Wolf-Dietrich Altstadthotel & Residenz - Salzburg

Our favorite hotel of our 5-city tour of Central/Eastern Europe. We stayed across the street from the lobby in a newly renovated room. It was so large and clean. The windows had switch activated shades that blocked out the outside world if needed. BIG bathroom with towel warmers. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Wolf-Deitrich. The staff was friendly and very helpful in recommending tours and meals. The room was great as we had our older daughter with us and they put an extra twin bed in the room. Room was spacious with plenty of closet and drawer space. Conveniently located - a few minute walk to old town and various buses […] and trams. Lobby was comfortable and breakfast buffet was great - nice to wake up and know you don't have to go out right away. Overall a great experience and we would love to return. Devamı

I think this hotel could be very nice as the room was spacious, nice marble bathroom and finished to a high standard. My main reason for the poor rating is that it is currently still being refurbished. The workmen thus run across the scaffolding right outside your window (I'm glad I shut the blinds!) and were working on the other side of the wall. I […] was thus woken up by hammering, drilling and cementing at 9 am. On a more positive note, once the hotel is finished, I'm sure it will get my 4 star vote as it's in a nice location with great breakfast and free DVDs for rent. For the time being, I'd suggest you stipulate staying in the main building (where the reception is) which is not under refurbishment. Service could be a little more friendly though. Devamı

walking distance to all in Salzburg, nice staff, great pool for the kids, videos in the lobby, coffe and cake hour in the afternoon, and a great breakfast buffet. really a nice hotel, great value

My stay at this hotel was nothing short of fantastic. From the welcome when I first checked in until the checkout date. I was very pleased that I chose this hotel and would be keen to stay here again if given the opportunity to return to Salzburg. The staff, the room and the breakfast was all that I could have wanted.

Highly recommend for a family of 5 if suite is available. great location and convenient parking.

This small hotel is totally charming. The whole interior is quite clean, although some signs of age and wear are evident. It is very well modernized (for instance practically all the lights are on motion sensors) but some older doors, fixtures, decorations and furniture are maintained giving a historical atmosphere. Our room had no central thermostat, […] only a heater under the window; I could see it being harsh in summer but in spring it was fine. Loved the (firm) bed; the desk and shower stall were quite small though, only just functional. Buffet breakfast was fantastic. We didn't get time to use the pool or sauna but they looked really nice and inviting. We had only one short evening in Salzburg but we were able to quickly walk to the old town. Plenty of restaurants and a grocery in walking distance. Staff were friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay here again! Devamı

Very welcoming hotel. Great atmosphere in the lobby. Afternoon tea with cake each day. Big dvd library for use with the in`room dvd player. Easy and interesting walk to the old town.

DVD player in your room and you can select the movie you want from the reception. Excellent SPA and Pool. In the middle of all sight seeing A very good breakfast , excellent service there

enjoyed breakfast and the spa was lovely. This is not a 4* hotel. We were over the road and had 2 rooms. My wife stayed in a very drab room decoration wise. There was a hole in the bathroom sink which had been filled with some foam filler and there was a hole it the wall where the curtain retainer had been snapped off. My room with the other 2 girls […] was considearbly better but 4*? come on! Whoever measured up for the curtains in both rooms didn't know what they were doing-they didn't cover the windows and light streamed in all night from the well lit street. In my room I got bumped out of the double bed which was quite comfy and slept on an uncomfortable single bed next to the window which was very draughty and bathed in streetlight and had the most appalling synthetic duvet. I know this for a fact because it was similar to an appalling duvet my daughter uses at home. When I complained about the above and a couple of things I can't recall I was told "I'mm sorry about that we'll have someone look into it" This might have been avoided if someone had "looked into it" before we stayed there. I had really wanted to enjoy staying there but will never return. This is my first review, written simply because I felt so strongly about how the reality differed from whatg I had expected. I did take the trouble to read some of the commetns in the visitors book though and they seemed to love it-so what do I know. Devamı

We spent 3 nights here in December and loved the hotel. The room was quiet, warm, clean and well appointed with a big bathroom. Breakfast was a wide ranging and well presented buffet served in a lovely dining room. The room rate also included afternoon tea and cakes though we were never back in time to experience this. The rate also included free use […] of their spa - a pool, steam room and sauna. The hotel borders a lovely street with interesting shops and restaurants and is a 5 minute walk to the Old Town. The hotel staff was incredibly kind. We dropped our luggage off becuause we beat check-in, and when we came back they had carried our two huge bags across the street and up to our rooms (no elevator). There was construction because they were currently installing an elevator, so the stairs were a hike. I thought for the price I paid our room would be […] much bigger, but it was pretty small. Clean, looked nice, yes. But small. The continental breakfast was great, and again, had very nice staff. The location of the hotel is great too. You have a short walk to the main square across the river, with plenty of shops along the way (if you're into that). There is also a grocery store nearby. While the staff and amenities were nice, I'm sure I could find a better deal in Salzburg. Devamı

Excellent hotel in a wonderful location with outstanding service! Very child friendly, we will definitely go back!

Stayed here for 3 nights. First of all I was impressed by the size of our room. Very large with updated bathroom. Very clean. Great location. Half way between train and old city. If you are taking train with luggage I would recommend taxi as is about 15 min brisk pace through questionable areas. The location was excellent. It was close to the Mirabell palace and the Panorama Tour buses for day trips out of the city. It was close to a good tourist street, Linzergasse, and an ATM. It was a short walk to the old town section of Salzburg. The breakfast was magnificent and included scrambled eggs from fresh eggs, lox, soft-boiled eggs, fresh chunk […] cut up fruit (including mangoes, pinnapple, apples, etc.), good coffee, pastries, hearty breads and more. It was the best breakfast we had in the three cities (Vienna, Salzburg and Prague) of our travels. The room was clean and comfortable. The only problem was the lack of an elevator. We were in the annex across the street and we had to walk up 4 flights of steps to get to our room, a daunting task with aching legs after walking all over the city all day. The reception carried our heavy bags up and down at check-in and check-out. At times the street outside had noisy people in the middle of the night, even though the hotel was on a quiet street. The staff was courteous and helpful when asked. They were helpful in advising us how to handle the buses. They did miss a wake up call we had scheduled for 4:30 am to catch a train but we had our phone alarm set so it wasn't a problem. The reception clerk said that the prior clerk had not informed him of the call and he apologized for missing it. He was helpful in advising us that we didn't need to be at the train station so early and in calling a taxi for us to the train station. Since we had not used Hotels.com before, I tried to get a confirmation from the hotel directly but I never received a reply to my email asking for direct confirmation. However, they had our reservation when we arrived and confirmed that we had paid in advance. Overall this was a good, clean hotel with a great location, a tremendous breakfast, and a reasonable price. We would stay there again. Devamı

Overall this was a good hotel. We were in the residence across the road from the main hotel. Rooms were clean. Shower was good. We stayed for one night. Fan only in the room - no aircon from what we could see. Breakfast wasn't the best for a 4*. No lift in the residences so if you struggle with steps it might not be the best choice. This was a fine hotel in a quiet section of town. The staff were all friendly and professional. There was a tasty, complimentary afternoon tea service in the bar area to the left of the front desk. We would stay there again.

Good location. Nice spa. However, no AC. We went when it was 32 degrees C outside so it was very uncomfortable without an AC.

I spent three nights at the Wolf Dietrich, however I was in their annex section almost directly across the street from the main hotel. I was on the fourth floor with a view of a courtyard of surrounding buildings and a nice tree covered mountain. Since there was no elevator in this building, it required walking four stories up and down from the room […] to the street level. The man who carried my bag to my room was huffing and puffing by the time we reached it. The room was decorated in a kind of mod-euro style--red colored walls, arty lamps and a bed directly on the floor. The bed was about 12 inches from the floor. You could literally roll out of bed in the morning. Parking for the car was a large car park located "in the mountain." The location was about six blocks away, so I asked for "valet parking." They did this for me on arrival and at departure. An extra tip expense plus daily parking charge for the car situation, but worth it. I did not use the car while in town. The staff was friendly and helpful. They use a tour group (Panarama) that is very good and picks up at the hotel. The tour ticket(s) sold at the desk require a cash transaction. The breakfast (included each day) was excellent and not crowded. There is a very good "Austrian food" restaurant just around the corner from the hotel. Good basic food at a reasonable price. The place is called "The Old Fox" in german. It can get a little busy because it is a popular place. The hotel is in a good, quiet location and in walking distance of most everything, including the bridge to the "Old Town." Overall, a nice hotel, good food and attentive staff, but watch out for the other things--four story walk up to your room (think hot weather!) and the car park thing. Devamı

We had an unfortunate problem with our passports that we discovered as we were checking in to the Wolf Dietrich last week. I can't say enough about the terrific way that the staff worked with us to get this solved. They went far, far above and beyond what was required to help us resolve this and enjoy our stay in Salzburg. They really took the burden […] on themselves to fix the problem. A wonderful hotel, close to all the sights of Salzburg, but in a quiet enough location to rest and recharge. Upon arrival the hotel staff were immediately helpful and friendly, answering all the questions we had. Our room was in the hotels Residenz (which does not have lift facilities, but we saw this as good work out after sampling daily the cuisine […] of Salzburg!), the room was spacious and comfy, with all the facilities to make for a comfortable stay. And even at 11pm when I realized I had not packed a shower cap of all things the helpful staff with ease where able to provide me with one. In the morning after a restful night we went down for breakfast, there was a great selection from: pastries to fruit salad, cooked breakfast to yogurts, there was something to suit everyone. As we had very good weather during our stay and as a result the room did become warm. However I was fully aware on booking the hotel that there was no air con, however without request we were provided with a fan which cooled the room down to a comfortable level. The hotel could not have been in a better location, the hotel is located on a street that is managed by bollards so it is quiet and traffic is to a minimal, not even 5 minutes walk down the cafe, restaurant and bakery filled street will bring you to one of the main bridges leading over the river to old town. Wolf-Dietrich also offered a spa and swimming pool (a luxury in Salzburg) the facilities where fantastic with a mid size pool (which was quiet when we went) sauna and steam rooms, with towels and lockers provided alongside. Or if swimming is not your thing, then the hotel provide complimentary tea and cakes in the afternoon (which we witnessed but never participated in due to scoffing cakes and Mozart balls throughout the day!) I could not praise this hotel any higher, the staff are wonderfully accommodating with a “nothings too much” attitude, making our first trip to Salzburg comfortable and very pleasant. It is a great hotel with the most outstanding service. The staff were helpful friendly, and could not be more accommodating helping us with, excellent dinner recommendations, trips and advice. Breakfast is good with a great selection of food, and free afternoon tea and cakes in the hotel lobby is complementary. Reception & general service OK but room not so much tired-as dead. The bedroom was only just big enough, the bed was ok, but the general decor was 2-3 years overdue for a makeover. The carpet was possibly clean but was so badly stained and marked as to leave some doubt. On a positive note, the room overlooked the cloisters of a church and was quiet. […] Free coffee and cake was on offer in the lounge in the afternoon. The hotel wasn't very busy so they either have lots of poor room or just offer them for internet booking. There must be hundreds of better hotels at the price in Salzburg. Devamı

The hotel staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Breakfast was very good. The location was very convenient, allowinf us to easily walk to all the sights. There was street noises present with the sindows opened; however, the room was quite when the windows wer closed.

Excellent staff, nothing was too much trouble,and the hotel has an excellent pool and sauna facilities. Cant wait to return

Good hotel for the rate. Very quiet position, convenient to the old town (10 minutes walk). Breakfast was good and the staff generally were very efficient. Only drawback is there is no air conditioning in rooms so would be hot in summer.

This hotel was simply lovely! The staff were so friendly and professional; it was a nice change of pace from the rude staff at German hotels I'd stayed at prior to Salzburg. The lobby area of the hotel is very pretty and comfortable. Their free coffee and cake in the afternoons was a nice touch. My room, even though it was located at the end of a […] windy, circuitous path on the main level, had a lot of light and windows that opened up all the way. I could even hear birds! (in a good way) You must stay here when visiting Salzburg, unless you want to pay a bunch more to stay at the luxurious Hotel Sacher. Devamı

We were very impressed with this hotel and thought we got excellent value for money. Every member of staff were helpful and polite and the breakfast was as good if not better than most hotels we've stayed in. The free spa facilities were a bonus as were the complimentary coffee and cakes every afternoon. We were even invited to these when we returned […] to the hotel to pick up our luggage after we had checked out. As mentioned by other guests, every room has a DVD player and in reception there's a library of about 400 DVDs to choose from. The hotel is an easy walk down Linzergasse to the river and the old town proper were there are plenty of restaurants and bars however our favourite was Zum Fiddeln Affen which is just off Linzergasse. The only thing I would be wary of for older guests is that there is no lift in the Rezidence where we stayed. Devamı

This hotel is a real treasure. The staff couldn't have been nicer, the breakfast was excellent, and the room was beautifully appointed. It's a short 10 minute walk to old town and a quick bus ride from the train station. I would highly recommend staying at this hotel.

Great location and good service. Nice breakfast. Good neighborhood. Just be forewarned...the rooms are VERY small. You will barely have enough room to maneuver. If it's space you're looking for, you'll have to look elsewhere. If it's just a simple place to crash that's clean and safe, you got it made here.

Although the hotel is a little off the beaten path I really loved staying here. The hotel staff was extremely friendly and the amenities at this place were top notch. I would definitely stay here again and would recommend to others.

Great location, nice bed, breakfast, etc. Hotel staff didn't like to look at us or speak when we approached the front desk, but that was a small issue. I would stay there again for my next visit to that area in Rome.

We found the hotel staff to be very friendly and accommodating. Breakfast was fantastic so too was being able to borrow dvd's to help put our little ones to sleep. We were in the residence across the road on the 3rd floor and had no troubles with the stairs (we being 2 children 3 & 4 years old, dad and a 6+months pregnant mum). We stayed accross the road from the hotel and there was no lift so we had to climb stairs. So at check out we had to manage our luggage down the stairs. The air con doesn't work because it is central heating, so we had to open the windows for fresh air. In winter this was freezing and I ended up with serious flu.

My wife and I stayed for two nights at the Wolf Mid October 2010 and found the hotel to be excellent. We had read other reviews regarding staying at the "annex" across the street, which is where we ended up. The only issue we noted was the number of stairs you must climb to reach your room. This does not trouble either of us, however, you may want to […] request a room in the hotel or bag assistance if stairs are not your thing. Otherwise, the room was clean and had all we needed for a comfortable and enjoyable stay. The location was perfect as most sites in town were within easy walking distance. The included breakfast included a nice variety of pastries, meats, eggs and cheeses--all organic and well prepared. The spa was nice but did not include a whirlpool bath, which would have been nice after all the walking. One other note if you have kids with you, there is a section that is clothing optional. The staff was friendly and helpful. This is a great choice if you are looking for a quaint hotel in town. Devamı

From the staff to the breakfast to the spa, this place is a great place to stay! I highly recommend this place!

This hotel is very nice. Can't complain at all. Exceptionally helpful and friendly people on reception. Our bathroom had a big bath with different coloured lights, which was a little unusual, but quite fun. The lift was quite small and often we used the stairs. My mother has mobility problems, but she was fine with waiting patiently for the lift.

This hotel was very convenient located, had an excellent staff who were happy to provide helpful service, a very good breakfast, and was a very comfortable place to stay. Guests also had access to an excellent spa area to recover from a busy day's activities. A wonderful hotel.

Wonderful hotel -- we loved it!! We did know about the 4 flights of stairs and no air conditioning. The stairs were fine, but i would not stay here again in the summer. In another season it woudl be grand. Breakfast was wonderful.
