The Claremont Hotel Club & Spa - Berkeley

The hotel is nice simply because it is a landmark in Berkeley. I would rate this hotel nothing more than a 4 star to be honest. I also was not happy with the excessive parking fee or the fact that they charge a resort fee when the spa or gym etc. was closed at 6pm even before we checked in.

Have seen the hotel in the Berkeley Hills for ever and always thought, "Some day I'm going to visit there." Never did until we stayed there over the weekend. What a relaxing, comfortable, and cruise-like experience. Wonderful staff, great location and grounds, and an exceptional room - quiet, clean, and allergen free!

My stay was awesome!!!! The staff were extremely friendly!! The hotel is beautiful!! The food was unbelieveable!!

This place looked like a great place to spend a couple of days at a spa.....but we were looking for a place to sleep 8 hours. Somewhat pricy for that. The King suite turned out to be a room and the roll-away they provided in place of a sleeper was nothing to write about. Not really surprising they charge extra for parking. More so that the card system […] to exit didn't seem to work for anyone resulting in a three to five minute swiping experience for everyone we observed. Excellent hotel

The hidden 25 dollar resort fee AND a 25 dollar parking fee pushed the hidden cost way above better hotels in area. The tv didnt work and my key didnt work at 1230 am forcin me for 30 minutes to stand behind 3 checkins! Never again. Stay at the Shattuck or even the Durant

Made a quick last minute reservation for this iconic spot near Berkeley. The room was nice, but certainly not at a 4* level. The layout of the hotel makes getting to a number of the rooms fantastically inconvenient. The housekeeping, restaurant and bell staff were lovely. That's the beautiful, or at least partially-beautiful part of our stay. But, we […] will NEVER return because the staff at registration was incompetent, haughty and rude. The only nice person (in four stops by the desk, btw,) was the trainee who I am sure will be indoctrinated into the surly registration staff behavior shortly. It's a lovely place....but in this city, in this era, with a multitude of great hotels and great service, very unpleasant. Sorry Claremont, you need a management customer service refresh. Devamı

The Claremont is what it is. It's a grand old hotel that's seen better days. The restaurant and bar are modern and fun, with great views of the bay. The rooms are small, odd, and un-updated. The walls are thin and the hallway noise really travels. If you're in Berkeley for business, though, where else are you going to stay?

The bad: When I first arrived, there was no signage as to where to park. So I found a place to park near some tennis courts and walked up the steep drive to what appeared to be the front of the building. I took the eleveator from there to the main lobby. When I walked up to the front desk, the person checking me in commented "I can tell from where you […] came that you are parked in the members area. You are going to need to move your car" So I asked her where I should be parked and she said "you can self park in the back of the building" I felt like she was treating me like the help and that I needed to use the back entrance. LOL As she checked me in, she informed me that there is a 24 dollar parking fee, and a 24 dollar resort fee. I get that there are parking fees in San Francisco, but in Berkeley... SERIOUSLY. The hotel is literally 5-10 minutes from the ghetto in Oakland, and there is more than plenty of parking on their property. It isn't like there is little parking (like in San Francisco) and thus you have to pay a premium to park. Furthermore, she failed to tell me that valet parking is included in that fee, and chose rather to tell me to "self park" So I leave the hotel for dinner, and upon coming back, the guy at the back gate (the one where the second class NON MEMBER guests use LOL) informs me that valet parking is included in that fee. So for the second time in the first 2 hours of checking in, I am extremely unhappy about the parking. When I got to my room, I was on the second floor with a dreadful view of the rooftop air conditioners. When I went into the bathroom, there was a big blood spot on top of the toilet of the room. I was disgusted, but I was not touching it. So I left a note for the housekeeper to please address this in the morning. Which she promptly ingnored for the entire 5 day stay. LOL I also found it strange that their concierge was at the property from 9 AM until 2 PM. I was there on business, and never back to the property by 2, and Devamı

Haven't been to the Claremont in about 15 years. Very nice property. I would recommend the Bay side rooms-- great views. Staff very helpful and courteous. Dinner at the Meritage is very good.

Stayed overnight at the Claremont Beautiful hotel, friendly service, room service was prompt, rate was very reasonable. Would definitely stay again and next time longer so I can try the spa.

This is a beautiful. elegant hotel. In warmer weather, the pool and outdoor facilities are amazing. The health club is great and the spa is lovely. The rooms are a bit on the small size but the bed and linens are comfortable. There's a lot of activity in the lobby with all the events going on, but the staff is accomodating and helpful. Beautiful old world style luxury hotel. The room was very comfortable. The staff was exceptional. I was very happy with my stay there!

rooms aren't safe and are left open. my phone was stolen from a private room, so i cannot recommend this hotel.

Everything was great except the spa- its old and dated, with cracked tiles , dingy- services were good, atmosphere not worth the money

The claremont is a beautiful example of classic elegance. It has a wonderful spa and fitness with amazing views of San Francisco. close to berkely campus and oakland airport

One of the nicest places we have stayed. The staff was very attentive to all our needs. The only negative was leaving The Claremont and the problems many people encountered with the gate.

the description of the room on the hotels.com website was different than the room I got. I spoke w/ hotels.com and the hotel management, and I was upgraded to a room with a view, and comped for 2 breakfasts, which was very nice. my advice would be to call the hotel to check the description of the room on hotels.com website and compare to what the hotel […] says about the room. hotels.com was easy to book thru, and customer service helped me w/ the room. the clairmont is beautiful no matter what room you are in! Outstanding older hotel, with excellent workout and spa facilities.

This is an absolutely wonderful hotel with very reasonable rates. I think it would be a equally good price point if they invested a bit more in upgrading and passed the price along to the room rates.

The Claremont is a famous, beautiful hotel with large grounds. If you visit the pool, bring your shoes - it's a hike to get there, but very nice facilities. Also since the gym classes are included in the cost, put some time aside to take advantage of this. The line at the front desk is slow (As has been several times).

Attended a book release party in the hotel and then stayed there that evening. The staff are incredible. Warm and friendly, always asking if you need anything. We prepaid for the room and got a discount, which was really great! The restaurant has a beautiful view out large expansive windows and the food was very yummy! Fresh squeezed orange juice! They […] have wonderful live music at night and the Xmas decorations were very beautiful. Wish we could have stayed longer..... Devamı

There are a lot of hotels in the Berkeley area, but The Claremont is a classic hotel that you must experience.

I loved my stay here. It was extremely luxurious and a treat for me. I made an appointment to go into the spa, since i had paid for it in the hotel services charge anyway, however I had no idea that the spa was separate for men and women. I would have rather just gone to the pool/hot tub area.

The Hotel is very convenient about 12 minutes from the city, the surroundings are beatifull with a great hiking trail in the back, with breathtaking views. We love it.

Nit very relaxing. Local residents can join their tennis and gym which makes parking spaces less available for hotel guests although valet service is available. Dining room small. Sunday Brunch was interesting but the deserts and seafood a great disappointment. Dim sum was fabulous. Room by the elevator which we had was very noisy. Now one of my favorite places to stay, the Claremont Hotel was absolutely lovely. I went to San Francisco for a conference and all hotels near the conference were booked. We stayed at the Claremont and I took BART into the city. The hotel was like an oasis and a much better value than the hotels my colleagues stayed at in the city. I will definitely […] go back! Clean and comfortable rooms. Old and feels it. Very nice spa, workout facilities, and pool. Food there is OK at best but the breakfast is good. Very nice and helpful staff.

1. I felt that charging $24.00 per night to park one's car is outrageous. It is almost as much as I paid per day for my car rental. 2. I had asked the front desk for a wake-up call that I never received. 3. I was disappointed that the hotel failed to have complementary coffee in the morning. Very nice hotel, convenient location. Food very expensive

We chose the Claremont when a huge convention sold out hotel rooms in San Fran, where our daughter was apartment searching. Although it seemed a remote choice, it turned out to be the perfect respite from that hectic pursuit. Clean, comfortable rooms, helpful well-trained staff, nice amenities and surprisingly excellent food all made for a pleasant, […] restful stay. Favorite moment? Poolside, watching little ones play in the kiddie pool, drinking a libation from the pool bar; you could while away whole days there! Biggest surprise? The excellent food in Meritage restaurant. Their local, in-season menu delivered way above expectations. Having live music in both venues was a plus, until Friday night, when the Paragon Bar filled up with locals. So in general, being in a venue with an active sports club felt good (the club is a little worn down in the heels, but it's adequate and if you're a tennis player, this would be heaven, and the pools are beautiful) - it's a positive environment that makes you want to be active. The views were nice and it wasn't hard to get into the city - just bring singles for the tollbooth. Devamı

They seem to have problems booking my requested rooms. Last year, I requested 2 adjoining rooms and ended up with 2 rooms on 2 different floors. This year I requested 2 adjoining rooms, each with two beds. I ended up with 2 rooms in 2 different hallways with one bed in each room.

This beautiful hotel has an elegant, timeless ambience but service bobbles were constant. "Haunted" elevators are cramped, outdated and very scary - I hopped off one after it shook, jerked up and down and wouldn't let me off on the ground floor. Add an additional $24 for parking and another $24 for a resort fee to your nightly rate. Beautiful pool & […] jacuzzi complex was a hit with hubbie and the kids. On-site daytime kid's club with playground and toyhouses is a nice perk. Our bayview distinctive room was spacious. Service problems abounded. Room service order was wrong, sent us to wrong type room on our second weekend stay, waited an eternity for firm pillows, had to go down and get them in my nightgown and STILL had to wait, and heard another guest complain his room he'd booked for one week was occupied when he got there. Don't expect anything (valet, maid service) if you arrive late Sunday night, they let EVERYBODY off but two harried front desk staff. Lots of weddings are held here - loud wedding guests in next door room woke us up at 2 am. Don't expect to get much sleep if you stay on a Saturday night. Would still recommend the Claremont over other Oakland area hotels. Devamı

Grand hotel with lots of modern updates. Excellent pool area (actually 3 pools) with live music and a nice, casual cafe.
