New Otani Kaimana Beach Hotel - Honolulu

Great hotel to be away from the noise and chaos of Waikiki. But, "suite" in the old wing (Room 208 at least) is simply a small bedroom with a kitchenette in the entryway. Suite implies a separate room or at least area, and this one did not have that. Still, a great hotel at a great price.

We love this hotel. The room we were staying in needed updating.

The hotel was great - the location is wonderful slightly out of the way from the main beach area and stores, which I really liked with easy beach access. The only downside was the air-conditioners - the staff would turn them off and they would also turn off on their own while in the room so it would get a bit warm.

We very much enjoyed our stay at the New Otani hotel over the Christmas and New Year's holidays. The hotel is wonderfully situated at the quiet end of Waikiki, on a beautiful beach with an offshore reef and lots of opportunities for snorkeling and swimming. The hotel operates a delightful, highly rated, restaurant, The Hau tree lanai, situated right […] on the beach and under an ancient spreading hau tree where we enjoyed complimentary breakfasts; they are noted for their diverse creation of eggs Benedict. We made much use of the complimentary Wi-Fi and national and international newspapers. There were only two negative sides to our stay: firstly, while we made reservations for breakfast we were requently kept waiting 30 to 45 min. for a table. Okay, it was Christmas, they were very busy and the staff were very pleasant. We complained and it seemed to help. Secondly, while the restaurant bar and lounge areas are all well maintained, the corridors and stairwells to our guestroom showed evidence of heavy usage and were a real eyesore. Had to leave a day early, and had no problem with the hotel and Hotels.com on getting that credited back. Hotel is in great location on a quite beach and next to the park, great for families. Both restaurants are good. Second stay would stay again, good rate.

If you want Waikiki, then you should stay at a hotel in Waikiki. The "New" Otani is not new and the rooms are at least half the size of a regular hotel room. The hotel is on a public beach, so don't expect much privacy either. The best part of this hotel is the price, but they'll charge you $25 a night more for parking so factor that in as well. It's […] a 10-15 minute walk to Waikiki and all the shops there. If you want a nice getaway with lots more privacy, stay at Turtle Bay on the north shore. You'll need a car rental, but you're close to amazing surfing, the Polynesian Cultural Center, and the kids can even enjoy the little water slide into the pool. Devamı

Hotel is located in the area of Diamond Head, 5-10 minutes walk from the busy Waikiki beach which gives you a more quite and relaxing environment. Staff is friendly and room is comfortable. Direct access to beach is a plus.

Best kept secret on Oahu!! Loved the recently remodeled rooms. Small (rooms) but very stylish with its recent upgrades. Can't beat the location. Out of the Waikiki madness and into a more peaceful and quiet setting just east of the Honolulu Aquarium and the historic Natatorium.

I almost do not want to write a positive review because I'd like to keep this little gem of a hotel a secret. It is a quiet setting right on a private beach and a pleasant walk from all the activity at Waikiki beach. Service is great and the restaurant is fantastic. If you want to see the aquarium, the zoo, the park and whatever festival or celebration the park is hosting, look to this hotel. It is fairly quiet and less commercial than the other hotels up the beach, and you can feel a bit isolated. The small unassuming hotel has a certain charm, and the staff is wonderful. It is extremely dated and the "Annex" […] rooms are small. The central stair way for the "Annex" building made you feel like you were not part of the hotel. This hotel is right on a terrific beach. There is a public park next door, so the beach is busy, but is great for swimming. Our room was in the older section, with nothing special about it, overlooking the park. park was extremely busy and crowded on Sunday when we Arrived, so the balcony was definitely exposed to the party going on outside. Not very […] private. I'm sure the rooms facing the beach are nicer. I was very disappointed with the fact that they have no wireless internet available, not even in the hotel lobby, as this is a MUST for business travelers! For the first time, decided to travel with my iPad, not my laptop, and I was unable to connect with the old fashioned wire service, available for a fee only in my room. Great location Howe er. This hotel is a small boutique property way past Waikiki, down by Diamondhead. It was a mile walk to restuarants and nightlife but WELL WORTH it in exchange for quieter property and much less crowded beach. Buses were nearby if you don't want to walk but the evening strolls contributed to the charm. There was also a small store on the premises for forgotten […] items and snacks. The staff was outstanding and seemed to know what I wanted better than I did. I looked at several different rooms, some posh and others small & simple but comfortable. If you're coming in from HNL DONT take the shuttle as this is the last stop of all hotels and it will take over an hour to get there. Instead I asked other people on my plane to split a cab & it only took 20 minutes even with dropping them off first. Devamı

No elevator to our section of rooms. Had to drag luggage up 3 flights of stairs. Room was in need of re-painting. Restaurant had excellent beach view and good food. Valet-only parking will cost and extra $20/day.

I actually hesitate to tell others how great this place is IF you don't seek the party atmosphere of Waikiki, but still want to be close to everything. Rooms right over the beach, gracious and quiet service [orchids on the pillows at turn-down, each night], reasonable prices, fabulous views of sunsets, easy exit to main sights on the island. A lovely stay. Very pleasant hotel with elegant restaurant. Comfortable room, on a perfect small beach with crystal-clear water. Within walking distance of the "strip" at Waikiki, but at the quiet end of Kapiolani park. When in Honolulu, I'd stay at no other hotel.

I stayed in one of the "cheap" rooms at the New Otani. The room was small, similar to a European or New York hotel with two twin beds. It was clean and comfortable, but a bit dated. Others that I talked to that were in oceanfront rooms said that they were very nice and updated. The staff were great and very accomodating. The location is the most important […] thing. It is right on the beach, not across the street. It is surrounded by a park, not hundreds of stores like all of the other Waikiki hotels. It is a 10 minute walk from the hubbub if that is what you want. Quiet and comfortable are the key words. Beach is nice, park is nice, staff was great. If you want to be on the beach, near Waikiki but not in the heart of it, the new Otani is the hotel for you.

Great hotel, quite location, off the noisy Waikiki path. Staff was helpful, room was above average. Restaurant seemed overpriced, I didn't eat there.

We love Otani. We found it on our last visit to Honolulu when we were staying at a condo near waikiki beach. We then knew the Otani would be the place to stay should we return. Location: It is several blocks, walking distance, from Waikiki and the action. We do not like being where the action is most of the time, so Otani location is wonderful for […] us. Hotel Rooms: We stayed in a Jr. Suite surrounded by a balcony and views of Diamond Head, Waikiki and the ocean. Just fabulous. The room was comfortable with king bed, sofa, desk chairs. I had read complaints by others that the hotel was below their standards. It is not perfect. It lacks inishing touches around the walls ie molding, some structural stuff not painted over, nicks, etc, And though nicely decorated, it isn't lavish with marble sinks. The bathrooms are small and utilitarian. None of that is important to us in the scheme of things. . Beach and Snorkeling: The beach in front of the hotel is uncrowded and serene. There is a reef not far out so that people were snorkeling close in as well as a little further out. I wish I had used fins for then I could have reached the reef easily where there were reportedly large fish, colorful fish, and turtles. I did find myself in a large school of sardines. Thousands! We enjoyed the restaurant which is outdoors by the beach. The food was very good, the service excellent. There were a couple small wedding parties from Japan at the hotel. It was fun to watch the beach front weddings and how the people were enjoying their Hawaiian experience. A nice added touch to the visit was the cocktail party with appetizers that the general manager had one afternoon for the hotel guests. We hope to return to Honolulu soon. Hated it! Too far from Waikiki to escape the bad service. Next time I'll book further in advance to get the Sheraton again. As aStarwood Platinum member I am used to service and smiles, not every request become a chore for the staff.

I was looking for a place to stay on Oahu because the hotel I usually stay at was booked. I had never stayed at the New Otani Kaimana Beach Hotel and thought it looked like a nice place to stay. I called the hotel to make sure that the room I wanted to reserve was the same room in te picture and they assured me that it was so I booked this room. Upon […] my arrival I was put in a travel lodge type room on the side of the hotel tower instead of the newly remodeled room that I had called about. I went to the front desk to complain about the room and they didn't care to here about the room that they had assigned me. They said that they had nothing else for me. The next morning we went to the restaurant for breakfast and our ordered eggs with rice and chicken. We got the most nasty plate of food I had ever seen. We expalined to the waitress that all we wanted was what we ordered off their menu she took the plate and returned with the same plate of food with a scrambled egg on top and said that she had fixed our order. We didn't eat the meal and had to pay for it anyways about $16.00. While we were there at the hotel we saw that the Japaneese were treated like royality and the rest of us like we were nothing. The New Otani a very dated hotel with a barely acceptable service. Rooms were not only old fashioned and cheap but it wasn't very clean. When we arrived the power was out, so many of the features like TV and hot water were not available. We were hoping the restaurant Hau Tree would be their saving grace but the service was TERRIBLE. We went there in […] the morning and they sat us literally UNDER a tree. The branch was only maybe a foot and a half off the table. The wait staff was hardly even existent and when they were around they were rushing us through our order. I could not even explain exactly how I wanted my eggs cooked cause the waiter wouldn't shut up. Food was mediocre at best, except for the Gaspachio (sp.) that tasted like watery salsa off the grocery store shelf. In closing until they do some major repairs and work on there customer service I will not return to this place. It's a shame to because the location is far enough removed from Waikiki that it is actually peaceful and some of the views are AMAZING. If you are looking for a Hotel in this price range there are MUCH better options on Kuhio street at least for now. Devamı

Our only disappointment with the New Otani Kiamana Beach Hotel was the property was showing it's age. That fact was overshadowed though by all the other superb factors. It starts with location. Perfectly nestled on San Souci beach away from the hustle and bustle of Waikiki. Your right on the beach and only a short walk from Waikiki. Queen Kapiolani […] Park adds to the attractiveness around the hotel. The entire staff was always professional, polite and eager to ensure our stay was incredible. We have read other reviews that carped about the price of the restaraunt on site. We felt the price was comparable to any other fine dining establishment in the area. All in all, we felt the hotel was a good price for an outstanding location and service. Would definitely stay again! Devamı

Elegant and charming with a fabulous location!

Is where all action is in Honolulu !!!

Charged for parking $18.00, beach chairs, and internet, but staff was extremely nice and helpful. Morning free coffee service not great - starts at 6:30 and served in tiny styrofoam cups. The beach was great - fresh water shower helped at the end of the day.

This is a fantastic bargain for a clean boutique hotel. Simple parking and perfect location make it my favorite choice now.

This is a great little hotel that maintains the old Hawaiian style that is 10 minutes walk from Waikiki and the maddening crowds. Great service; great rooms (ours was Deluxe Ocean View looking straight down the beach to the city); fabulous restaurants (esp. the Hua Tree for breakfast). It is a quiet peaceful place where one could really relax. This hotel's old world charm works at showing visitors what old stlye Hawaii still can be. Small in size it caters to visitors by sharing Waikiki as the early Hawaiian Royalty used to enjoy. Far from the concrete jungle of Waikiki, it is on the slopes of Diamond Head across from the large Kapiolani Park. The views are all great and the beach is the […] BEST. Our room was an updated 1970's motel room on the 3rd floor with no elevator. Bell hops seemed to work the tower but not the low risewhere we were. Activity desk very helpful and very good food and service in both restaurants. A mixed bag.

The rooms are very tired. A fresh coat of paint on the wooden trim would certainly revitalize the area. No coffee pot in the room and no small refrigerator were definite drawbacks. Parking is a big problem anywhere on Waikiki; however, to charge $18.00 a day and then one feels obligated to pay at least a fee to the person who retreives your car sometimes […] numerous times a day is another reason I would not recommend this Hotel. Their claim to fame is the Hau Tree Restaurant, good food and good service. Expensive but in line with all of the Hotels on Waikiki. Devamı

Not a bad location, actually great, quiet and far away from the crowds which was good. But for the price you pay it leaves a lot for desire.
