good pressure in the shower, and a mini fridge in the room. I'm not going to say it was a five star hotel because it was the week of the Oscars and I wasn't able to watch them on ABC because the TV would not receive the signal for ABC and the mini fridge did make some clicking and clanging sounds. However, my overall experience was great. I needed to study for my Bar Exam while I was there and my neighbors were nice and quiet, I guess many of them were probably taking the Bar as well. The breakfast in the morning was mostly carbohydrates so I skipped that but the coffee was tasty and always hot. Also, I needed a taxi at 3:00am to get to my flight at 5:00am at Oakland Airport and the front desk person was very helpful in arranging for taxi service two days in advance. The taxi arrived on time and I made it to the airport with time to spare. The hotel is two blocks from the nearest Bart Station which will get you into San Franciso in fifteen minutes flat (no exaggeration). So if you want to pay less than the Marriot nearby, which will easily deduct $400.00 a day from your bank account for essentially the same accomodations, or the $300.00 that they will take from Bar Exam takers (which they claim is their s"student rate") you may want Devamı

Stayed here for three nights while attending an event at the convention center, and am so happy with my decision to stay here instead of with the inflated prices across the street! I was closer to my hotel room than the people staying in the conference hotel attached to the center, and I personally found the Washington Inn to be a great deal more charming. […] I lived in Europe for years, and it reminded me of all the hotels we used to stay in; I guess the sink in the room and the wardrobe instead of a closet might throw people otherwise. Okay, the tv was pretty crappy with only 6-7 channels and yes, an actual VCR(!), but I wasn't there to watch tv. The bed was comfortable, the room was very clean. I also appreciated their happy hour downstairs with decent beers and wines, and 50% off appetizers. Breakfast - meh. Wonder bread, cellophane-wrapped "croissants," and cereal. A number of great restaurants are within easy walking distance, though, so there are options. I'd definitely stay here again and recommend it to others. Devamı

This hotel was not bad. When we first saw it from the outside it looked a bit old and sketchy but it defiantly proved us wrong. Our room was small nut perfect for me and my husband. Yes there was a sink in our room but who cares. In all it looked clean. The room it self was clean and the bathroom too. There was a black stain by the door but as long […] as I didnt step on it it wasn't a big deal. The man at the front counter was very nice and gave us good tips on parking so that was a huge plus. The free breakfast was good and for being free. I did forget my earrings there so the next day when I remembered I went back as the room was being cleaned out (i remember thinking "great there probably gone") but they weren't. I will be honest. My co-worker and i stayed at this hotel and had very different rooms. Mine was the room you see in the pictures. CUTE and perfect view. Wonderful space. His - was a small room with what looked like a shower stall...he was not happy. Parking is awesome. Meters are off from 6pm until 8am so perfect - breakfast was OK...would have liked […] to have more protein options... Hotel is older - historic - but so cute. Next door to some great pubs and shops... I have already booked a second visit as I am in Oakland one week out of the month. I will be back - hopefully I get the same room! Devamı

The room was fine and the free continental breakfast is always a bonus in my book but I was on the 2nd floor on the 10th street side on a Friday night. I had to be at work early Sat morning and the noise outside was insane until about 2am. No thank you. What a great little hotel, in the heart of Oakland, Staff, services couldn't have been better. Lobby bar, Restaurant were perfect. Even the free breakfast was just right to make my stay comfortable, relaxing, totally enjoyable.

Nice old hotel. Conveniently close to Bart, across from the Convention Center, Chinatown and some great eateries...especially "B", a top-notch restaurant. No TV-Satelite during my stay eventhough I was told at 7:00pm on a Saturday, they were on the roof working on it...right. My toilet didn't flush my first day, again told "they were working on it." […] Room was tiny but more modern and upgraded than expected. Nice staff but not sure about their innate expediency to resolve concerns. Oh well, clean, comfy beds and a good value. Devamı

For the price and location it's a good deal. Hotel is older, but has a very European feel. The small understated restaurant Seison in the hotel has delicious food. The hotel staff seemed a little disinterested, but not terrible. The restaurant staff was wonderful. The decor is dated, but clean and beds were comfortable.

This was our second stay at the Washington Inn, and we were reminded why we came back -- courteous service, great value for the money, and terrific location for all the things we needed to do in Oakland. Our room was, again, comfortable and clean. Staff were helpful about economical parking options. In-room amenities were just fine. This hotel reminds […] us of a number of nice little European hotels we have stayed in. It's definitely not a high-end chain, but it has much more character and suits us well. We'll be back! Devamı

During my stay, the bar and restaurant was closed. rooms are small, bathroom tub is a nice size. Old tube TV and sink in room with the bed. All I can say is it wasn't expensive and the room matched the rate. I wish the bar was open though. I would recommend because it has a old historic feel to the place. The Washington Inn was exactly how you described it in your advertising. I liked it particularly because i wanted to be close to a Bart Station, I wanted to be close to downtown Oakland, in a safe neighborhood with decent restaurants within walking distance. the hotel room was clean and modern and everything worked flawlessly. This hotel is in a convenient location close to the 12th St-Oakland City Center BART station, Old Oakland, Downtown, Chinatown, and the Jack London District. It is in an older building, so it looks more run-down than the newer chain hotels. The rooms are small (think New York City) and not immaculately clean (our comforters had stains). The sink was […] outside of the bathroom and in the main room, which made it awkward if someone had to use it while the other person was sleeping. Most of the TV's channels did not come through. The in-room safebox was non-functioning. It was nice, though, that they offered a complimentary continental breakfast and the free wifi was fast. This is a fine old hotel, restored to both simplicity and near perfection - and I can only be grateful it was restored, saved. Sink in the main room and other authentic elements made this an atmosphere already waiting from me, rather than one I had to get used to. If you like vintage, small rooms, no tub, sink in seperate area, linen was worn. Good location.

Nice hotel with character in downtown Oakland, price can't be beat. We booked a suite for the space however the description on hotels.com was not accurate and the living area was missing the television and microphone that was mentioned in the description. One other thing to note is that the suite does not have a tub, hotel staff advised us only some […] of the standard rooms have a tub and it is available by request. The elevator is antique... neat. Breakfast was pretty shabby though, I don't think Costco muffins should count as a continental breakfast. Devamı

While the Washington Inn has characteristics denoting a once-comfortable, charming hotel, it has long passed its prime. The rooms are tiny, crowded, outdated and inconvenient, with a pedestal sink in your room, separate from the bathroom. I could not plug in my coffee pot - had to move it to the floor to find a three-pronged plug that would accommodate […] it. This hotel is an older, renovated hotel, and still has some of the older character. The lobby is not that welcoming, but the room was pleasant. The restaurant had closed by the time I arrived. The room was smaller but had room for a desk, which was helpful. The pedestal sink was in the bedroom. The lobby here is nice, but the rest elevator is scary looking and the rooms, while they put nice furniture in there, the tub, etc is all run down.

Had a 4th floor corner suite that was so much More then I expected, had a great time. A short walk To the Paramount Theater and a great beer and dinner next door. Will do this again.

The TV got very limited channels which is okay but the major networks didn't come in. There is a step down into room which could lead to falls.

there were problems with the dates on our reservation (my fault not theirs) but they were very helpful and went beyond the expected to resolve them in a great way. very close to BART parking across the street for $15 and walking distance to Yoshi's the great jazz venue

Friendly staff, central location. My room was clean, bed comfortable, shower hot. What else do you need?

great location. everything is close, like the BART, Bars, Chinatown, restaurants, just perfect! I wish they have a full bar inside the hotel. I was hoping for one ;)

Location is great if you want to be downtown. Close to lake and bay. BART easy to access and to use from hotel. Free breakfast a little skimpy, but, hey, it's free. Nice people at front desk. Helpful. Would stay here again, especially for the price.

We had a two night stay here with our two small children. Upon arrival we were told there was no crib available to us. The explanation was that there was not sufficient space and the liability insurance for babys in cribs was to high??? So we shared the two double beds with the kids. Also unavailable to us was a parking permit for the hotel car park. […] We had to leave our car on the street. This was a little disconcerting in the neighborhood - but had no problems. Finally we had to change rooms as the toilet flush was broken. Otherwise rooms were clean and quiet. Nicely done out for an older style place. Lovely foyer/lobby and simple but good breakfast available to us. Probably wouldn't be back with the kids - just a bit small in the rooms for us. But fine for business or couples. Devamı

This is my second stay. The beds are incredibly comfortable. We were far enough from the "occupy Wall Street" demonstration that we didn't know it was even 4 blocks away. The continental breakfast is all carbohydrate, which is great unless you have to use your brain for the Baby Bar. The juices tasted awesome and the food looked fresh. I went somewhere […] else for a protein breakfast. Downside - the shower didn't like staying at a constant temperature. I had a face full of soap when the hot water became scalding hot. I had to fumble around and fight with the cloth shower curtain in order to get the water temp corrected. Over all, if you're looking for a peaceful quiet stay, this is the best bang for your dollar.
