Queen Kapiolani Hotel - Honolulu

Hotel staff was VERY rude. We arrived late at night after a long trip to Hawaii and found that they put me, my 2 year old and my mother in a room with 1 bed and not enough room for a cot. I was overly nice (trying to start my vacation off on a good note) and asked if there was anything else in the hotel. The man helping me told me they had another room […] but we have to pay for the upgrade. It was nearly midnight ... no one else was going to check in ... I joking asked if we could have it for free and he very rudely told me I could pay the upgrade or leave the hotel. Devamı

I stayed here in October 2008 and there have been MANY nice updates to the hotel. It is still a bit dated, but making nice improvements. As always, the staff is amazing and very nice.

Nice convenient location. Staff were very helpful and the valet service is excellent. Made having a car in the city very hand.

This hotel was such a surprise package. It was an awesome location right opposite the zoo. It was lovely waking up to the sound of the monkeys. Everything was great except the lifts, these took forever to arrive. The staff were wonderful, however the staff at the travel agent in the lobby were rude and unhelpful when we tried hiring a car. We were told […] none were available anywhere, we went back to our room, opened the phone book and hit the phones, it no time at all we had arranged car rental ourselves. We had a diamond head view room it was spectacular. It was also a bargain. Would definitely recommend this hotel! Devamı

Excellent location, staff friendly, but very noisy. Could hear normal conversations, doors banging, elevator running, street noise and we were on the 4th floor down the corner from the elevator.

I had asked for early check in when I booked my hotel room and the only way to check and see if you can is to call... again and again and again. needless to say we waiting for our room for about 2 hours. when we finally got our room, it was the wrong one ( I booked a 2 bed room and was given a 1 bed ). rooms are extremely small, outdated, and poorly […] maintained. oh! and only a window a/c unit that doesn't do much. To be fair I am used to staying in higher end hotels, so the outdated furniture and decor in our suite left a bit to be desired. The air conditioning system is old and grumbled, rattled and was loud. Our biggest complain was that their pillows are very uncomfortable. However, if you are looking for a modest priced hotel where you just sleep and head […] out for adventures this is a great option. This was our purpose and it served us well. The small fridge in the room was a bonus. We did visit a friend's suite on a higher floor which had been redone, it had a full kitchen suite and it was quite nice, with a great view of the ocean. The staff is friendly and always helpful. I was impressed with how quick and thorough the house cleaning staff were, and our room was always spotless when we returned. I liked that it is located at the end of the Waikiki strip, across from the zoo, which makes for a quieter location that is a bit out of the way. The pool deck and restaurant have been redone in the last year and it is a great place to sit, read, pop in for a swim and relax. It has a great view as it faces Diamond Head, and you almost forget you are in the middle of the city! It is also perfectly positioned for sun. Devamı

We had a diamond head view, the room was spacious and clean . WiFi worked well and was fast even in our room. Only downside was the windows, not all windows was possible to close. We stayed at floor 14, so the traffic noise wasn't a problem, if the windows are the same on the lower floors I suspect the rooms would be quite noisy.

The hotel's staff is very kind, provides a warm welcome and is willing to help. However it's far to be enough to forget that the hotel is very very old and obsolete. The rooms are not renovated and seems to be dated from 1980's. The rooms, the lobby & the lifts look like to be design in a old-fashion style however you can easily and quickly figure […] out that it is not the design and it is not on purpose! it's because the rooms are old and badly maintained (apparent moisture everywhere in the room)! I booked an Ocean view room. The room I had has the balcony oriented to Diamond Head with one window oriented to the Ocean... Why do they call that an Ocean view room? Ridiculous! What can I tell about the windows? this is the first time I experienced this kind of window where you are even not able to pass an arm through this window! you can't open it, you are just able to lift up the numerous shutters. The bathroom is in a really bad condition, the walls are deeply rotten by moisture! don't need to share further details, you understood, it's explicit. Moreover, the bathroom is infested by ants.... The aircon was an old one, maybe from the first generation of aircon device built in 1960's... Very noisy! so you need to chose between sleep with noise or sleep with heat... up to you! otherwise you can choose the option ice distributor to cool down your bed. Oh yeah! the ice distributor is located in the corridor and the noise generated is amplified in the corridor! Good point for the hotel is that you have Wifi access in your room. Wow! I paid an exorbitant amount to get free wifi, I'd better camp in a Starbucks coffee I'll get the same level of service, without ants and so on... I don't recommend this hotel! it's really a crappy one! and above all, the hotel night rate are really high! it doesn't worth the price they ask! Definitely! If you're not going to be in your room often, this would be the perfect place for you. PROS: - very close to Waikiki beach, probably a block or two away - great place for walking around too. The location is great! - The lobby is beautiful. It's fully open, so you feel the nice hawaiian breeze - The bathroom in our room was a good size - We did have […] a view of Diamond Head CONS: - The rooms on the other hand, are small. I didn't realize how small the rooms were, so I was taken aback a bit. rooms are a bit older too. We had requested 2 beds, not realizing that they were TWIN beds. When we requested to have at least one double bed, gave us some resistance because we wanted a bed that you can fit 2 people to sleep on. Otherwise, we didn't really speak with most of the staff. It's their "moderate" room. There is not much counter space at all, so if you have big bags, might be best to upgrade. The walking space is literally a perimeter around the bed. Stayed for 3 nights at Queen Kap hotel. It was a nice stay. The location is great! It's near the best beach in Waikiki. I wouldn't recommend staying below the 3rd floor, it's a bit noisy outside...but the Diamond Head View can't be beat! I'd suggest a city room view and up to a friend. The bathrooms could use some work though...

It was very noisy because there is not real windows (glass blinders)... you can hear all noises coming from the street or the restaurant and the pool just 2 stairs below!! Carpets and wallpaper are old fashions, bathtube is moldy and the room is very small compare to latest standard. What a great location, close enough to the beach and shops to walk very easily and quickly yet far enough to not be disturbed by the noise or people. Staff were fantastic and very helpful, room was very comfortable and spacious, great view of Diamond Head and of Waikiki Beach. Looking forward to staying there again.

Excellent location near Kapiolani Park, Honolulu Zoo, Aquarium and Wikiki Beach. The hotel was clean, the staff was friendly, and we enjoyed a beautuful view from our room. A delicious breakfast buffet was held in an open air room near the pool. Buses were nearby, a tour agency was in the lobby and the hotel was walking distance to shops, beaches, and […] restaurants in Wikiki. We learned to snorkle at the Kapiolani Park beach. The hotel room was small, the furniture was comfortable but the bathroom needed renovation. The open air windows allowed street noise to enter the room and the AC was an older unit. Room was small, but for the price and location you can't beat it. We stayed at a much more expensive place in the middle of the beach and we missed the "Queen". It's next to the zoo, has a great view of Diamond Head and is very close to the beach with a convenient store down the block. We loved it there and would go back. We couldn't get a decent night's sleep. The walls are so thin you could hear conversations, TVs, doors slamming and traffic noise (even from the 15th floor). Bed was uncomfortable, pillows were hard. AC was noisy and not running well.

Shower temp control was not working...when asked for maintenance, never came. Had to ask 3 times to get our room made up... Not really happy with the hotel...don't think we will stay here again.

The staff at the hotel was rude. Furthermore attempts to contact the manager were unsuccessful. Left my contact information and my call was never returned. Would not stay there again.

It's dumpy and depressing, but so are most hotels in Waikiki. Biggest problem is paper thin walls. I've had hotels in the third-world with less noise and more privacy.

Its a 3 star hotel, basic but extremely clean and they clean your remove and give you fresh towels each day. The only complaint I would have is that there is only wi-fi available on the ground floor and pool area....and I'm sure that's only between specific times as I couldn't always log on. Apart from that the hotel's within walking distance of the […] main strip of Waikiki and you can walk the length of the street it will take you 25 mins to get to the Hilton Village. Overall for the price this was a good place to stay and would recommend it to people who wanted to spend their money on shopping and outings rather than on a hotel! Devamı

I very much enjoyed my stay at the Queen Kapiolani. I was there on my own for business for 5 nights and was given a small room with a wonderful location on a high floor. Though the traffic was sometimes noisy the air conditioner blocked most of it out. The staff were all very nice. I did enjoy the swimming pool also as it was never very crowded and […] I could swim laps. Internet access was included. I like that they did not charge a resort fee as some of the larger chains do, f.ex. Sheraton. For the price I think it's a wonderful choice. Devamı

The Queen Kapiolani Hotel is across thr street from the Zoo and Kapiolani Park. Veryy easy in and out of Waikiki.

This hotel meets the needs of families or couples searching for a relatively inexpensive stay in Honolulu. Our room was a bit worn and relatively small (no desk and no room for a crib) with a very large TV. Cleanliness was satisfactory to very good. Location was ideal and I would stay there again. This is a very nice hotel. The staff and especially the manager were extra special in making our "second honeymoon" very memorable.

although I was impressed with the remodel of the hotel. I was disappointed in the service.The room type I always request was not availible on arrival. I tried several times during my stay for a room change but was always told they had none. The staff was not the friendliest. They had a careless attitude. Very short and non challant. No one would say hello or good morning. They didn't even say thank u whenever we left. The windows were cool. single glass pane shutters. We would wake up at 630 in the morning to hear the banging of the trash dumpster letting you know the trash man was there. Staff very friendly and helpful. Room very comfortable. The liftts elevators interesting as you were often on a magical mystery tour...noy sure what floor you'd end up on. Decor of the corridors leading to room could be updated ,d brightnened up a bit...otherwoise very good and comfoprtable stay...thank you queen kapiolani:-))

I paid for and received a view of Diamond Head from the 16th floor. I have been to Waikiki many times and always had a city, partial ocean, or ocean view. I must say I enjoyed looking out over the green tree tops, green park, and Diamond Head as a very pleasant change. The room was fairly large and recently renovated with a large, flat-screen, HD TV. […] The bathroom was average size but adequate. The pool is on the 3rd floor and also has a nice view of Diamond Head. The open air restaurant and bar is next to the pool. I had a good, but not great, breakfast buffet at the restaurant for $15. One minus is the internet access. No wireless in the rooms, but free wireless in the lobby and pool area. For internet in the room a router had to be obtained for deposit and per day fee. The cafe in the lobby could use some improvement. The cafe latte, etc. is my machine and not worth the price. The morning I went for coffee and to use the internet, the pastries never arrived. I had a pleasant stay at the Queen Kapiolani and would stay again and I dorecommend it for the price, but pay for a view. Devamı

The hotel was nice and clean. The only problem was that the elevators were sooo slow. Over all we had a really nice stay.

If you would like an air conditioned room, do not stay at this location. Our actual room had vintage glass windows that do not close 100%,therefore all of the cool air would blow out! After calling the front desk, the night supervisor 8/28/11 @ 11pm was incredibly rude unhelpful and angry that I complained about the temperature of my room (86 degrees […] at 11pm) He really didn't care about us. Also, the condition of the Hotel was very dirty, one of the three elevators smelt like dirty feet and BBQ sauce. Fabulously close to the beach but tucked away enough so that you are not constantly surrounded by tourists. The only downside is that it is pretty much the last hotel on the shuttle run which is not really that bad/far but you do have glimpses of the beach teasing you the whole way.
